Abstract

This article discusses the sociological-ideological interpretation of 1 Corinthians 7:1-11, where Paul responds to the Corinthians' questions regarding marriage and celibacy. In this analysis, the social and ideological context of Corinthian society serves as the basis for understanding Paul's views. By considering the moral conditions and social structure of Corinth, the article examines how the local worldview influenced the interpretation of the text, as well as how the biblical text impacts the social life of the church. The research findings indicate that Paul's decisions about marriage and celibacy were not based on absolute principles, but rather on the specific sociological circumstances in Corinth at the time. Paul's perspective on marriage is also closely related to the Christian teaching on the sacred relationship between Christ and His church. This article emphasizes the importance of considering the social context when interpreting biblical texts, particularly in understanding issues related to family and personal relationships within the church community.

Abstract

In the context of Israel’s liberation from Egyptian slavery, God is depicted as the victor who defeats Pharaoh through the drowning of the Egyptian army in the Red Sea. God's power, surpassing that of Egypt, underscores that this deliverance was entirely the result of His might, without direct intervention from the people of Israel. Through the narrative of Exodus 15:1-21, the author highlights the relationship between the song of salvation sung by Moses and Miriam and the destruction experienced by Egypt. This song is an expression of gratitude for the victory granted by God, showing His favor towards the Israelites. The author hypothesizes that the destruction of the enemy is a manifestation of God’s glory as a Divine Warrior, who fights against sin and brings salvation to His people. The theoretical framework includes an etymological and terminological analysis of the concepts of warfare, salvation, and song in the biblical context. Warfare is seen as a divine act to display God's glory through victory over enemies. Salvation is understood as liberation from both physical and spiritual oppression, ultimately fulfilled in the name of Jesus Christ. Song, as an expression of thanksgiving, reinforces the theme of salvation in the Exodus narrative, where the Israelites celebrate their deliverance by praising God. Overall, this study affirms that the event of Israel’s liberation is central to the Old Testament’s salvation history, with God serving as the Savior and Warrior who brings victory to His people.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to assess the mental health conditions influences by religiosity, education level and attachment to God on the mental health of youth in GKJW Rungkut, Surabaya. Data were collected using a questionnaire administered to youth in GKJW Rungkut, Surabaya, aged between 16 and 35 years. The sample comprised 120 respondents. The questionnaire used a Likert scale (1-5), and statistical analysis was conducted using Warp-PLS. The results indicate that the levels of religiosity and mental health among the youth in GKJW Rungkut, Surabaya, are significant. However, aspects such as anxiety and low self-esteem are still at a moderate level. This suggests that a significant level of religiosity alone has not been able to fully address anxiety and low self-esteem. Statistical testing revealed that religiosity, education level, and attachment to God have a simultaneous influence on the mental health of the youth in GKJW Rungkut. The research model demonstrated adequate predictive relevance (Q² > 0), indicating that it can be used for further research.

Abstract

In today's era of globalization and cultural pluralism, the relationship between the Gospel and culture has become an increasingly complex issue. Various theological perspectives have developed to understand how the message of the Gospel interacts with diverse cultural values and practices. The debate surrounding accommodation or resistance to local and global cultures requires a deeper examination within the context of Christian theology. This study aims to explore the relationship between the Gospel and culture from theological and social perspectives, as well as how this relationship influences the practice of Christian faith in contemporary multicultural and dynamic societies. The approach used in this research is qualitative theological analysis, with a literature review of contextual theology texts and cultural studies. The collected data were critically analyzed to identify patterns of interaction between the Gospel and culture in the modern social context. The research finds that the Gospel can interact with culture through a dialectical process involving acceptance, adaptation, and transformation of cultural values. In some cases, culture enriches religious practices, but in other situations, there are tensions that require deep theological reflection to ensure that Gospel values are not compromised by certain cultural practices. The relationship between the Gospel and culture is dynamic and contextual. It is important for Christian theology to develop a flexible approach while adhering to the core teachings of the Gospel in the face of cultural changes. In this way, the Gospel can remain relevant and significant in the lives of contemporary societies without losing its integrity.

