Abstract

Religious pluralism is a contemporary issue that continues to be debated, especially in Islamic discourse, because it is often perceived as contradictory to the teachings of the Qur'an. However, the Qur'an substantively contains values of diversity, tolerance, and social justice that align with the principles of pluralism. This article aims to analyze Qur'anic terms that represent the values of religious pluralism and examine their implications from an Islamic educational perspective. This research uses a qualitative method with a content analysis model through library research. The approach used is interdisciplinary, integrating thematic interpretations of the Qur'an with Islamic educational science. The results show that although the term pluralism is not explicitly mentioned in the Qur'an, its substance is reflected in several principles of Islamic teachings, such as tasamuh (tolerance), tawazun (balance), tawasuth (moderation), ta'adul/i'tidal (justice), and ta'awun (cooperation). These values have strategic relevance in Islamic education as a pedagogical foundation for developing students with morals, tolerance, and the ability to live harmoniously in a pluralistic society. This research has implications for strengthening the paradigm of Islamic education that emphasizes the exclusivity of faith and social inclusivity as a constructive response to the reality of religious diversity.

Abstract

This study explores the concept of Prophetic Education in the hadiths of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ as an integrative paradigm that unites knowledge (‘ilm), faith (īmān), and morality (akhlāq) within the aims of contemporary Islamic education. In Islam, education is not merely an intellectual process but also a means of spiritual purification (tazkiyah al-nafs) and moral formation (ta’dīb), as emphasized in the Prophet’s saying: “Seeking knowledge is an obligation upon every Muslim” (Ibn Mājah, no. 224). Using a qualitative-descriptive approach with thematic (maudhu‘i) analysis, this study examines educational hadiths found in the Kutub al-Sittah and supports them with secondary literature from scholars such as al-Attas (1980), Kuntowijoyo (1991), and al-Ghazālī (2000). The analysis employs a contextual hermeneutic method to interpret the normative and spiritual meanings of the hadiths in light of modern educational challenges. The findings reveal that Prophetic Education encompasses three core dimensions: (1) Knowledge (epistemological), emphasizing the acquisition and application of knowledge for goodness and wisdom; (2) Faith (theological), fostering sincerity and spiritual awareness in the learning process; and (3) Morality (ethical-social), directing knowledge toward virtuous action and human civilization. These three dimensions form a holistic unity in nurturing insān kāmil—the complete human who is intellectually enlightened, spiritually mature, and morally upright. In the context of the Fifth Industrial Revolution and the digital era, Prophetic Education offers an alternative paradigm for Islamic education to address moral degradation and the secularization of knowledge through integrative curricula, adab-based pedagogy, and teacher exemplarity as the inheritors of prophetic values. Therefore, Prophetic Education in the hadiths of the Prophet ﷺ is not only theologically grounded but also contextually relevant and practically applicable as a foundational model for holistic, ethical, and civilization-oriented Islamic education.

Abstract

Food security constitutes a fundamental pillar of national sovereignty, as it determines a nation’s capacity to ensure the welfare, stability, and independence of its people. In contemporary contexts, challenges such as climate change, rapid urbanization, economic inequality, and dependence on global markets increasingly threaten the sustainability of food systems, particularly in developing countries. Within Islamic teachings, food security is not merely an economic or technical concern but an ethical and spiritual responsibility rooted in prophetic guidance. This study examines the concept of food security from the perspective of the Prophetic Hadith of Muhammad PBUH, emphasizing its relevance to national sovereignty and social justice. Employing a qualitative library-based research method, this study analyzes selected hadiths related to agricultural productivity, equitable resource distribution, the prohibition of hoarding, environmental stewardship, and the obligation to uphold human dignity. Through thematic and normative analysis, the findings reveal that the Prophet Muhammad promoted food security as a collective responsibility involving individuals, communities, and governing authorities. The prophetic traditions underscore principles of sustainability, fairness, and social solidarity as essential foundations for resilient food systems. The study demonstrates that the Hadith provides a comprehensive ethical framework that supports national sovereignty by strengthening domestic food production, ensuring equitable access to nutritious food, and preventing structural injustice in food distribution. Therefore, integrating prophetic ethical values into contemporary food policies can enhance national resilience and sovereignty while advancing sustainable development, reaffirming the continuing relevance of the Prophetic Hadith in addressing modern food security challenges.

