Abstract

Adolescent obesity represents a significant global health issue escalating in both developed and developing countries, including Indonesia, with impacts on non-communicable disease risks and psychosocial disorders. The complexity of its causes requires a holistic approach via the Socio-Ecological Model (SEM), integrating individual, social, environmental, and policy factors. This study aims to identify and analyze these factors influencing adolescent obesity incidence. A Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method guided by PRISMA 2020 was employed, searching PubMed, Scopus, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar (2020–2024) using keywords on adolescent obesity, socio-ecological model, and risk factors. From 2,530,000 initial articles, screening of titles, abstracts, and full texts yielded 12 high-quality articles for synthesis. Synthesis revealed individual-level factors such as high-calorie low-fiber diets, low physical activity, sedentary behavior, academic stress, and poor self-regulation contribute to elevated BMI in adolescents. Social factors include family parenting styles, peer influence, and social media; environmental aspects encompass limited healthy food access, fast food dominance, and scarce sports facilities; policy measures like unhealthy food marketing regulations and sugary drink taxes remain suboptimal in developing countries. In conclusion, adolescent obesity arises from multidimensional SEM interactions, necessitating comprehensive multilevel prevention interventions involving families, schools, communities, and government policies for sustained effectiveness.

Abstract

Sleep disturbances are common in patients with stroke and chronic kidney disease, potentially worsening health conditions and reducing quality of life. Non-pharmacological interventions have received less research attention, despite the potential for non-pharmacological approaches to improve sleep quality without causing side effects. This systematic review aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of non-pharmacological interventions in this population. Randomized controlled trials involving patients with stroke and chronic kidney disease aged >18 years were searched in seven English-language databases. Methodological quality was assessed using the JBI critical appraisal tool, and data were synthesized. 9 RCTs met inclusion criteria and demonstrated significant benefits. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (4 studies) consistently improved sleep quality and reduced fatigue, anxiety, and depression (p < 0.001). Reflexology (2 studies) decreased anxiety and improved sleep quality (p < 0.001). Acupuncture significantly improved ISI, PSQI, and HADS scores (p < 0.001–0.003). Lavender aromatherapy reduced depression and improved sleep quality (p < 0.001), while spiritual care improved sleep quality and spiritual well-being (p < 0.001). These findings highlight the role of nurses in implementing non-pharmacological interventions to address sleep disturbances and related psychological symptoms in patients with stroke and chronic kidney disease. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is recommended for patients with insomnia and psychological comorbidities, reflexology and massage may be beneficial for those undergoing hemodialysis, while acupuncture, aromatherapy, and spiritual care can be tailored to individual needs. Further research is needed to assess their long-term effectiveness and their integration into broader clinical practice.

Abstract

Motor impairments are a frequent and disabling consequence of vincristine‑based chemotherapy in children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). These deficits can compromise daily functioning and long‑term quality of life. This systematic review aimed to synthesize evidence on the prevalence and characteristics of motor impairments among pediatric ALL patients undergoing chemotherapy.  A comprehensive search was conducted across PubMed, ScienceDirect, Scopus, ClinicalKey, and ClinicalKey Nursing, supplemented by citation tracking. Observational studies published up to May 2025 were screened using the PEOS framework. Ten eligible studies involving 580 children were included. Outcomes assessed encompassed fine motor precision, manual dexterity, coordination, balance, agility, and strength. Motor impairments were consistently reported across all studies, with prevalence varying by treatment phase and country. During induction, prevalence ranged from 48% (USA) to 62.5% (Netherlands). In consolidation, rates reached 75.5% (Colombia). The highest prevalence was observed in the maintenance phase, with Turkey reporting 83.9% overall impairment and specific deficits in fine motor integration (70.6%), strength (74.4%), and upper‑limb coordination (61.1%). Finland showed the lowest overall prevalence (31.8%). Motor impairments are common and persistent in children with ALL receiving vincristine‑based chemotherapy, particularly during the maintenance phase. These findings underscore the need for standardized monitoring protocols, early detection, and timely rehabilitation strategies to mitigate long‑term functional decline and optimize quality of life in pediatric oncology care.