Abstract

This research examines ecclesiology in the context of the house church movement, which emerged as a response to the dynamics of postmodernism. Using the qualitative descriptive content analysis method, this research explores the theological and structural changes that occur in the house church model, as well as the challenges and potential it faces. Postmodernism, which rejects central authority and emphasizes pluralism and individuality, has created conditions favorable to the development of house churches, which are more participatory, decentralized, and community-based. However, this research also highlights the risks facing house churches, including theological fragmentation and a lack of control over orthodoxy. This research finds that despite these challenges, house churches are able to respond to the needs of postmodern society in a flexible and contextually relevant way. Digital technology plays an important role in expanding the reach of house churches, while maintaining community intimacy. Additionally, this research suggests that collaboration between house churches and institutional churches can strengthen overall ecclesiology by combining innovation and stability. The house church is predicted to have the potential to continue to develop in the future, serving as a relevant and significant ecclesiological model for an ever-changing global context.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the concept of physical death from a Christian perspective, focusing on the beliefs, hopes, and meanings associated with it. Using a literature review method, data was gathered from books and articles addressing death within Christian thought. The analysis reveals three significant insights. First, Christian beliefs about physical death include varied understandings of life after death, the relationship between soul and body, and the role of Jesus Christ in death and eternal life. Second, Christian hope regarding physical death encompasses aspects such as the anticipation of heaven, reunion with God, and the immortality of the soul. This hope provides peace and support as Christians approach death, inspiring them to live with purpose and meaning. Third, the meaning of physical death from a Christian perspective includes the understanding of life’s purpose, spiritual preparation, and humanity's role within God’s plan. For Christians, physical death is not viewed as an end but as a transition to a better life. The findings of this study offer deeper insights into how Christian beliefs shape perceptions, hopes, and meanings surrounding physical death. Practical implications of this research can support and guide Christians in confronting mortality.

Abstract

As a redeemed people, love should be the primary character of believers. However, one of the challenges in the end times is that the love of many will grow cold. This is evident in the rapidly developing digital era, which has transformed nearly every aspect of human life. The social world has become more open, and news or information is quickly accessible to many. One phenomenon that often occurs is the tendency for people to disclose many things publicly, both good and bad, including the sins of others. Acts of shaming, bullying, and exposing others’ faults have become commonplace, even among Christians. Issues concerning love are frequently discussed in the Bible and often lead to varying interpretations. One verse that often draws attention is 1 Peter 4:8, which contains the phrase “love covers a multitude of sins.” This study aims to understand the meaning of the phrase “love covers a multitude of sins” according to 1 Peter 4:8 and provide guidance for believers in applying love within the context of this challenging digital era. The author uses an exegetical method to analyze this text in order to provide a biblical response for believers in facing current phenomena. The results of this study show the importance of love as a top priority for believers, as true love does not focus on exposing others' faults but rather on covering and forgiving them. Believers are taught not only to prioritize sincere love within themselves but also to reflect God's love, which was revealed through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, to others through concrete actions, specifically by not exposing the faults or sins of others and by not repaying evil with evil.

Abstract

The role of philosophy in Christianity has been a topic of intense discussion since the Patristic era. Philosophy is often viewed as ambiguous in its contributions to theological understanding and the practice of faith. This study aims to analyze the relevance of philosophy in Christianity, particularly as a support for theological reflection and the practical life of Christians. Using a qualitative approach, the research integrates an in-depth literature review of the works of major Christian philosophers such as Augustine, Thomas Aquinas, and Karl Rahner, while also exploring the interaction between philosophy and theology in a contemporary context. The findings reveal that philosophy plays a significant role in three main aspects: (1) providing a rational framework for understanding and communicating theological doctrines, (2) serving as a tool for critical thinking in addressing modern intellectual challenges to faith, and (3) acting as an ethical foundation supporting Christian life practices. These results also indicate that the integration of philosophy with theology enriches the experience of faith and opens constructive interdisciplinary dialogue. In conclusion, philosophy is not only relevant but also essential in strengthening the foundations of Christian theology while advancing a more reflective life of faith. This study makes a significant contribution to the development of interdisciplinary studies between philosophy and theology, offering new insights for church leaders, academics, and Christians in exploring faith rationally and holistically.
