Abstract

The cat's whisker plant (Orthosiphon stamineus) can be useful as an antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antihypertensive, antidiabetic, and anti-microbial activity and has a diuretic effect. The leaves of the cat's whiskers are medicinal plants that contain flavonoid compounds. Cat whiskers plant can also be used to treat various types of diseases both empirically and clinically, including kidney stones. Kidney stones are a clinical disorder due to the blockage of the components of crystal stones that inhibit the work of the kidneys and can cause abnormalities in the urinary tract. Some constituent compounds that are usually found in kidney stones are calcium oxalate, calcium phosphate (brusit), uric acid, cystine, struvite (MgNH4PO4), and wedelit (Bakta, 1995). Efforts to treat kidney stones by utilizing a variety of herbs as medicine, in this context by using a cat whiskers plant called Alternative Medicine, this is because herbal plants have minimal side effects in long-term use when used with the right indications and proportions, the price is also more affordable and easy to obtain. The purpose of this paper is to discuss and provide information on morphology, secondary metabolite content, and pharmacological activity of cat whiskers plants so that they can be used as a support for kidney health. This research is a study of literature or literature review is a type of research that collects, manages, uses, and reviews research data sourced from scientific research journals, previous research manuscripts, and textbooks that have relevance to the theme. The results of a literature search indicate that the cat's whisker plant can be beneficial for kidney health because the extract has diuretic activity and can modulate the excretion of sodium and potassium ions in the urine. The presence of flavonoids, saponins, and phenolic compounds that play a role in diuresis activity, so this cat whiskers plant is efficacious in treating kidney stone disease because it has the effect of destroying kidney stones, reducing urine (diuretic) and anti-inflammatory (anti-inflammatory). Abstract

Tooth avulsion is a severe condition of traumatic dental injury. The long-time effect of untreated tooth avulsion is alveolar bone loss. The mini dental implant can be a treatment for single tooth replacement in a late tooth avulsion with bone resorption. The purpose of this study is to present a case report of the mini dental implant in a late avulsion of an anterior maxillary tooth without bone augmentation. Thirty years old male patients came to clinic with the left upper central incisor avulsed due to a traffic accident three years before. There has been mild vertical and horizontal bone resorption and diastemas. He wanted to replace the missing tooth with a fixed denture, and the patient refused any bone augmentation. The mini dental implant was an alternative treatment for this case. Orthodontic treatment was performed to regain space before mini dental implant placement because some teeth had been migrated, causing some diastemas. After seven months of orthodontic treatment, we inserted a 3.0 x 13.0 mm nobel active implant bone level and installed the healing abutment. The prosthetic crown was screwed carefully using a manual torque wrench with a maximum torque force not exceeding 15 Ncm. The mini dental implant could be a treatment for a late avulsion case without bone augmentation. DOI : 10.54052/jhds.v2n3.p405-414

Abstract

Infectious diseases are the second leading cause of death in the world after cardiovascular disease. Chronic infections were caused by anaerobic gram-negative bacteria that contain lipopolysaccharides which function as the primary defense of bacteria against antibiotics and antimicrobials. These bacteria can cause chronic inflammation. Chronic inflammation can lead to the accumulation of lymphocytes in the spleen, which plays a role in the immune system. An adequate immune system is needed to overcome these infections through immunostimulators, one of which was obtained from anthocyanins derived from black rice (Oryza sativa L.indica). This study aims to determine the effect of black rice ethanol extract on the spleen of Wistar rats induced by lipopolysaccharide. This study is an experimental laboratory study with a sample of 27 rats given 400 mg/kg BW black rice extract for 14 days; then, rats were induced with LPS 0.3 mg/kg BW intraperitoneally for 24 hours before being CO2 euthanized, and the spleen was taken to examine the diameter of the lymphoid follicles. The design of this research is the Posttest Only Control Group. The results were analyzed using the One-way ANOVA test with a p-value <0.05, meaning that there was a significant difference in the diameter of the lymphoid follicles between the treatment groups. The results showed that the diameter of the lymphoid follicles in the treatment group was more extensive than that in the positive and negative control groups. In conclusion, the ethanolic extract of black rice can increase the accumulation of lymphocyte cells in the white pulp zone, thereby increasing the diameter of the lymphoid follicles in the spleen of Wistar rats induced by lipopolysaccharide. Abstract

