Abstract

This study aims to determine if the Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) model is effective in teaching class VII students at SMP NU Kaplongan Indramayu about the structure and language of descriptive texts. The researchers chose the CIRC model because it is relevant and helpful in teaching students about descriptive texts. The study was conducted at NU Kaplongan Middle School, with a total of 204 students from 6 classes. The sample for the study included 34 students from class VII E and 34 students from class VII F. The data collected included initial and final tests from both the experimental and control classes. The results of the study are as follows. The t-value value for both research groups is 5.892, while the t-table value is 1.996. Therefore, the t-value is greater than the t-table value, indicating that the alternative hypothesis stating the significant influence of the CIRC learning model on the ability to study descriptive texts is accepted. Additionally, the CIRC learning model brings about significant changes in teaching methods and student learning. It promotes active, creative, effective, and enjoyable learning experiences. It also helps students develop problem-solving skills and encourages teamwork and mutual respect.

Abstract

Reading serves as the foundation for instruction in all aspects of language learning, including using textbooks for language courses, writing, revising, developing vocabulary, acquiring grammar, and utilizing computer-assisted language learning programs. The objectives of this study were to examine: (1) Whether the implementation of the Rehearsal Strategy enhances the reading comprehension skills of second-semester students at Muhammadiyah University of Makassar; (2) The students' perception regarding the utilization of the Rehearsal Strategy in improving reading comprehension. The study was conducted with second-semester students from the English Department at Muhammadiyah University of Makassar. A quasi-experimental design was employed, consisting of a pre-test, eight treatment sessions, and a post-test. Data were collected using a reading test and a questionnaire, and were analyzed using statistical methods such as independent sample t-test and frequency analysis of the questionnaire. The findings of the study revealed that the p-value of the independent t-test for the post-test scores was less than 0.05, indicating a significant difference in reading comprehension between students taught with the rehearsal strategy and those without it. The analysis of the questionnaire demonstrated that the students held a highly positive perception towards the implementation of the Rehearsal Strategy.

Abstract

The primary motivation for this study was the inadequate ability of students at SMK Negeri 1 Jatibarang Indramayu to analyze anecdotal texts and the challenges faced by teachers in developing effective learning models. The objectives of the research were to assess the effectiveness of the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) model in teaching Grade X students how to analyze anecdotal texts and to outline the learning process. The study employed an experimental approach with a nonequivalent control group design. The research population consisted of all Grade X students, with Grade X AKL 1 (20 students) as the control group and Grade X AKL 2 (20 students) as the experimental group, selected through purposive sampling. Data collection involved written tests and observations. The t-test results revealed a t-value of 4.727, surpassing the t-table value of 2.024, indicating the acceptance of Ha and the rejection of Ho. This suggests that the Contextual Teaching and Learning model is effective in teaching the analysis of anecdotal texts. Therefore, it can be concluded that the Contextual Teaching and Learning model is successfully implemented in teaching Grade X students at SMK Negeri 1 Jatibarang during the 2022/2023 academic year. The analysis of observation data further demonstrates that the application of the Contextual Teaching and Learning model enhances student engagement in the process of analyzing anecdotal texts for Grade X students at SMK Negeri 1 Jatibarang Indramayu in the 2022/2023 academic year.
