Abstract

Verb is considered as the central element in a linguistic construction, including in English. Chafe (1970:96) stated that verb determines the arguments. It is the semantic aspect of the verb that selects the arguments in the construction. However, a single verb can possibly have different semantic aspect in different condition. It will, then, influence the valence of the verb and definitely the argument of the verb. This change is so-called alternation. This also happens in English. One of the examples is the change of lexical verb into linking verb. Therefore, this paper attempts to describe the semantic change of lexical verb into linking verb.

Abstract

The main discussion of this article is related to the attachment of enclitic pronoun. The attachment of enclitic pronoun is not only limited to word, but also phrase.  Attachment enklitik on noun consist of  monomorphemic noun, polimorphemic noun and compound noun type.  Attachment enclitic on verb consists of monomorphemic verb, verb of me-N verb of beR-, and verb of di-. Attachment enclitic may also occur in other pronouns. In addition personal pronoun, pronouns can be as demonstrative pronoun and interogative pronoun. However, clitik pronoun has some limitation in its attachment. Thus, this paper aims at describing these problems.

Abstract

Impersonal construction can be viewed from two sides. First side is viewed from the sentence that do not have a subject or a subject in the form of words that do not show a particular referent or its existence tends formality. Second  is viewed from the impersonal construction which may include derivative words from sentences which have a clear subject. Based on the above, this study tries to discuss impersonal constructions in English, Spanish, and Indonesian or analyze a single sentence in Spanish, English, and Indonesian. The results showed that there are twokinds of impersonal constructions, namely dummy and empty subject. Impersonal construction has a single referent in Spanish can emerge a sentence one word, sentence subject can occupy a position of pre - verbal and post - verbal , and can conjugate with verbs according to gender , number and persona, while in English there is a rapprochement between the subject of the sentence and verbs or agreement based on the number. Copula in Spanish there are two items, namely ser and estar. In English ser and estar are represented by to be. English and Indonesian have similarity, which is the subject of the sentence is always pre - verbal position . Spanish, Indonesian, and English based on verbs of nature have similarity that are each laguages emerge impersonal construction.

Abstract

Conjunction have function to connect two or more language elements. Conjunction as one of means to achieve cohesiveness a discourse, including novel as a discourse prose. As do in the novel Sali: Kisah Seorang Wanita Suku Dani, the author uses conjunctions to connect the word with the word, phrase by phrase, clause by clause, and sentence by sentence so as to create a cohesive meaning. Continuum meaning that contained in the novel Sali: Kisah Seorang Wanita Suku Dani, and its conjunction as a causal relation with conjunctions sebab, karena, and maka; relation of conflict with conjunctions tetapi and namun; relation of exceptions or ekseptif with conjunction kecuali; relation of konsesif with conjunction meskipun; relation of purpose with conjunction supaya; relation of addition or additive with conjunctions dan, juga, and serta; relation of choice or alternative with conjunction atau; relation of sequence or sekuensial with conjunction kemudian; relation of time with conjunction setelah; relation of terms with conjunction apabila, and relation of manner in conjunction dengan.

Abstract

This research focuses to analize and to give the values of Papua folklore “Cenderawasih: Unhappy birds” (Cenderawasih Burung yang Tidak Berbahagia) as  the learning matter that have character and making smart. The result of this research is to show that Papua folklore can category in the concrete operational of kids story and the learning matter on text books. Literary appreciate, especially Papua folklore were understook for choosing the kids literature according to theirself. Its steps consist of their intelectually, morality,emosionally and personality, and language. Added it, literary appreciate as the part of literature attend to intrinsic aspect such as plot, characterized, theme, and moral messages.

Abstract

The classifier word is a word that located behind numeralized and together with the word formed a phrase that called numbers phrase, which possible located in front of the nominal word. The purpose of this study is to describe the form and classification of lassifier words in language of Kamaru. This study uses descriptive method with three stages, namely providing data, data analysis, and presentation of the results of the data analysis. Data analysis conducted after the data netted classified. Applied analysis used apportion method. The result of this study is a form and classification of classifier words in the language of Kamaru, namely (1) the  classifier word for animals, (2) the classifier  words for objects, and (3) the classifier word for humans. Each further divided into common classifier words and special classifier.