Red betel leaf (Piper crocatum) is one of the potential medicinal plants known to have properties to cure various diseases. The main components of betel leaf exhibit antiseptic, bactericidal, and antioxidant effects. The betel leaf was concentrated into an essential oil containing the antiseptic chemical. The antibacterial power of betel leaf essential oil is due to the content of phenolic compounds and their derivatives that can denature bacterial cell proteins, so it was considered to have potential as a material that could develop for periodontal therapy. After going through the stages of toxicity testing and repeated dose in terms of mortality, changes in body weight, and relative organ index of Wistar strain rats, the study continued to observe the effects that occurred after using single and repeated doses of 100, 400, and 1000 mg/kg BW in vivo using red betel leaf extract with the parameters of observing the behavior of rats studied for 14 days. Observation of the behavior of the test animals on toxic symptoms at each visit consisted of motor activity, straub phenomenon, piloerection, ptosis, corneal reflex, pineal reflex, lacrimation, vasodilation, catalepsy, dangling, reestablishment, walking backwards, circular walking, flexion, haffner, writhing, grooming, tremor, body shaking, vocalizations, urination, defecation, heart rate, salivation, mortality, posture, and breath changes before and after dosing for 14 days. From the observations, the analysis of the data obtained is primary data. Primary data in the form of qualitative data was obtained from data on effects that occurred after the rats were given a dose. After processing the data, the data is presented in tabular and narrative form based on the observations by showing the test dose used, the number of animals showing a toxic effect, the time of onset of a toxic effect and the percentage of animals in a group showing a toxic result. Based on the results of the study, red betel leaf extract with doses of 100, 400, and 1,000 mg/kg BW which was observed on the first and 14th days, did not cause toxic symptoms in all groups of rats, both on single administration and repeated administration for 14 days. Abstract

Impacted teeth are teeth obstructed during the eruption process; the high prevalence of impacted teeth, especially third molars, accompanied by complaints that arise, requires omentectomy. Winter's classification shows various positions of impacted third molars based on angulation. This classification is judged to be describe the relationship of the apical position of the mandibular third molar tooth to the mandibular canal more clearly. The odontectomy procedure requires an excellent preoperative approach to consider the structures around the mandibular third molar, one of which is the mandibular canal, because the canal's proximity to the third molar root can increase the risk of nerve injury during the odontectomy procedure. This study aims to determine the relationship between the third mandibular impaction Winter classification and the mandibular canal distance on panoramic radiographs. The samples of this study were 53 and were grouped according to the position of the impaction vertically, mesioangularly, horizontally, and distoangularly. The study was conducted cross-sectionally by measuring the apical distance of the mandibular third molar to the upper border of the canal on a panoramic radiograph using a manual caliper. The space obtained was statistically analyzed using the eta correlation test. The results showed that 38 and 48 impactions were found to have the most mesioangular impaction, followed by horizontal, vertical, and distoangular paping the least. The mesioangular position measured the distance from the apical third molar of the impacted mandible to the closest distance to the mandibular canal, followed by the horizontal and the longest distance in the vertical position. Statistical tests were conducted to determine the relationship between the mandibular third molars and the mandibular canal. In the test results, the calculated F value on tooth 38 (2.64) and tooth 48 (0.507) was smaller than the F table value (2.794); this indicates there is no significant relationship between the two variables. The absence of a close relationship between the mandibular third molar distance and the mandibular canal indicates the possible low risk of complications in paresthesia after the odontectomy procedure. Abstract

Coffee consumption can cause extrinsic discoloration. A treatment that can be done to improve tooth discoloration is bleaching. Bleaching procedures can be carried out using alternative materials that do not cause side effects on dental and oral health, such as baking soda (sodium bicarbonate). This study aims to determine the effectiveness of baking soda 20%, 40%, and 60% on teeth that were discolored by coffee. The study used experimental research with a pretest-posttest group design with a total of 27 premolars study samples divided into three treatment groups: soaking the teeth in a solution of baking soda 20%, 40%, and 60%. Measurement of tooth discoloration using the VITAPAN® Classical Shade guide. Data analysis using the One-Way Anova test followed by post-hoc Tukey analysis. The results showed a significant change in tooth color between the three immersion groups, namely the group with the concentration of baking soda 20%, 40%, and 60% with p=0.012 (p<0.05). A 60% baking soda solution was more effective in whitening teeth with coffee discoloration than 20% and 40%, respectively. DOI : 10.54052/jhds.v2n3.p467-478

Abstract

Systemic disease is a medical condition that can affect dental care and cause complications during and after dental treatment, so it needs special attention and treatment by dentists. Systemic diseases consist of heart disorders and hypertension, diabetes, blood disorders, and others. The purpose of this study is to determine the readiness of dentists to treat patients with systemic diseases. The study was conducted by distributing questionnaires in an electronic form to dentists in West Bandung Regency (KBB) and its surroundings in the form of experience in finding patients with systemic diseases in practice and readiness in their management. Questionnaires were obtained from 83 dentists, with the results describing that 98.8% of dentists had treated patients with systemic diseases. Systemic diseases that were often found in practice are hypertension (96.2%), then diabetes (89.2%), heart disorders (65.1%), asthma (47%), allergies (45.8%), stroke (37.3%), blood disorders (27.7%), kidney disorders (25.3%), thyroid disorders (24.1%), liver disorders (14.5%), and others (2.4%). The results show that dentists in the KBB area were well-prepared to treat patients with systemic diseases. Dental and oral care in patients with systemic diseases were found in daily practice. Based on the research results, most dentists have encountered patients with systemic diseases and are ready to treat patients with controlled systemic diseases. However, when the systemic disease conditions are not governed, the dentist chooses to consult the patient with a general practitioner or internal medicine specialist first. Most dentists in the West Bandung Regency and its surroundings have found patients with systemic diseases who were well-prepared for their management plans at their practice sites.
