Abstract

In the Russian Federation, there is a community of 20 million Muslims, making up roughly 13% of the country's population. This demographic presents a diverse minority, characterized by variations in ethnicity, language, and culture. Notably, the case of Russian Muslims stands out due to the significant generational shift observed within the community. Unlike their predecessors, who experienced a disconnect from Islam because of the secularist and communist ideologies prevalent during the Soviet era, the younger generation exhibits a heightened level of religious devotion. This phenomenon underscores the unique dynamic within Russian Muslim society. Central to this discussion are Muslim female YouTubers, who serve as a reliable and easily accessible resource for understanding Islam. Beyond disseminating religious teachings, these content creators utilize the platform to address the challenges confronting Muslims in Russia and the wider Islamic community (ummah). Their presence on YouTube not only facilitates dialogue but also fosters a sense of community among viewers, offering a platform for the exchange of ideas and perspectives.

Abstract

This research investigates how the Gudang Garam Filter Internasional cigarette ad, "The Greatest Choice," employs masculine rhetoric to shape consumer behavior and disseminate ideology. Utilizing Fairclough’s Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) method, the study explores three critical dimensions: text, discourse practice, and socio-cultural practice. The descriptive analysis reveals the ad's emphasis on masculinity, depicting a man's character through hard work, success, and luxury. The interpretation of meaning in the advertising text creates a dualism of meaning, forming two interpretation perspectives: one from the cigarette enthusiasts and another from the product itself. In socio-cultural practice, this dualism reflects how perceptions are constructed in society, aiming to build the product's identity by embedding ideologies and values into Gudang Garam Internasional cigarettes. The study concludes the advertisement is not just a technology for promoting products, but also a means of spreading ideology. With the formation of the product’s image in society, it also becomes a tangible form that advertising has become an extension of human ability in persuasive communication.

Abstract

Abstract

This study analyses audience sentiment toward the program "LIVE - Anies and Efek Kejut di Pilkada Jakarta | ROSI" on KompasTV's YouTube channel to understand public perception in digital discourse. Using a descriptive-exploratory approach, data consisting of 1,742 comments were collected via web scraping with Python and processed through preprocessing, translation, and sentiment classification using TextBlob. The analysis revealed that 53.1% of the comments were positive, 36.61% neutral, and 10.29% negative. A word cloud visualization highlighted the dominance of terms related to Anies Baswedan as the discussion's focal point. Furthermore, contextual and semantic analysis of several comments emphasized the limitations of automated classification in accurately capturing sentiment. The study underscores the necessity of integrating quantitative and qualitative methods to gain comprehensive insights into public opinion on digital platforms. Abstract

This study revisits the notion of sharenting by providing a study within Indonesia context. Scholarship discusses sharenting and concludes that as a practice, sharenting does not resemble what constitutes the identity of a 'good mother' and risk children’s safety online. This study reframes Employing argument on identity and performativity, this study demostrates the neoliberal mothers have established a new image of ‘a good mother’, especially within their engagement with digital media. Employing the digital ethnography approach, this study collect data from both online observations as well as depth interviews with mothers who are engaged with sharenting practices. Focusing on sharenting practices on 8 Indonesian mothers, this study agrees that identity of a good mother is not fixed, yet it is very conflictual and progressive. Mothers do not only show agency in claiming the performativity, yet they are also aware the consequence of the claim. Following the neoliberal narrative of the intensive motherhood, this study shows that mothers renarrate identity of a good mother as discipline, happy, grateful, competitive, resilient, hardworking and adept at risk management including managing children safety risk online. At the same time, mothers remain preserving the dominant identity of a good mother, who fully devote themselves to the childrearing activities. This study conclude that mothers’ agency in claiming new forms of identity in the neoliberal regime portrays the notion of the subject-in-process, that mothers’ performativity in neoliberal regime is both subversive, yet preserving the dominant identity of mother, and beyond.
