Abstract

This research aims to explore the integration of Islamic economic principles in sustainable business development, highlighting the role of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Islamic economics, which is based on the values of justice, social responsibility, and balance, offers a relevant framework for businesses committed to sustainability. This research adopts a qualitative approach with literature study and document analysis methods to identify the contribution of Sharia CSR in strengthening the social, economic, and environmental aspects of the SDGs. The results suggest that the application of sharia principles in CSR can enhance positive impacts on communities and the environment, as well as improve corporate reputation sustainably. This integration not only strengthens the company's position in the market, but also contributes significantly to achieving SDGs targets, such as poverty reduction, education enhancement, and environmental preservation. These findings emphasize the importance of adopting Shariah values in corporate CSR strategies to support sustainable businesses that are more inclusive and equitable.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate how governance influences the Human Development Index (HDI) in eight developing Muslim-majority countries, collectively known as the D-8, by integrating an Islamic economic perspective. While existing literature recognizes governance as a key driver of HDI, few studies explore how Islamic economic values interact with governance mechanisms to shape human development outcomes. This research addresses this gap by examining the relationships among governance indicators, Islamic financial development, and HDI performance. Utilizing panel data from D-8 countries covering the period from 2013 to 2023, we employ the Generalized Method of Moments (GMM) approach to analyze the interactions between governance quality, Islamic financial development, and human development. Governance is assessed through indicators such as government effectiveness, regulatory quality, and control of corruption, while Islamic financial development is measured by the growth and outreach of Shariah-compliant financial institutions. Our findings reveal three key insights: (1) Governance exerts a synergistic effect that enhances HDI in D-8 countries. (2) The impact of individual governance indicators varies, with government effectiveness and regulatory quality consistently associated with higher HDI. (3) Islamic financial development positively influences HDI, particularly in health and social welfare sectors, underscoring the role of Islamic values in promoting human well-being. This study contributes to the economic development literature by demonstrating how Islamic economic principles can support the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) within a robust governance framework. For policymakers, the findings highlight the importance of aligning Islamic welfare principles with governance reforms to optimize human development outcomes in developing Muslim-majority countries.

Abstract

This research aims to determine Gen Z's desire to consume halal-certified products to support sustainable development. This study uses a questionnaire and expands the TPB theory popularized by Ajzen by adding religiousness and halal literacy variables, which aim to measure the extent to which these variables have an impact on the research object. The analytical model for this research (PLS-SEM) was adopted to test the research model on 357 samples obtained from five islands in Indonesia. The research results show that, first, testing perceived behavioral control and attitude has a significant effect on religiousness, while subjective norms and halal literacy do not have a significant effect on religiousness. Second, perceived behavioral control, attitude, subjective norms, and halal literacy have a significant effect on the willingness to consume sustainable development. Third, the religious variable does not show significant results on the willingness to consume sustainable development. This research proposes implications that emphasize increasing halal literacy for Gen Z throughout Indonesia by providing broad accessibility for an integral understanding of halal.

Abstract

Tourism is a vital global industry contributing to foreign exchange, regional development, and employment. However, the COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020 led to a drastic decline in tourist visits and expenditures. This study examines the factors influencing Muslim millennials’ intentions to visit Muslim-friendly destinations in Lombok, focusing on electronic word of mouth (e-WOM), Islamic tourism motivation, pandemic risk perception, and attitude toward destinations. Quantitative data were collected from 210 Muslim millennial respondents and analyzed with Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (SEM-PLS) via SmartPLS. The results indicate that e-WOM, Islamic tourism motivation, and attitude toward destinations significantly and positively affect visit intentions, while pandemic risk perception does not significantly impact. These findings suggest that psychological and informational factors, especially those distributed digitally, have a more substantial influence than health-related concerns. The study provides practical implications for halal tourism destination managers in optimizing e-WOM and digital marketing strategies, while maintaining post-pandemic health protocols to enhance tourist confidence. This research contributes to the post-pandemic halal tourism literature by integrating psychological and contextual variables in understanding the travel behavior of Muslim millennials.

Abstract

Technological advancements and the transition from traditional to online shopping have significantly impacted consumer behavior. The availability of various online marketplace platforms has changed shopping habits, modified purchasing trends, and shaped overall consumption decisions. This study examines the influence of income, Islamic financial literacy, and social media on consumer behavior in Java, Indonesia. This study used quantitative methods. Data were collected through questionnaires from residents of Central Java. The study sample, consisting of 530 respondents, was obtained using simple random sampling. The independent variables included income, Islamic financial literacy, and social media, while the dependent variable was consumer behavior. The data were analyzed using SmartPLS software, which involves a structural model (inner model) and a measurement model (outer model). This study revealed that Islamic financial literacy and social media have a significant impact on consumer behavior, while income showed no significant effect. The coefficient of determination (Adjusted R Square) of 0.702 (70%), indicates that income, Islamic financial literacy, and social media collectively influence 70% of consumer behavior, with the remaining 30% being due to unexplored factors. The transformation of the digital economy has had a multidimensional impact on consumption behavior, from psychological to economic. Therefore, understanding these changes is crucial for academics, business practitioners, and policymakers in designing adaptive strategies for the digital ecosystem.

Abstract

The Human Development Index (HDI) measures human development in the material dimension. This concept has not been able to become a measure of universal human development. The Islamic Human Development Index (I-HDI) measures human development through material and non-material aspects. Specifically, this concept can be a measurement of development in Muslim countries like Indonesia, namely as an effort to increase economic development. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of economic growth, fiscal policy, and zakat on HDI and I-HDI with the maqāṣid al-sharī'ah approach. The research method uses a quantitative approach with dynamic panel regression two-step Generalized Method of Moments (GMM). The results of the statistical test analysis show that three of the independent variables have a positive and significant effect on HDI and I-HDI, namely economic growth and government expenditure fiscal policy in the health and education sectors. Meanwhile, the zakat variable only has a positive and significant effect on I-HDI and has a non-significant effect on HDI. This condition occurs because the management of zakat is not carried out optimally by zakat institutions, and there are no strict regulations from the government in encouraging an increase in the collection of zakat funds in Muslim communities in Indonesia.

Abstract

Poverty is one of the main challenges faced by Indonesia, a country rich in natural resources and human potential. The presence of Islamic financial system is considered suitable for poverty alleviation programs. Islamic economics adheres to the principle of synergy (ta'awun) by creating economic justice to equalize the distribution of income and wealth, which is the goal of Islamic financial system. This research is a qualitative study with an inductive reasoning approach through a library research process. The data sources used to build the concept are secondary data derived from previous research in the form of articles discussing poverty. The research results show that the poverty rate in Indonesia tends to decrease from year to year. Market and banksbased industry have philosophical principles and operational bases that are integrated with social values and economic activities. Poverty will be reduced if all elements of society work together to support programs originating from the government and from other institutions, such as banking support for poverty alleviation.
