Abstract

Academic burnout is a psychological challenge experienced by many Generation Z students, especially in their final semester when they are faced with the pressures of writing a thesis, graduation goals, and interrelated academic and personal demands. This study aims to explore in depth the psychological dynamics and coping strategies used by Generation Z students in dealing with academic burnout. This study used a descriptive qualitative approach with four informants, final semester students from various study programs at Muhammadiyah University of Yogyakarta, selected through a purposive sampling technique. Data were collected through in-depth semi-structured interviews and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model. The results show that academic burnout in Generation Z students is multidimensional, triggered by the pressure of completing a thesis, social comparison with peers, academic role conflict, and accumulated personal and family demands. In dealing with it, informants use four forms of coping strategies: problem-focused coping, emotion-focused coping, avoidance coping, and religious-spiritual coping, which are used flexibly according to each individual's assessment of the situation at hand. In addition, social support from family and friends, as well as internal motivation, play a role in helping students cope with academic stress. This study makes a theoretical contribution by expanding the understanding of stress coping mechanisms beyond the Lazarus and Folkman framework by adding spiritual and cultural dimensions, as well as a practical contribution to the development of mental health support services in higher education settings.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the integration of communication strategies and learning methods in the formation of noble character in students at the Khoiru Ummah Islamic Boarding School in Central Maluku. The study used a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were obtained through participatory observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation of 15 informants consisting of Islamic boarding school leaders, educational administrators, ustaz, musyrif, and students. Data analysis was carried out using the Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña model through data condensation, data presentation, and drawing conclusions, while data validity was tested by triangulation of sources, techniques, and time. The results showed that the formation of noble character was carried out through the integration of redundancy, informative, educative, coercive, and selective communication strategies with learning methods of lectures, questions and answers, discussions, and sorogan. This integration resulted in the process of internalizing Islamic values through habituation, role models, strengthening discipline, interpersonal interaction, and continuous reflection and evaluation. The implementation of communication strategies is supported by communicator competence, a culture of exemplary behavior, adequate facilities and infrastructure, and organizational openness. While language and cultural differences, the physical and psychological conditions of students, communication prejudices, and time constraints are inhibiting factors. This research produces a conceptual model of the integration of communication strategies and learning methods that contributes to the development of Islamic educational communication theory and serves as a practical reference in strengthening Islamic boarding school-based character education.

Abstract

The rapid advancement of digital transformation has posed significant challenges for Islamic primary schools (Madrasah Ibtidaiyah), requiring school leaders to improve educational quality while preserving Islamic values and institutional identity. These challenges extend beyond technology adoption to include organizational adaptation, leadership capacity, and sustainable school development. This study aims to analyze the strategic role of adaptive leadership in enabling principals to navigate digital transformation and respond effectively to the educational demands of the twenty-first century. The study employed a qualitative library research approach by systematically reviewing peer-reviewed journal articles, academic books, policy documents, and other authoritative publications related to adaptive leadership, digital transformation, and Islamic education. The findings reveal that adaptive leadership strengthens organizational adaptability through collaborative decision-making, continuous professional learning, digital literacy development, innovation-oriented school management, and value-based governance grounded in Islamic principles. Furthermore, adaptive school leaders are better positioned to foster institutional resilience by integrating technological innovation with stakeholder collaboration and sustainable organizational learning. This study concludes that adaptive leadership provides a comprehensive strategic framework for guiding digital transformation in Islamic primary schools while maintaining their Islamic educational identity. The findings contribute to the development of adaptive leadership literature by offering an integrated conceptual perspective that combines organizational adaptation, digital transformation, and Islamic educational values within the context of Madrasah Ibtidaiyah.
