Abstract

Research involving thermal characteristics of mixture of biodiesel from kapok (ceibapentandra) and biosolar has been conducted. Biosolar and biodiesel mixed with 5 different composition:B0 (100% biodiesel), B10 (10% biodiesel), B20, B30, and B100 (100% biodiesel). Laboratory experimentwas conducted to obtain several fuel characteristics: heating value, flash point, density, and viscosity.Biosolar is evaporated at a temperature of 120°C and then the steam is flowed to a bunsen burner with afixed discharge (2 ml/minute) and mixed with air in the equivalent ratio variation (φ) 0.8; 1; and 1,2 andturned on. The resulting flame was recorded with the camera and an analysis of the flame was carriedout. Thermal characteristics of this biodiesel have properties in accordance with biosolar standards ofPT Pertamina Indonesia. The heating value of biosolar is 10,602 cal/gram and biodiesel is 8,641cal/gram, and the mixture has heating value among them. As for the characteristics of the flame with highheat values, the core of the flame is covered in blue which shows the highest heat value.

Abstract

Abstract: Solar energy, the renewable energy is only available at certain hour. So it is essential to develop efficient, economical solar thermal energy storage. Thermal energy storage (TES) systems provide several alternatives for efficient energy use and conservation. Phase change materials (PCMs) for TES are materials supplying thermal regulation at particular phase change temperatures by absorbing and emitting the heat of the medium. TES in general and PCMs in particular, absorb energy during the heating process as phase change takes place and release energy to the environment in the phase change range during a reverse cooling process. PCMs possesses the ability of latent thermal energy change their state with a certain temperature. Paraffin is the PCM used in this research. Paraffin is being added to a solar water heater to store thermal energy at daylight and supply the stored energy to the heat pipe when the sundown. From this research, it is found that the solar water heater with paraffin need longer heating time than the conventional solar water heater but it could provide steadier heating performance and warm water even when the sun was down.

Abstract

Composite is a combination of two or more materials that have different mechanical propertiesand characteristics. One of the reinforcement materials or reinforcement that is widely used is naturalmaterials. One of Indonesia's natural materials and a very large source of bamboo is widely used inbuilding construction as an alternative to wood because it has high flexibility and strength. To balancethe strength of bamboo with high tensile strength while low flexural strength, a solution is needed tomaximize the strength of bamboo by combining it with a bamboo composite system. In this study, bamboothat has been processed into woven sheets manually with plain weave type is then given a certain amountof epoxy resin and then a Tensile Strength Test is carried out using ASTM D3039 / D3039M and aflexural test using ASTM D7264 / 7264M to obtain maximum composite and flexural strength. After thetest was carried out, it was continued by observing the microstructure of the specimen using SEM(Scanning Electron Microscope). The results showed the tensile test value with a value of 50 Mpacompared to the ABS tensile strength value of 53 Mpa, the Modulus of Elasticity with a value of 0.38 GPacompared to the ABS modulus of elasticity of 0.41 Gpa. The results of the flexural test obtained flexuralstrength with a value of 47.06 Mpa compared to the value of ABS flexural strength of 49.6 Mpa, flexuralmodulus with a value of 0.52 Gpa compared to the value of ABS flexural modulus of 0.55 Gpa.

Abstract

Abstract: Fused Deposition Modelling (FDM) is a technology additive manufacture for modelling, prototyping, and production. This technology is one of the techniques used for 3D printers. Our focus is on studying, design machines fused deposition with 3D modeling and simulation with autodesk inventor and other design tools. Design is done by simulating the strength of the construction and then determine the components needed. We are making fused deposition modeling is intended as a prototype in order to understand how it works and how to innovate in the development of fused deposition modeling. The results of the design in the form of a fused depositon modeling that is able to create physical models