Abstract

Novel is the prose that written based on social context as human mimetic. Indonesian novel are the prose was written by using Indonesian language. This research discuss about Indonesian novel that tell about Papua in 2000-2012. That novel can be told about its ethnics, its people, its cultures, or its nature. This research uses descriptive methods and collecting data by library research.  They are seven Indonesian novel has written in 2000-2012. Those novels told about Papuan. Those novels are: Namaku Teweraut by Ani Sekarningsih (2000); Kapak by Dewi Linggasari (2005); Sali: Kisah Seorang Wanita Suku Dani by Dewi Linggasari (2007); Mawar Hitam Tanpa Akar by Aprila R.A. Wayar (2009); Tanah Tabu by Anindita S. Thayf  (2009); Elang by Kirana Kejora (2009); and Istana Pasir by Dewi Linggasari (2010).

Abstract

This study is observation result of writer on Javanese society that lives in Jayapura’s City and Regency of Jayapura, Papua.Defending of Javanese language as mother tongue at Papuan is not despite existence programs resettlement. Transmigran’s society that lives at resettlement region while in daily communication still using  Javanese language. Javanese society who are not transmigran and living at urban have not more used Javanese in daily conversation. But, on special chances, e.g. on arisan’s event society, they still to speak javanese. Even so, its javanese has mingled with Indonesian so as they converse frequent happening code switching and code mingling.

Abstract

Tulisan ini akan membahas dua isu yang menjadi topik perdebatan di antara para ahli dalam Pengajaran Bahasa Inggris bagi Penutur Bahasa Lain-Teaching English to the Other Speakers of Languages (TESOL), yaitu apakah teknologi komputer dapat membantu pengajaran bahasa Inggris pada konteks Pengajaran Bahasa Inggris sebagai Bahasa Asing- English as Foreign Language (EFL) dan apakah bentuk-bentuk bahasa Inggris atau penggunaan bahasa Inggris yang harus diajarkan dalam konteks pengajaran EFL.Dalam isu pertama, tulisan ini membahas beberapa pendapat para ahli TESOL/EFL tentang manfaat dan kendala yang dihadapi dalam penerapan bantuan teknologi komputer dalam konteks TESOL/EFL. Selain itu, tulisan ini membahas juga kendala-kendala yang dihadapi di beberapa konteks pengajaran EFL di Papua. Dalam isu kedua, tulisan ini membahas beberapa pendapat para ahli TESOL/EFL tentang kendala-kendala yang dihadapi dalam mengajarkan bentuk bahasa dan manfaat mengajarkan penggunaan bahasa dari bentuk bahasa dalam konteks pengajaran TESOL/EFL.Dengan mempertimbangkan manfaat dan kendala-kendala yang akan dihadapi dalam penerapan bantuan teknologi komputer dalam pengajaran bahasa Inggris pada konteks pengajaran TESOL/EFL, dapat disimpulkan bahwa bantuan ini dapat diterapkan pada konteks pengajaran mata kuliah English skills yang wajib diambil oleh para mahasiswa Fakultas Sastra, UNIPA, Manokwari. Selanjutnya, dengan mempertimbangkan manfaat dari kemampuan pragmatik bagi siswa, dapat disimpulkan bahwa para pengajar bahasa Inggris pada konteks pengajaran TESOL/EFL di Papua seharusnya tidak saja memfokuskan pengajarannya dalam mengembangkan kemampuan siswa pada bentuk bahasa Inggris, tetapi juga pada kemampuan pragmatik mereka. Dipercaya bahwa kemampuan pragmatik diajarkan untuk mengembangkan pemahaman pragmatik siswa dalam berbagai kesadaran mental dengan cara latihan yang kreatif. Dengan mempunyai kesadaran ini, siswa dapat secara tepat menanggapi istilah-istilah atau bahasa yang digunakan dalam berbagai situasi.

Abstract

Tulisan ini membahas struktur dan dampak kebahasaan dalam morfosintaksis bahasa  Melayu Papua. Melayu Papua merupakan salah satu dialek bahasa Melayu yang digunakan di wilayah paling timur Indonesia, yaitu di Provinsi Papua dan Provinsi Papua Barat. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode kualitatif. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan cara merekam dan mencatat data kosakata maupun kalimat. Kemudian analisis dilakukan dengan menyusun data berdasarkan hierarkinya. Hasil penelitian ini adalah ditemukannya struktur dan dampak kebahasaan dalam morfosintaksis bahasa Melayu Papua. Struktur tersebut dapat terlihat pada kata-kata turunannya, pemilihan kata depan, dan kata ganti.
