Abstract

This study aims to examine the contribution of Aisyah binti Abu Bakar to the tradition of Qur’anic interpretation, particularly in relation to Surah an-Nisa’. This topic is important to demonstrate that women have played a significant role in the formation of Islamic intellectual traditions since the early period of Islam. This research employs a qualitative approach using a library research method by examining exegetical narrations attributed to Aisyah in Tafsir Ibn Kathir by Ibn Kathir. The data were collected through documentation techniques and analyzed using descriptive-analytical methods to identify the forms of Aisyah’s contributions in interpreting the verses of Surah an-Nisa’. The findings reveal that Aisyah made a significant contribution to the interpretation of Surah an-Nisa’. The narrations attributed to her demonstrate several important roles, including as a transmitter of exegetical narrations, as a source of information regarding the circumstances of revelation (asbāb al-nuzūl), and as an authoritative reference in understanding legal and social issues related to the verses of the surah. These findings indicate that women’s scholarly authority has been present in the tradition of Qur’anic exegesis since the early Islamic period and has contributed to enriching the intellectual heritage of Qur’anic interpretation. Therefore, this study highlights the importance of women’s roles in the historical development of tafsir and opens opportunities for further research on the contributions of female companions in Islamic scholarly traditions.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the meanings of Qur’anic verses contained in Ratib al-Haddad and to examine how these verses are understood and internalized by students at Daarul Ishlah Asy-Syafi’iyyah Islamic Boarding School. This research employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive-analytical method within the framework of living Qur’an studies. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The findings reveal that the practice of reciting Ratib al-Haddad has become a well-established spiritual tradition; however, students’ understanding of the Qur’anic meanings remains limited, resulting in predominantly ritualistic practices. The analysis demonstrates that the verses encompass theological, psychospiritual, and ethical-practical dimensions that have the potential to shape students’ religious consciousness in an integrative manner. This study highlights that Ratib al-Haddad functions not only as a devotional practice but also as a transformative Qur’anic educational instrument. Therefore, integrating devotional practices with thematic Qur’anic exegesis is essential to optimize the internalization of Qur’anic values in students’ daily lives.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of Tafsir al-Jalalain learning methods and to analyze its exegetical and functional reception at As-Syifa’ Ul Islamiyah Islamic Boarding School. This research employs a qualitative approach with a field research design. Data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using descriptive-analytical techniques, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that the learning process integrates three main methods—bandongan, sorogan, and musyawarah—which complement each other in developing students’ comprehensive understanding. The exegetical reception of students tends to be textual-linguistic and authoritative, while its functional reception is reflected in its role as a moral guideline, character-building tool, and a symbol of the continuity of Islamic scholarly tradition. This study highlights that the integration of classical learning methods effectively connects cognitive, affective, and practical dimensions simultaneously. Therefore, strengthening integrative tradition-based learning models is essential to maintain the relevance of Islamic boarding school education in the contemporary era.

Abstract

This article analyzes the practice of Qur’an Journaling on the @thequranjournal.id Instagram account to examine its  implementation and the forms of audience reception toward this practice. Utilizing a descriptive method, this study aims to analyze audience reception toward Qur’an Journaling. The result of this study indicate that the @thequranjournal.id utilizes Instagram as an interactive da’wah instrument that encourages active involvement of follower in the tadabbur (reflection) process. Reception of the Quran in this practice manifests in two layers: the surface structure, as a functional-instructional instrument through the provision of classes, communities, and journaling templates and the deep structure, embodied in exegesis (reflective interpretation of verses) and aesthetics (visual expression and creativity in journals). This study demonstrates a paradigm shift in Muslim interaction with the Quran -from a passive-textual pattern (reading and memorization) to an active-productive pattern (reflection, documentation, and visualization) in the digital era. The Qur’an Journaling phenomenon demonstrates the transformation of digital media function into a performative space, positioning journaling as a contemporary spiritual ritual that integrates aesthetics symbols and decorations for personalizing meaning to address modern life’s challenges.

Abstract

Debt transactions constitute an important aspect of muamalah with social and ethical implications. The Qur’an addresses this issue in QS. Al-Baqarah: 282–283, which regulates debt transactions in detail. However, existing studies tend to emphasize legal and procedural aspects, with limited attention to their ethical dimensions. This study aims to analyze the ethical values of debt transactions in the Qur’an using a thematic (maudhu’i) tafsir approach. It employs a qualitative library research method. The analysis is conducted through stages of thematic interpretation, including determining the theme, collecting related verses, analyzing the context of the verses (asbāb al-nuzūl and munāsabah), and examining the interpretations of mufasirs. The findings reveal that these verses highlight not only procedural aspects, such as documentation and witnesses, but also ethical principles, including justice, trustworthiness, responsibility, and protection of vulnerable parties. This study offers an ethical reading of debt transactions, which have been predominantly understood in legal terms, thereby emphasizing their foundation in social justice within the Qur’anic framework.

