Abstract

Social changes in the digital era trigger psychological and moral problems in students, including decreased empathy, impulsivity, and weak emotional regulation. This condition requires strengthening the Islamic Religious Education (PAI) curriculum that not only emphasizes cognitive aspects, but also fosters affective character based on the values of love in the Qur'an. This study aims to formulate a love based PAI curriculum development model using an Al-Qur'anic interpretation approach as a strategy to strengthen empathy and emotional regulation in students in the digital era. The research method uses a qualitative approach with a type of library research, which examines classical and contemporary tafsir books, educational psychology literature, and PAI curriculum policy regulations. Data collection techniques include literature documentation, thematic analysis of Al-Qur'anic verses on love, compassion, empathy, and emotional control, and a comparative study of curriculum development models. Data are analyzed through reduction, categorization, and meaning drawing, and validated using theory and source triangulation to ensure the credibility of the interpretation. The research results show that the values of love in the Quran, reflected in the concepts of mercy, compassion, kindness, and compassion, can be incorporated into an effective Islamic Religious Education curriculum designed in an integrated manner, encompassing objectives, materials, learning strategies, and evaluation. Based on the study of interpretation, this approach focuses on strengthening students' empathy, emotional awareness, and emotional regulation skills. Its implementation is carried out through reflective, dialogical learning, and the provision of role models relevant to the dynamics of student development in the digital era.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the meaning of tawakal in the story of Prophet Ismail as described in Surah Ash-Shaffat verses 102–107 and to examine its relevance to modern human life. Through a thematic interpretation (tafsir maudhu‘i) and a comparative analysis between classical and contemporary interpretations, this study finds that tawakal is not merely an attitude of surrender to Allah's will, but a form of spiritual awareness that unites effort and submission. Classical exegetes such as al-Tabari, Ibn Kathir, and al-Qurtubi interpret this story as the pinnacle of obedience and total surrender of a servant to Allah's commands. Meanwhile, contemporary exegetes such as Quraish Shihab and Sayyid Quthb emphasize the reflective and psychological dimensions, that tawakal is a spiritual force that fosters inner peace amid the pressures of modern life. Research findings indicate that the value of tawakal has profound significance as a moral principle, social ethic, and spiritual therapy capable of restoring balance between rationality and faith in facing the existential crises of modern humanity.

Abstract

Repentance is an important teaching in Islam, serving as a means of cleansing oneself from sin and as a form of a Muslim's devotion to Allah SWT. The hadiths of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) explicitly encourage Muslims to constantly repent, regardless of the magnitude of the sin committed. This article aims to examine the concept of repentance in the hadiths of the Prophet (peace be upon him) and analyze its implementation in the lives of Muslim communities in the modern era. This research uses a descriptive-qualitative method with a library research approach to thematic hadiths on repentance relevant to contemporary issues. The results show that repentance, from the perspective of the hadith, encompasses three main elements: regret for sin, cessation of sinful behavior, and a strong commitment not to repeat it. Implementation of the value of repentance in the modern era can be realized through self-control in the use of technology, increased spiritual awareness, and the development of ethical social behavior amidst challenges such as pornography, promiscuity, neglect of worship, backbiting, and slander. This study concludes that the teaching of repentance.

Abstract

This study examines the strategic integration of Qur’anic values in contemporary Islamic education amid the dynamics of the disruption era, characterized by digital transformation, socio-cultural change, and shifts in knowledge paradigms. The urgency of internalizing Qur’anic values has intensified in response to growing challenges faced by students, including moral ambiguity, information overload, and declining spiritual awareness. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach based on a literature review, this study analyzes the relevance and implementation strategies of Qur’anic values within modern educational contexts. The findings indicate that core Qur’anic values—such as tawḥīd, integrity, compassion, justice, and social responsibility—serve as fundamental ethical foundations for developing students with holistic competencies. The study further reveals that effective implementation of these values requires transformative pedagogical innovations, including value-based learning, the integration of digital ethics, character-oriented curriculum design, and synergistic collaboration among teachers, families, and educational institutions. Moreover, Qur’an-based digital literacy is identified as a crucial preventive and constructive strategy for addressing digital risks while maximizing technological opportunities in Islamic education. This study concludes that the integration of Qur’anic values is not only relevant but essential for fostering resilient, ethical, and spiritually grounded students capable of navigating the complexities of contemporary life, thereby contributing to the development of holistic and sustainable Islamic education.

Abstract

The practice of the concept of brotherhood has recently been challenged by exclusive behavior. Brotherhood in its various forms, such as brotherhood based on shared beliefs, national brotherhood, and human brotherhood, is difficult to achieve because of this exclusivity. Brotherhood in the Qur'an has many contexts and scopes, namely brotherhood because of blood relations, kinship, religion, profession, and humanity. All of these contexts and scopes are beautifully intertwined. What is destructive is excessive pride in lineage, wealth, and territory, as well as unfairness and disrespect for human dignity due to differences in skin color and class. In this regard, this article examines the concept of brotherhood in the Qur'an, which is specifically explained in QS. Al-Hujurat: 10 and 13, as well as QS. Ali Imran: 103. In discussing these verses on brotherhood, the author uses a comparative method of interpretation al-Baghawi and al-Mizan. The reason for choosing these two interpretations is primarily to seek insights from classical and contemporary interpretations, as well as to capture two traditions of interpretation from different schools of thought. Based on the study of these two interpretations, it was found that in establishing and maintaining brotherhood, it is necessary to have mutual respect and fairness towards one another. There should be no sense of superiority, nor excessive pride in oneself, lineage, wealth, or race. The absence of fairness and mutual respect.

