Abstract

This research aims to find out the learning system that students want after the COVID-19 pandemic, and the reason they chose the learning system. This study uses various survey methods. The subject of this study was all 11th grade students at SMA Negeri 2 Negara. This study uses google form questionnaires as research instruments. The research instrument consists of 11 indicators divided into 48 statements. The data obtained from the questionnaire are the student's response, which then the number of responses is summed and divided to find the average score of the student's response for each learning system. Scores from each learning system (virtual/online, classroom/face-to-face, and blended) are compared. The results of the study showed that students in SMA Negeri 2 Negara prefer to learn with a face-to-face learning system compared to blended learning systems and online / virtual learning systems. The reason students in SMA Negeri 2 Negara prefer face to face learning is because they can understand the material better through direct interaction with teachers and students.

Abstract

Studies indicated that EFL students were often struggling in speaking due to their fear of making mistake. This becomes a problem as speaking is an essential skill needed to be able to communicate in the target language and become successful learners. This study was conducted with the aim of investigating the effect of self-assessment on EFL students’ speaking performance.  It used library research with a method of document analysis by analyzing previous related studies and theories. The results indicated that self-assessment has positive effect on students’ speaking performance as it involves students in the process of evaluating their learning process, product or performance, and progress. The effects include identification of strengths and weaknesses, improvement of self-efficacy, and improvement of speaking performance. However, self-assessment needs to be implemented well by considering the assessment criteria and practices in order to achieve these positive effects.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to observe two processes: 1) developing online reading tasks; and 2) integrating those tasks into online learning platforms. This research employs a descriptive qualitative design. The subject of this study was English teacher at SMAS Laboratorium Undiksha Singaraja. The data was gathered through observation and an interview guide. The data collection procedure began with an online observation and an interview. The data were analyzed according to Miles and Huberman's (2002) framework of analysis, which includes data collection, data reduction, data visualization, and conclusion drawing. The study's findings indicated that 1) activities were used to develop reading tasks using online learning platforms; 2) teacher used five platforms to develop online reading tasks, including WhatsApp, Google Classroom, Youtube, Kahoot, and Quizizz; and 3) the use of online platforms to develop tasks motivates students to learn, increases students' interest in learning, and assists students in learning technology. The implication of this research is that utilizing online platforms to develop tasks benefits students' ability to learn technology

Abstract

The technology-based learning media is one of the essential media in the learning nowadays. Powtoon application is one of them that can apply by the teacher in conveying the material. Powtoon is an application where the creator can make the video look good, fun and attractive. On the other hand, it also more effective to operate. Powtoon can have a tremendous influence on the student's motivation in learning and help teachers in delivering the material in the classroom. Powtoon can be used on all levels of education, especially at the elementary school level, because Powtoon can attract students' attention and motivate them at the same time. This study aims to identify and share theoretical concepts and pedagogical practices of using Powtoon as the media for learning English at the elementary school level. This study used library research methods in obtaining the information which related to the utilization of Powtoon application on students and teacher’s self-development in elementary schools.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on education where regulations in schools are increasingly being tightened to prevent the spread of the virus. This causes meeting access to be limited and even full of rules that must be obeyed. This condition certainly affects the data collection process in making a thesis, especially for students who research school. This study aims to find out the difficulties faced by 7th-semester students in writing a thesis during a pandemic. The approach used is qualitative research with in-depth interview techniques in data collection. The data were then analyzed descriptively from the results of the interviews. The results showed that the difficulties faced by students were the difficulty of access and permission to enter schools during the pandemic, the passive participation of research subjects, and the unequal distribution of information. From the result, it can be concluded that those three factors are the difficulties faced by students in writing a thesis during the COVID-19 pandemic. The researcher suggests conducting research on a larger scale and wider scope to the future researcher. This research is useful in redefining policies and actions that can be taken in overcoming the factors that make it difficult for students to research so that all aspects of education can work together.

