Abstract

Lung cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths globally. Cigarette smoking remains the primary risk factor. The Fagerstrom Test for Nicotine Dependence (FTND) and the Brinkman Index are used to assess nicotine addiction and smoking intensity, respectively. These indices are associated with pulmonary function, typically assessed through spirometry. Objective: To determine the relationship between Fagerstrom scores and Brinkman Index with spirometry results in lung cancer patients. Methods: This quantitative observational study applied a cross-sectional design involving 68 smoking lung cancer patients at RSUP Haji Adam Malik and RS Prof. CPL Universitas Sumatera Utara. Data were collected via FTND and Brinkman Index questionnaires and spirometry testing. Data were analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis test with a significance level of p<0.05. Results: Most patients exhibited moderate nicotine dependence (44.1%) and moderate smoking history per Brinkman Index (52.9%). Spirometry results indicated a high prevalence of obstructive and restrictive impairments. There was a significant correlation between FTND/Brinkman Index and lung function (p<0.001). Conclusion: Both Fagerstrom scores and Brinkman Index show a strong relationship with spirometry outcomes, indicating impaired pulmonary function among lung cancer patients.

Abstract

Low accounting literacy among MSMEs is the main obstacle in achieving Indonesia's sustainable economic targets. Although SAK EMKM has come here as a simplified accounting standard solution, its adoption rate is still low. This study aims to determine the understanding of MSMEs in preparing financial reports based on the Indonesian Financial Accounting Standards (SAK EMKM). The research approach used is descriptive. The population in this study were MSMEs engaged in the bread production business in Mandau District, Bengkalis Regency. Data collection methods were conducted through interviews and documentation of eight MSME bread producers in Mandau District, Bengkalis Regency. The data analysis technique used in this study was qualitative descriptive analysis. The results of this study, following the interviews, indicated that MSMEs have recorded their finances, but only in a basic manner. MSMEs' understanding of preparing financial reports based on the Indonesian Financial Accounting Standards (SAK EMKM) remains low. The financial reports produced by MSMEs are still far from compliant with the Indonesian Financial Accounting Standards (SAK EMKM). This study emphasizes the importance of education and mentoring for MSMEs to improve their understanding of the obligation to prepare financial reports in accordance with the Indonesian Financial Accounting Standards (SAK EMKM). With this increased understanding, it is hoped that compliance and the quality of MSME financial records can be improved to support sustainable economic growth.

Abstract

Indonesia's construction industry faces challenges in maintaining quality while optimizing costs, especially in the selection of formwork methods that greatly affect the quality of concrete structures and overall project efficiency. This study aims to analyze the implementation of Cost of Quality (COQ) in conventional and semi-system formwork for the KIPP Continuation Dam and DAS Pemaluan project. The research method uses a comparative quantitative approach with COQ analysis covering prevention, appraisal, internal failure, and external failure costs. Results show that conventional formwork COQ is 87.14%, dominated by internal failures (43.54%) due to vulnerability to installation errors and material damage. Meanwhile, semi-system formwork COQ is 21.77% with a more balanced distribution between prevention costs (44.04%) and internal failures (15.62%). Technical planning shows conventional formwork requires support spacing of 170mm, horizontal supports 810mm, and braces 690mm, while semi-system requires 250mm, 900mm, and 1065mm respectively. Although conventional formwork material costs are 63% cheaper than semi-system, the high total quality costs make semi-system more efficient overall with more consistent performance and minimal rework risks.

Abstract

Dam is a structure consisting of earth, rock, and concrete embankments built to retain and contain water. Dam embankment work is generally carried out with the longest schedule during each dry season. The Way Apu Dam Construction Project experienced flooding due to the overflow of the Way Teba river exceeding the cofferdam on July 5, 2024, which could potentially reduce the quality of random rock embankment work. This study aims to analyze the factors that influence quality control of random rock embankment work using quantitative descriptive methods through statistical analysis with SPSS software. Data was collected through questionnaires to 44 respondents involved in the project. Factors influencing quality control were determined by multiple linear regression tests using the stepwise method. The results showed that there are 4 significant variables: "Worker Awareness in Quality Assurance and Control", "Documentation of Monitoring and Measurement Results at Each Stage of Work", "Documentation of Material Loading Checked by Field Director/Consultant", "Report on Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment, Control and Opportunities for Construction Safety" with F_count value = 34.334. The most dominant variable is "Worker Awareness in Quality Assurance and Control" based on T_count value = 8.929.

Abstract

While Indonesia's Free Nutritious Meal Program reaches 82.9 million beneficiaries with a budget of Rp71 trillion a year, it is plagued by transparency challenges in coordinating thousands of vendors and schools across the nation. This study proposes a Multi-stakeholder Transparency Requirement Framework, which systematically incorporates blockchain to fill key information loopholes. The study employed a mixed-methods exploratory sequential design, with semi-structured interviews with 10 stakeholders spanning government, vendor, school, and audit representatives, and document analysis of 58 regulatory and evaluation materials from 2020–2024. This streamlines maximized litany of operational constraints: 85% faced retraction and starkings in real time monitoring with information lagged of 3– 4 days, 89% needed manual amalgamation to data desk of 15– 20 hrs each week to take a call and 92% of felonious results of surveilance relied on tank bag I. By applying MoSCoW, it prioritized 26 requirements to where each were mapped 1:1 with 47 smart contract functions across six core contracts. On the distributed ledger side, the blockchain prototype implementation on Polygon zkEVM exhibited technical feasibility, offering transaction costs lower than $0.01, a processing speed varying from 50 to 200 transactions per second, and a gas reduction of 46.5% from baseline consumption levels. Validated by the stakeholders, it transformed the response time of the government from 72–96 hours to less than 5 minutes, the vendor payment delays were reduced from 14–21 days to less than 24 hours, and the audit processing times improved by 60%. It translates the principles of transparency into something actionable in the context of large-scale social programs, which often struggle with similar corruption-related challenges, and within which the diverse initiatives, such as those illustrated, can be replicated in a systematic manner in the developing world. To enhance the broader utility of the framework, future research should examine its applicability across programs and validate it in multiple regions.
