Abstract

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine how Islamic boarding schools and communities in Plumpang Village, Tuban Regency, are using adaptation and mitigation strategies for climate change. A nationwide program called the Climate Village Program (ProKlim) aims to lower greenhouse gas emissions and make communities more resilient to the effects of climate change. The descriptive qualitative method was employed in this study, and interviews, observations, focus groups (FGDs), and documentation were used to gather data. The findings demonstrated that the Plumpang Village community has undertaken a number of adaptation initiatives, including the building of reservoirs, biopores, and water management infrastructure. Additionally, using yard space, using renewable energy sources, and practicing sustainable waste management are all part of mitigation efforts. The examination of the effectiveness of adaptation and mitigation produced a final ProKlim value of 52.72%, with a percentage of adaptation value of 19.07% and mitigation value of 15.20%. This study demonstrates that, given the complexity of climate change, it is imperative to integrate mitigation and adaptation strategies. For the next generation's living conditions and wellbeing to improve, there needs to be strong global policy advocacy coupled with interdisciplinary collaboration across government agencies, the business sector, and communities. The program also aims to support locally run eco-friendly businesses, which should strengthen community resistance to the negative effects of climate change.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze how social change and structural transformation in Indonesia affect social solidarity in modern society, using Durkheim's theory as an analytical framework. The library method in this study uses literature studies to explore Émile Durkheim's main thoughts on social solidarity, focusing on the transition from mechanical solidarity to organic solidarity in modern society. The sources used include Durkheim's works as well as articles and books that discuss the application of Durkheim's theory in the increasingly diversified Indonesian social context. Qualitative analysis is carried out to compare Durkheim's concepts with social realities in Indonesia, as well as to provide recommendations for strengthening social solidarity amidst cultural, religious, and ethnic diversity. In Émile Durkheim's perspective, social solidarity is key to maintaining unity and cohesion in society. Durkheim distinguishes between mechanical solidarity, which occurs in simple and homogeneous societies, and organic solidarity, which emerges in more complex and diversified societies. Indonesia, with its rich diversity in culture, religion, ethnicity, and language, faces significant challenges in sustaining social solidarity amidst rapid social changes. The transition from mechanical to organic solidarity, driven by urbanization, industrialization, and globalization, brings new challenges such as anomie, social inequality, identity crises, and deeper social fragmentation, requiring ongoing efforts to keep solidarity strong and inclusive.

Abstract

Workplace safety in laboratories is a top priority, especially for activities involving materials that have the potential to pose hazards, such as flammable chemicals or substances that may cause health issues. Educational laboratories in higher education institutions carry such hazard potential, necessitating adequate safety facilities and work safety procedures. This study aims to assess the level of hazard potential, as well as the implementation of work safety measures and the availability of safety facilities in educational laboratories at the university level. Data collection methods include questionnaires and interviews. The results indicate that most educational laboratories have a low level of dangerous gases, toxic chemicals, corrosive chemicals, and flammable chemical hazard potential. This hazard potential is supported by essential safety facilities such as fume hoods and fire extinguishers. This finding suggests that the availability of supporting safety facilities needs to be installed to improve the laboratory safety.