Abstract

In acquiring a language, it should be considered that internal and external motivation hold the crucial place as the basic thing to support young learners’ willingness and attract them to have some interested in learning new language, such as learning English. This research has an aim to investigate the implementation of total physical response (TPR) in increasing students’ motivation in learning vocabularies by observing the second graders of SD Negeri 2 Kayuputih Melaka, Bali. TPR is a good method to teach new language for young learners. TPR is used to see how it affects students’ motivation to learn more English vocabularies. This study designed in form of qualitative research. The method being used to analyze the data belongs to descriptive qualitative. The result of this research indicates that the use of TPR is successfully increase students’ motivation to participate more in learning vocabularies. The students showed a significant knowledge of new vocabularies that had been learnt during the meetings shown by the chart being explained that shown the increment of students’ participation and new vocabularies achievement. The conclusion of this study is TPR positively works in increasing students’ participation in learning vocabularies for second graders at SD 2 Kayuputih Melaka.

Abstract

Students bring their own unique characteristics during the learning process in the class. They have different ways of following the learning process itself. This way can be called preference or style. They will use the style that matches and help them in comprehending the learning material during the learning process. There is known that students' learning styles are divided into many kinds according to some experts. Therefore, this study aimed at investigating the prominent styles of EFL students using VARK Model by Neil Fleming. To gather the data, the study used a descriptive study with a survey. The participant in this study come from 20 English Language Education of Ganesha University students from the 7th semester. This study revealed that the prominent of students' learning preferences came from Multimodal style which were the combination between reading/write (R) and kinestheticstyle learners. Students who are learning with a read/write style like to demand information in the form of words or text. They like to read and taking notes while learning. Some visual-real aids like graphs, diagrams, etc., helped them a lot while learning. Meanwhile, for students with kinesthetic learning style, they tend to have a hands-on interaction for it is essential to them. The greatest ways for kinesthetic learners to learn is they like to directly do a physical touch while learning and like doing some authentic activity like practical exercises, trial and error activities, and solving some case studies.

Abstract

TPACK become a euphoria in Indonesia. The aim of this study was to investigate the pre-service teachers’ perceptions and understanding of technological pedagogical content and knowledge during their microteaching class in EFL context. This study was framed within the descriptive qualitative design. The study employed a TPACK questionnaire and an interview guide. The study was distributed to 100 pre-service English teachers at English Language Education. The data were collected through online survey and were analyzed using descriptive analysis. The result shows pre-service teachers have very positive perceptions towards TPACK. It was found that the pre-service teachers also already have a good knowledge in implementing TPACK. However, there are some aspects, like class room management that need to be improved.

Abstract

The general objective of this research is to describe and analyze the steps in implementing scaffolding technique in reading comprehension and the students reading comprehension implemented through the scaffolding technique in seventh grade student in SMP Negeri 4 Busungbiu in the 2021/2022 academic year. This research is classroom action research. The research subjects were 31 seventh grade students. The researcher used two methods, namely quantitative (student ability in reading comprehension) and qualitative data (data on the implementation of reading comprehension sessions through scaffolding technique and the teachers’ difficulties in implementing reading comprehension sessions through scaffolding technique). The results show that: (1) Scaffolding teaching techniques can improve students' reading comprehension in descriptive and procedure texts, namely: ((a) finding general themes b) finding specific information contained in the text, 3) being able to know the appropriate pronouns in the text (d) students being able to understand the meaning of words in the text. Scaffolding teaching techniques can improve classroom situations, in terms of (a) increasing student participation; (b) creating a more interesting teaching atmosphere (c) increasing students' attention to the lesson; (d) increasing the class of cooperation. From the results of this study, it can be concluded that this technique of scaffolding teaching is effectively used to improve students' reading comprehension.

Abstract

This current study aimed at describing the increase of students’ cognitive in Japanese Language learning in XI grade at SMK Medical Vidya Usadha using Hot Potates as a learning media. As a Quasi Experiment study, the design of this research was Nonequivalent Control Group. By involving students in XII grade as the control group and XI grade as the experiment group, the data were collected using test method, in which the data were analyzed quantitatively. The result of this research revealed the increase of students’ cognitive during the Japanese language learning in XI grade at SMK Medical Vidya Usadha. This result was confirmed and proven by the calculation of normalized gain score data. The Competence of Japanese Language showed the average score of experiment class group was more than the average score of control class group. It means that the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected.
