Abstract

PT. XY, a textile company specializing in woven sarongs, faces fluctuating demand during Islamic religious celebrations, impacting production. In Ramadhan 2023, production increased by 30%, but warp yarn availability was insufficient. This study forecasts warp yarn production over twelve periods, comparing Double Exponential Smoothing Holt’s (DES) and Holt-Winter’s Exponential Smoothing (WES) methods, optimized using the golden section method. Using historical data from January 2021 to April 2023, WES with golden section parameters (α1 = 0.67387, β1 = 0.08756, γ2 = 0.85408) achieved the best accuracy with a MAPE of 5.5437%. The WES method is recommended for improving production planning at PT. XY, with future research suggested to explore production correlations and procurement costs. Highlight: Demand Fluctuation: PT. XY experiences significant demand changes during Islamic religious celebrations. Forecasting Methods: Comparing DES and WES methods for predicting warp yarn production. Optimal Accuracy: WES with golden section optimization achieved the lowest MAPE of 5.5437%. Keywoard: Textile Industry, Warp yarn forecasting, Production Planning, Holt-Winter's method, Golden section optimization

Abstract

Minimarkets face challenges of overcrowding and prolonged wait times, often due to suboptimal cashier staffing. This study aims to determine the optimal number of cashiers to minimize queues. Using a single-phase multi-channel queuing model, data was collected through direct observation and quantitative analysis. Initial findings with two cashiers revealed varying wait times, prompting simulation experiments. Results indicated that adding a third cashier significantly reduced wait times to 0.41-2.45 minutes, enhancing service efficiency and customer satisfaction. Future research may explore longer observation periods and assess cost-effectiveness in staffing adjustments. Highlight: Data Analysis: Direct observation, quantitative data, and Excel processing for insights. Simulation Test: Arena software simulates cashier scenarios for service optimization. Efficiency Boost: Adding a cashier reduces wait times, enhancing customer satisfaction. Keywoard: Minimarket, Queuing Model, Cashier Optimization, Service Efficiency, Customer Satisfaction.

Abstract

People's consumption of household electronic devices is increasing, leading to higher energy demand in Indonesia, with washing machines being a significant contributor. This study explores repurposing used washing machine dynamos into electricity generators for windmills. Researchers used an LG washing machine dynamo and N52 neo super magnets, testing pulley diameters of 12 cm, 15 cm, 18 cm, and 20 cm. Results showed that larger pulleys increased generator output, with a 20 cm pulley producing 26 volts, 1.3 amperes, and 2525 rpm. However, the efficiency was low at 8.69%, indicating a need for further optimization. This approach has potential for sustainable energy solutions and reducing electronic waste. Highlight: Repurpose Dynamos: Converts washing machines to windmill generators, reducing electronic waste. Efficiency Challenge: Larger pulleys improve output but efficiency is only 8.69%. Sustainable Impact: Offers potential for sustainable energy and lower household consumption. Keyword: household electronics, energy consumption, washing machine dynamo, windmill generator, sustainable energy