Abstract

Riba is a fundamental concept in Islamic muamalah that is explicitly prohibited in the Qur’an, yet it continues to generate interpretive debates within the context of modern economic practices. This study aims to reconstruct the meaning of riba in the Qur’an and to analyze the challenges of its interpretation in contemporary economic systems. This research employs a qualitative method using a library research approach with thematic (maudhu’i) tafsir. The study focuses on Qur’anic verses related to riba, particularly in Surah Al-Baqarah, Ali Imran, An-Nisa, and Ar-Rum, as interpreted by classical and contemporary exegetes. The findings indicate that riba in the Qur’an is not merely understood as an additional charge in debt transactions, but rather as an exploitative economic practice that contradicts the principles of justice and social welfare. This reconstruction highlights that the prohibition of riba is closely related to ethical and socio-economic dimensions, not solely formalistic legal aspects. Therefore, a contextual understanding of riba is necessary to address the complexities of modern economic systems.

Abstract

Rain is one of the kauniyah signs that represents the relationship between revelation, cosmic order, and the sustainability of life. This study aims to analyze the concept of rain in the Qur’an through a thematic (maudhu‘i) exegesis approach while formulating an integrative model between Qur’anic interpretation and science in understanding hydrological phenomena. This research employs a qualitative-descriptive method based on library research by examining Qur’anic verses related to rain, water, wind, and clouds, particularly QS. al-Anbiyā’:30, QS. al-Mu’minūn:18, and QS. ar-Rūm:48, through classical and contemporary exegesis as well as modern hydrological literature. The findings reveal that the Qur’an not only views rain as divine mercy but also contains principles of order, balance, and ecological cycles that conceptually correspond to the scientific mechanisms of evaporation, condensation, and precipitation. The novelty of this study lies in the formulation of an integrative tafsir-hydrology model based on three epistemic dimensions: the theological dimension (rain as divine mercy), the cosmological dimension (rain as a natural causal system), and the ecological dimension (rain as a foundation for environmental conservation ethics). This model goes beyond previous descriptive-integrative approaches that mainly emphasize the compatibility between Qur’anic verses and scientific facts. Therefore, this study contributes to strengthening the epistemological dialogue between revelation and science while offering a new conceptual framework for the development of scientific exegesis and Islamic environmental ethics.

Abstract

online marketplace platforms that facilitate faster and more efficient economic transactions. However, the emergence of digital marketplaces also raises issues related to the legality of transactions, transparency, and ethical standards from an Islamic perspective. This study aims to analyze digital marketplace practices through a thematic interpretation (al-tafsīr al-mawḍū‘ī) of Qur’anic verses related to mu‘āmalah and to examine their relevance within the framework of maqāṣid al-syarī‘ah.This research employs a qualitative approach using library research methods. Primary sources include the Qur’an and classical as well as contemporary tafsir works, while secondary sources consist of books, journal articles, and previous studies related to digital marketplaces and Islamic economics. The study focuses on the analysis of QS. al-Baqarah: 275, QS. an-Nisā’: 29, and QS. al-Baqarah: 282.The findings indicate that digital marketplaces can be considered compatible with Islamic principles when they uphold lawful transactions, mutual consent, transparency, and clarity of contracts, while avoiding ribā, gharar, fraud, and deceptive practices. These principles are closely related to the objectives of maqāṣid al-syarī‘ah, particularly in protecting wealth (ḥifẓ al-māl) and preventing harm in economic transactions. Therefore, integrating Qur’anic ethical values into digital marketplace systems is essential for establishing fair, transparent, and sustainable digital commerce.

Abstract

This study examines the impact of usury on PNM Mekaar's microfinance practices in Belawan through the interpretation of Surah Al-Baqarah 275–279. PNM Mekaar is a financing program for underprivileged women operating ultra-micro businesses, with a joint liability group mechanism, fixed margins or administration fees, and flexible tenors. This study used a qualitative literature review method, with data sources including literature, Quranic exegesis, journals, and official PNM reports. The results indicate that usury can have economic impacts in the form of additional burdens for customers, reduced business sustainability, and increased risk of default. Social impacts include decreased trust in institutions and potential moral conflicts, while spiritual impacts are related to violations of sharia law and the loss of the blessings of profits. The analysis of the interpretation of Surah Al-Baqarah 275–279 reaffirms the strict prohibition of usury and emphasizes fairness and transparency in transactions. PNM Mekaar, which implements interest-free principles through qard al-hasan and murabahah bil wakalah contracts, as well as alternative options such as mudharabah and musyarakah contracts, complies with Sharia principles and supports the sustainability of micro-enterprises. This implementation of Sharia financing not only avoids usury (riba) but also strengthens the economic, social, and spiritual stability of the community.
