Abstract

This research was conducted to find the right model in the provincial head elections. This is based on the many deficiencies that occur when direct regional head elections are held such as multiple voter lists, logistical problems, low capacity of organizers, the emergence of SARA issues, strong money politics, bureaucratic politicization, and low participation in voting for the community (Pilkada Case Study Southeast Sulawesi 2018). This research encourages the alternative model of the governor and deputy governor election. Furthermore, if you want to be applied in Indonesia in general, more research needs to be done. First, improvements in the overall stages of governors and deputy governors' elections and the use of information technology to increase transparency, accountability, and efficiency. Second, the governor and the deputy governor's election is still carried out directly by tightening the nomination requirements. Among other things, they must participate in the regeneration of political parties, have experience and knowledge of government and local characteristics of the region, and are indigenous people who have lived long in the area. Third, the governor is still directly elected by the community, while the deputy governor can be proposed by the governor to the DPRD/MOHA from the private sector/ASN who meet special requirements, namely experience in government and knowledge of the local characteristics of the region.

Abstract

This research aimed to determine the stress level of parents facing children study from home at the early time of the enactment of COVID-19 social distance policy in Indonesia. The method was conducted using a survey through social media that was filled in by parents who had school-age children and were studying from home. The distribution and filling of questionnaires were conducted from March 31, 2020, to April 6, 2020. 236 respondents filled out the questionnaire, but after data cleaning processed only 223 respondents' data could be analyzed. The instrument used was the Perceived Stress Scale from Sheldon Cohen. The survey results indicate that the stress level of parents facing children study from home in the initial three weeks of social distance policy is 75.34 percent in the medium category, however there are 10.31 percent of respondents who have high-stress levels and 71.88 percent among them are women or mothers. High-stress levels are influenced, among others, by the inability of parents to guide learning, family health concerns, and family economic problems. This condition is likely to continue with the extension of the study from home period. For this reason, it is recommended that child social workers can provide online psychosocial services for parents who accompany children at home, such as family counseling, family therapy that parents and children can do, and increase family resiliency during the pandemic.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the differences in law enforcement authority between Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol Pamong Praja/ Satpol PP) and Indonesian National Police (Polri) in creating public order and peace of society and how the differences could cause an overlap in their implementation. The research method used is normative juridical legal research using a statutory, conceptual, and comparative approach. The results showed that differences in law enforcement authority between Satpol PP and Polri are in creating public order and peace of society. Satpol PP has an authority to maintain public order, while the National Police is more concerned with maintaining domestic security; Meanwhile, in carrying out their duties, the Satpol PP often overlaps and clashes with other law enforcers, especially the National Police. It cannot be denied that it often happens that the National Police finally have to become a "fire brigade" when carrying out their duties. The Satpol PP has to clash with the community, which then arises an anarchic situation. When in situations that could lead to further disturbance in security and public order, the National Police finally intervened. What often happened was that the National Police collided with the community because of the anarchist situation that had developed too far.

Abstract

The result of the break up of the Soviet Union empire in 1990 saw the emergence of China as the sole super power which still clings to the Communist ideology. China thus has the potential of taking over the previously held role of the Soviet Union. The re-emergence of China in the international arena after a long period of isolation may create a great impact on other super powers. China's intention and aspiration to be a new economic hegemonic power not only at regional but also at global levels makes China a country to be reckoned with. The writer will seek to discuss in this article three factors that contribute to China's economic success; firstly, the developments that have taken place in the transformation of China's economic policy from centrally controlled economy to that of the open and free economy as implemented by the Chinese leadership as part of their efforts to generate economic activities and increased competitiveness; secondly, the efforts in safeguarding China's interests in the WTO; and lastly, the role of Hong Kong's and Macau's participation in China's economic development.

Abstract

In line with the increasingly integrated economy in the midst of globalization, the financial crisis that occurred in one country can easily spread to other countries and become a global financial disaster in a short period of time. In such an event, strong economic fundamentals are essential to defend a country from the effects of a "contagious" crisis. As proof, due to fragile economic fundamentals and a lack of government credibility, the East Asian economy could be attacked easily by the crisis in 1997 once market confidence deteriorated. However, East Asia has learned a lot from the incident in 1997 so that it can prove its resilience in facing the global financial crisis that struck in 2008 by increasing its economic fundamentals and the credibility of policy makers. This paper starts with a theory about economic growth and the financial crisis. Next, empirically examine the extent of the financial crisis in 1997 and 2008 affecting the East Asian economy using econometric panel data. Evidence shows that, although the two crises had a negative impact on the East Asian economy, the 2008 crisis wave was relatively no worse than the 1997 crisis. Finally, this study also provides further explanation of how the East Asian economy has managed to minimize the impact of the global crisis in 2008.
