Abstract

This study aims to obtain information about the succession levels of natural vegetation on ex – community gold mining in Monterado. The method of this research was survey method through vegetation analysis by double plot size 20 m x 20 m. Placement of plots dileberately based on the tailing period of ex – community gold mining which were : < 1 year, 2-3 years, 5-7 years, and > 10 years. The result showed that kinds of shrub found in all age level of ex – community gold mining area. The type of woody plants at the seedling found in all period of ex – community gold mining area, whereas sapling, pole and tree only found in ex – community gold mining at age level > 10 years. Based on the vegetation analysis, it showed that Ischaemum rugosum and Melastoma malabathricum L. dominanted at all age level of ex – community gold mining. Seedling in the ex – community gold mining at all age level were dominanted by Dillenia suffruticus. The index of species diversity showed that it was still low on ex – community gold mining in Monterado.Until the age of tailing > 10 years, succession was still in the level of competition, so it was concluded to be slow. To accelerate succession, revegetation, land restoration, and people awareness should be undertaken.Keyword : Gold mining, Monterado Sub district, Succession.

Abstract

At recent year, termite control strategies is still using of synthetic termiticide which is applied either by soil treatment, wood preservation or impregnation of the thermiside into the target. This control technique is very effective and beable to protect buildings and agricultural crops from termite attack, on the other hand, synthetic termite can pollute the environment and potentially poison to human. Therefore, it is necessary to develop termite control technology using baiting system, which is made from natural material as environmentally friendly. Eucalyptus leaves are potentially used as attractants for termite control by bait method. The test was conducted in two methods: no-choice test and two-choice test, using 5 treatment composition, eucalyptus leaves: official waste paper, 80%: 20%, 60%: 40, 40% : 60%, 80% : 20%, and 0% : 100% as control. The results showed that the mixing of eucalyptus leaf (Melaleuca leucadendra) and official waste paper at composition of 60%: 40% was effective as bioatractant to termites (Coptotermes sp). Keywords: bio-attractants, eucalyptus leaves, official waste paper, subterranean (Coptotermes sp).

Abstract

Diversity Of Meranti Species (Shorea spp.) In The IUPHHK-HTI Area PT. Bhatara Alam Lestari Mempawah Regency West Kalimantan. Meranti is a commercial tree species, meranti timber market is not limited only to domestic market but also international market, although meranti has become important commodity of forest product, but until now its production still relies on natural forest. The purpose of this research is to know the diversity of meranti species. The object of the study was the type of meranti (Shorea spp.) and the type of vegetation found in the observation plot. This research was conducted at IUPHHK-HTI area of PT. Bhatara Alam Lestari. Determination of plot and line of meranti species diversity in the field was using mixed method. The results showed that there are 4 types of meranti namely meranti batu, meranti bunga, meranti seraya and meranti sibo. The dominance index (C) at the growth rate of seedlings, saplings and trees has a low average value of less than 0.5, so it can be said that the spread of vegetation species is not concentrated in one particular species but spreads in all species. Result of Species Diversity (H) Compiler shows more than 1 (H 1 <H <3) value for all levels of vegetation growth means that species diversity (H) less than 1 (one) means species diversity in low or non-diverse transects. Result of Abundance (e) vegetation in general that Abundance of all growth rates of seedlings, saplings, poles and trees show the value (e) less than 1 means that all species are unequal abundance at each growth rate within a forest area. Keywords: Abundance, Diversity, Meranti.

Tha’s factor is the Position of the height of the tree trunk that conret of 3 sub factors namely the base of the stem, the middle of the stem and the top of the stem. Drying of Temperature consist of 3 sub factors is 550C, 700C and 850C. The average result of the dimension changiry on the highest radial is in the middle of the stem with the drying temperature 850C is 2.0740% and the lowest is the base of the stem with drying temperature of 700C is 1.0667%. While the highest tangential of dimension is in the base of the stem with drying temperature 550C is 2.9598% and the lowest is in the position of stem with drying temperature 550C is 1.1163%. Based on the research the position of the height stem and the drying temperature is having the real effect, on the dimension of the wood with the height of the stem. However the high of drying temperature is not inflounce no the value of depreciation of ratio. The best Dimension Stability is on the top of the stem, in the drying temperature 550C, with the ratio’s result tangensial depriciation 0,87. While in the dry condition, the lowest ratio’n is in the middle of the stem in 700C temperature is 0.62. Generally the result shows dimensional of stability with the ration tangenial of  depreciation is sufficient after drying wood. Keywords : Dimensional Stability, Drying Temperature, Height Position of the stem