Abstract

This study examines the problems surrounding the registration of waqf land in Berbek District, Nganjuk Regency, through a critical analysis from the perspective of the Qur’an. The registration of waqf land functions as an instrument for legal certainty and the protection of waqf assets; however, in practice it continues to face various administrative and social obstacles. This research employs a qualitative method with a normative–empirical approach. Data were collected through interviews with officials of the Office of Religious Affairs (KUA), waqf nazhirs, and community leaders, and were supported by an analysis of waqf-related documents. The findings indicate that the main problems in waqf land registration in Berbek include the low level of legal awareness among wakifs and nazhirs, limited understanding of registration procedures, and the perception that a religious waqf pledge is sufficient without formal registration. From the Qur’anic perspective, these conditions contradict the values of trust (amānah), justice (‘adl), and the principle of documentation (al-kitābah), which aim to safeguard public interest (maṣlaḥah) and prevent disputes.

Abstract

The phenomenon of mosque ayatisation in Sumatra reflects a new trend in Islamic religious practice, representing efforts to bring Qur’anic values to life within the social sphere. This study aims to analyze the trends, motives, and impacts of ayatisation on mosque prosperity through the living Qur’an approach. Employing a qualitative method with a phenomenological framework and field research, the study was conducted in several mosques across Sumatra that have implemented ayatisation in architectural design, spatial aesthetics, and religious activities. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and visual documentation, and were thematically analyzed to reveal the religious and social implications of this practice. The findings indicate that mosque ayatisation has emerged as a form of contemporary religiosity rooted in the collective desire to visualize and internalize Qur’anic values within worship spaces. The primary motives include spiritual devotion, Islamic educational orientation, and the strengthening of communal religious identity. The positive impacts of ayatisation are evident in the increased participation of congregants, the enhancement of mosques’ social roles, and the revitalization of prosperity grounded in the values of rahmatan lil ‘alamin. This study concludes that ayatisation serves as a tangible manifestation of the living Qur’an, fostering stronger connections between the sacred text, worship spaces, and the social transformation of Muslim communities in Sumatra.

Abstract

Buying and selling activities are one aspect of muamalah which is very important in human life and receives great attention in the Qur'an and hadith. The principles of justice and honesty are the main foundation in every transaction, as illustrated in the verses which emphasize the importance of correct measures and scales, as in the words of Allah SWT: "Make measures and scales fairly, and do not harm people in their rights" (QS. Al-A'raf [7]: 85). This verse not only emphasizes the need to uphold justice in measurable transactions, but also raises the issue of interpretation regarding the status of transactions that do not use formal measures or scales, such as buying and selling jizāf. In community practice, buying and selling jizāf—that is, buying and selling goods based on estimates without measuring or weighing—has been known since the time of the Prophet Muhammad. A number of hadiths narrate the permissibility of this form of transaction in certain contexts, such as buying and selling foodstuffs or harvests that can be measured in a general sense without causing gharar (unclarity). However, differences in socio-economic contexts and modern trading systems raise a new question: to what extent can the sharia principle, which emphasizes fairness in measurement, be applied to sales without a fixed measure? From an exegetical perspective, classical commentators such as Al-Qurtubi, Ibn Kathir, and Al-Razi have differing emphases in their understanding of verses concerning measures and weights. Some emphasize moral aspects and universal justice, while others emphasize strict legal aspects regarding sales practices. Meanwhile, in the hadith literature, differences in wording and context of the narrations regarding jizāf have given rise to debates about the validity and scope of its permissibility. The hermeneutic tension between the texts of verses that demand precise measurements and the hadith that permit jizāf is an important area of research.
