Abstract

ABSTRACTINCOME ANALYSIS OF NATIVE CHICKEN FARMING RAISED  EXTENSIVELY IN DIMEMBE SUBDISTRICT. The goal of this research were to investigate the income on the business of domestic poultry that is maintained extensively and to determine the factors that influence it. The study was conducted by using survey and interview methods based on a list of questions toward 80 respondents of native chicken farmers in  Dimembe Sub District. Data analysis were descriptive and quantitative analysis. Quantitative analysis was done by  using multiple regression techniques of the Cobb-Douglass model. The results showed that the average net income from selling free-range chickens, which is Rp. 2.780.471,875 /year / breeder. The results of the regression analysis showed that altogether the independent variables influenced the income of farmers as much as 73.1%. Partially the independent variables that significantly influence farmers 'income (P<0,05) were labor costs and farmers' perceptions  while feed costs drug and vitamin costs and the cage cost were not significantly effect on  breeder’s income from native chicken farming (P> 0.05)  Production costs of a locally-grown free-range chicken farm are mostly used to buy feed.

Abstract

EFFECT OF PARTLY SUBSTITUTION OF BASAL DIET WITH SWEET POTATO VINES (Ipomoea batatas)  MEAL ON ENERGY AND PROTEIN DIGESTIBILITY OF PIGS. Pork is one of the meat producer animals that can contribute to satisfy animal protein requirements. Sweet potato vines is considered as an agricultural waste product and can be used as feedstuff for pigs. The present  study was conducted to determine the utilization of sweet potato vines  substituting basal diet on energy and protein digestibility of finisher pigs. Five ‘Duroc X Spotted Poland China’ castrated male pigs, aged 3.5 to 4.0 months with an initial body weight 50 kg (±2.5 kg) were assigned to four treatments as follow: R0 = 100% basal diet + 0% sweet potato vines meal; R1 = 92.5% basal diet + 7.5% sweet potato vines meal; R2 = 85% basal diet + 15% sweet potato vines meal; R3 = 77.5% basal diet + 22.5% sweet potato vines meal; and R4 = 70% basal diet + 30% sweet potato vines meal. Parameters measured were: energy and protein digestibility. Research reasults showed that there is no significant differences  (P > 0.05) among treatments on energy and protein digestibility of pigs in the present study. This indicated that utilization of sweet potato vines meal up to 30% replacing basal diet did not affect digestible energy and protein of finishing pigs. It can be concluded that substituting basal diet with sweet potato vines meal up to 30% has no negative effect on energy and protein digestibility of finishing pigs.   Keywords: Sweet potato vines, energy digestibility, protein digestibility, pigs

Abstract

CRUDE FIBER AND FAT DIGESTIBILITY OF INDONESIAN YEARLING LOCAL-RACING HORSE FED LOCAL AND IMPORTED CONCENTRATE. The objective of this study was to determine the ability of racing foals to digest feed both local and imported feed. This study was conducted at the Tonsewer Village, Tompaso District for 30 days consisting of preparation and data collection. The data were collected from type and amount of feed consumed by racing foals and the number of feces (head-1 day-1). The animals of 20 individuals at the ages of 13-24 months old were used in this study. The amount of 10 racing foals were fed local feed and the rests of 10 racing foals were fed imported feed. The variables measured were digestibility of crude fat and crude fiber, found as the difference between the feed substances consumed and those excreted in feces and divided by those consumed feed at 100%. The results showed that the average digestibility of crude fat for local feed was 66.16% and imported feed was 75.16%, respectively. The digestibility of local and imported raw fiber feed was 65.53% and 72.16%, respectively. Based on statistical analysis using the t-test showed that the digestibility of crude fiber and fat of imported feed was significantly different (P <0.05) compared to local feed. This might be due to higher content of the crude fat and crude fiber of imported feed than those of local feed. Keywords: Digestibility, fat, crude fiber Racing horses, local feed, imported feed.