Abstract

Abstract: Four directions radial chainsaw is a chainsaw that have four cutting tools with link as it’s power continuer and using roller chain transmission. This machine is designed to improve the efficiency of cutting time. Especially in the furniture industry. Still, the stacking of wood cutting work can reduce the production capabilities. This essay will discussed about the link and transmission working system that is used in the machine. The method used in this design is VDI 2221. The order of this design is starting from the calculation of the force that required to cut the wood, the force that contains in the link, and the calculation of motor horsepower that is required. The wood used is falcate which is a four strong class

Abstract: The system used in this day and age has made progress in its operations. In industry itself many use automated systems that only require a small operator to run a tool because it saves time, and safety is guaranteed. In this time the tool discussed Handling Station Rotary pneumatic system uses motion to move this tool. So that the tool can be moved according to plan also required the "brains" to run this tool. Where the brain is a Program Logic Controller (PLC) to save a program that has been created in order to move the tool. Program created in this thesis using Sequential Function Chart (SFC) using Zelio Soft application. For components that are needed in this form of censorship tool as a reader, selonoid as air regulator to move from such a device.

Abstract

Abstract: Biogas purification process aims to reduce biogas impurities such as carbon dioxide (CO2) and hydrogen sulfide (H2S) to obtain higher methane (CH4) concentration. Adsorption is one method for purifying biogas using solids. The research used 3 adsorbent materials such as natural zeolite mordenite, synthetic zeolite 3A and Fe2O3. To maximize the performance of natural zeolite as adsorbent, it is necessary to activate with NaOH solution which NaOH concentration used is 0%, 5%, and 15% NaOH and then they were activated by physical activation under heating treatment at 250oC for 4 hours. The best biogas purification result with natural zeolite activation mode was obtained at activation of 5% NaOH and followed by 15% and 0% NaOH. This is because activation using NaOH with 1-2N concentration (molarity) led to a macro pore size of the zeolite, more uniform, and the pores on the micro pore can be cleaned. After obtaining the best quality of natural zeolite, a study on the adsorbent ratio of adsorbent tubes obtained from the best results in Fe2O3, synthetic zeolite and natural zeolite (1: 1: 2) was observed because the ability of natural zeolite adsorption is better than of synthetic zeolite and Fe2O3. Therefore, the more natural zeolite in the adsorbent tube the better the refining result.

Abstract

Abstract: Pollution levels over time has been increased. One of the causes of the pollution are Internal combustion engine vehicle. In Indonesia, the air pollution produced by motor vehicles approximately 55 micrograms per cubic meter CO2. One of the solution to overcome the pollution problem is to create environmentally friendly vehicles using electric motor. In this paper will discuss about the design of a concept of environmentally friendly personal vehicle, which is used 3 wheel and can carry a single passenger. The process is design using the CAD software in three dimensional design, then static analysis was conducted using FEA to produce the maximum stress and the critical location due to the load from the design of the vehicle.

Abstract

Abstract: Main frame welding at the front automatic motorcycle of PT. XXX is the stage of (trial production). The welding machine is Panasonic TM-1400G3 MIG automatic welding machine with 75% Argon and 25% Ar-CO2. Main frame material low carbon steel STAM 390G. To obtain the welding results in accordance with the standards specified by the client, weld testing parameters are varied for each test, which are ampere and voltage. The constant welding parameters in this research are travel speed, gas flow, welding direction, tip distance to workpiece, torch angle and welding angle. All test results are inspected visually and dimensionally, if passed, it will be followed by inspection of macro structure analysis. The results measured on the macro structure analysis ar : penetration (a1), penetration (a2), bead welding, throuth, leg length and crown with standard measurement values determined by the client PT.XXX. The welding results (OK) in the macro structure analysis measurement are defined as reference parameters for mass production. The best parameters for main frame welding are vertical position down (3G) with 170 Ampere current and 20 Volt voltages, and for horizontal position (2G) with 180 ampere current parameters and 17 Volt voltages.

Abstract

Abstract: Indonesia which is an archipelago country has a lot of harbour for conveying and delivering goods which is stored in container from one island to another island. Containers are very heavy so that required a strong and stable lifting machine, also have a good performance and safety. Semi gantry crane as one of the example of lifting machine is designed using assistance of software for that purpose.