Abstract

resilience through a thematic tafsir approach. The study aims to formulate a conceptual model of patience that goes beyond a purely normative ethical attitude and functions as an integrated mechanism of inner resilience shaping faith, psychological stability, and spiritual maturity. The primary data consist of selected Qur’anic verses, particularly QS. Al-Baqarah [2]:153 and 155, QS. Ar-Ra‘d [13]:22, QS. Al-A‘raf [7]:200, and QS. Al-Anfal [8]:46, which are analyzed through a synthetic reading of classical and contemporary Qur’anic exegesis. The findings indicate that Qur’anic patience operates in a layered and systemic manner, encompassing the strengthening of faith, Qur’an-based cognitive reframing of trials, spiritual tranquility through worship and isti‘ādhah, adaptive moral behavior, and self-transformation through life’s challenges. This model demonstrates that patience in the Qur’anic perspective is not a passive form of endurance, but an active spiritual force that enables individuals to remain resilient, adaptive, and growth-oriented amid adversity. Consequently, Qur’anic patience functions as a foundational framework of spiritual resilience that structures continuous faith development at both personal and social levels.

Abstract

The acceleration of the digital ecosystem drives an information flow that is difficult to filter and gives rise to ethical challenges for the religious academic community. Grounded in the values of the Qur’an, this study focuses on the Qur’anic character of students in three practical domains: information verification (tabayyun), ethics of speech (qaulan), and digital responsibility (amanah). The aim of the study is to examine two core questions: (1) how students apply verification before sharing information; and (2) how Qur’anic speech ethics are implemented in digital interactions—and how the dimensions of digital responsibility (permission, attribution, privacy, security) accompany them. The method used is thematic exegesis (mawḍū‘ī) to map the normative foundations of the Qur’an related to these three values, combined with a descriptive qualitative approach through in-depth interviews and light observation in the context of students’ academic/online communication. The data were analyzed thematically with validity assurance through triangulation and member checking. The findings show the emergence of growing epistemic caution—evident from efforts to delay uploading when in doubt, tracing sources, and comparing references—although consistency is not yet uniform across all channels. In the dimension of speech, the tendency to use clarificatory diction, avoid personal attacks, and include references has increased, while in the domain of amanah, the practices of asking permission and giving attribution are relatively understood, but technical aspects (account security, metadata management, privacy protection) remain weak. The practical implication is the need for operational indicators and concise Qur’an-based digital literacy SOPs at the study program level, including multisource verification protocols, data-anchored clarification formats, and responsibility checklists. Conceptually, this study enriches the literature on Qur’anic character in the platform era while also providing an evaluative baseline for strengthening a culture of academic communication that is valid, courteous, and responsible.

Abstract

This study examines the construction of Islamic inclusivism in Muhammad Sayyid Thantawi’s Tafsīr al-Wasīṭ as a response to the growing religious tensions driven by exclusivism and theological misunderstanding worldwide, including in Indonesia. The novelty of this research lies in its comprehensive analysis of a modern Qur’anic commentary rarely explored through the lens of interreligious relations, particularly regarding how Thantawi interprets verses on tolerance and religious diversity. Using a qualitative library-based approach, this study critically analyzes Thantawi’s interpretations of Qur’anic passages concerning the divine will of human diversity, freedom of religion, ethical methods of da‘wah, and the protection of non-Muslim places of worship, while comparing them with classical and modern exegetical perspectives. The findings reveal that Thantawi maintains a tafsīr bi al-ma’tsūr framework yet integrates comparative reasoning, producing an inclusivist model that upholds Islamic theological distinctiveness without embracing pluralism. The study concludes that Thantawi’s inclusivism offers significant relevance for strengthening interreligious harmony in Indonesia and contributes to expanding contemporary Qur’anic studies on Muslim–non-Muslim relations.

Abstract

The phenomenon of unfilial parents in the current context is a response to the rampant violence, exploitation, and neglect of children that is prevalent today. Focusing on the interpretation of Q.S Luqmān verse 15 using the Ma'na Cum Maghza approach, this study emphasizes criticism of deviant parental behavior and moral value conflicts within the family. The method used is descriptive qualitative with library research analysis. The data was analyzed and obtained through three stages of Ma'na Cum Maghza, namely historical meaning (Ma'na Tarikhi), socio-historical message (Maghza Tarikhi), and phenomenal significance (Maghza Mutaharrik). The findings consist of three implications. First, there is a need to reexamine the concept of a child's obedience, whereby children are not required to obey their parents absolutely, but rather to obey the values of truth. Second, the dynamic significance of the phenomenon of disobedient parents is a criticism of the culture of parental authority as something that is indisputable. Third, this verse reinforces the value of reciprocity in family relationships. These findings are important for balancing family relationships in Islamic teachings.

Abstract

Makkiyah and Madaniyah are not merely classificatory terms used to identify the chronological phases of the Qur’anic revelation in relation to social, cultural, and historical contexts. More importantly, each category embodies distinct values that may serve as normative references for responding to contemporary issues in modern society. This study employs a library research method by collecting data from relevant scholarly literature related to the topic. The data are analyzed through critical reading, systematic documentation, data processing, and descriptive-analytical approaches. The findings reveal three main points. First, the classification of Makkiyah and Madaniyah provides an analytical framework for understanding the socio-historical context of the Prophet Muhammad’s (peace be upon him) prophetic mission. Second, Makkiyah verses function as universal ethical foundations, while Madaniyah verses serve as regulatory and contextual guidelines aimed at revitalizing the Qur’an’s ethical objectives across time. Third, Makkiyah and Madaniyah can be employed as a methodological framework for addressing contemporary issues in a manner that is just, rational, and consistent with the principles of maqāṣid al-syarī‘ah.
