The journal aims to provide a venue for language researchers to share theories, views, and research results in areas of Pragmatics, Discourse Analysis, CDA, and Interlanguage Pragmatics. The journal covers emerging issues in Pragmatics and Discourse Analysis. Preference is given to well-researched papers that expand the frontiers of theoretical or empirical knowledge in these disciplines. It is interested in harnessing top-notched research in these fields worldwide and then making them available on open access to readers. The editorial board seeks to conduct high-quality research in Pragmatics and Discourse Analysis through a thoroughly blind peer-review process.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the large number of facebook users who express their discomfort with body shape and after further review, the discomfort expressed is included in the characteristics of people who have a tendency to anorexia nervosa. This study was conducted to describe the linguistic tendency of anorexia nervosa on facebook social media users, especially on the "MinuteVideos Indonesia" account based on the characteristics of anorexia nervosa tendencies seen from the form and meaning of the language conveyed. This type of research is a qualitative research using descriptive method. The data of this study is the linguistic expressiveness of facebook users who have anorexia nervosa tendencies in comments on the "MinuteVideos Indonesia" account. Data were collected using the free-of-charge listening technique (SBLC) and note-taking techniques. The data were analyzed using the matching method and the agih method. Based on the results of the study found thirteen types of expressive speech acts used by Facebook users who have anorexia nervosa tendencies in comments on the "MinuteVideos Indonesia" account and each of these utterances has a referential meaning. The tendency of anorexia nervosa is dominantly experienced by women. However, from the data obtained there are also men who experience anorexia nervosa tendencies.

Abstract

Basically, a theater script is a disclosure of life through the form of language.  This study will look at how the Minangkabau traditional theater analyzed the frame of discourse studies and raised its moral message. The method is qualitative analysis with literature and field research. From the results of literature and field found that discourse that appears in theater scripts such as ceremonies, rituals, stories, or entertainment is an act of speech or events. As a cultural index, the language in the Minangkabau theater script also reveals the way of thinking and organizing the experience of its speakers which in certain fields appear in lexical items and as symbolic language culture indicates ethnic cultural identity.

Abstract

The meaning of homophones is a part of the vocabulary that is difficult to understand because the sound when the pronunciation is the same but the meaning is different. For example, the words to, two and too spoken by English users will sound the same. This causes missinterpretation in giving meaning. Along with that, basically advances in communication technology have made it easier for students to learn English related to the meaning of the homophone. Students can also learn this through various applications such as Facebook, Snack Video, Tik Tok as a teaching resource in exploring the meaning of homophones in English. In addition, students can also communicate in English with various countries based on this communication technology. The problem is that although advances in communication technology have provided space and opportunities for students to master English related to the meaning of homophones, there are still many students who do not understand the use of the meaning of homophones in English. The purpose of this study was to determine the extent to which students understand the meaning of the use of homophone words such as to, two and too to students in the lecture room. This research consists of three study rules. First, the rule of study uses the rules of a questionnaire to 500 students from various universities. Apart from that, the reviewer also used the rules of in-depth interview (In-Depth Interview) to 5 informants. The analysis of the study uses quantitative and qualitative rules where the reviewer will emphasize student speech and explanations supported by information from study informants. The objective of research about ability of the student university level how to read and heard the homophone word by the lecturer. From the analysis of the data, it can be concluded that the students easily understanding read the homophone and difficult the homophone, like to, two and too. The rule family institution teaching homophone English language to their children can improve about English language ability especially understanding homophone, like to, two and too. Besides that, communication technology can help the student learning English language about homophone.

Abstract

The cause of this research discussed is the many problems of interest to readers of middle eastern news on several YouTube channels. His research aims to describe the text of the Middle East conflict news study Wacana Theo Van Leeuwen Discourse. Descriptive methods are used as a type of research. The data obtained is a sentence in the main news text of the Middle East conflict on YouTube. The researcher himself performs the instrument. In the data collection technique using the recording technique, one of them is orthographic sorting power.  The results of his research are the first, in writing the comments of the audience, writing words by bringing up parties who have the authority to be involved in the news. Second, not all of Leeuwen's theories are contained in news texts. Third, Leeuwen's approach is described in the news text of the Middle East conflict based on the speech conveyed.

Abstract

The lack of understanding of cultural discourse in speech is the key to international failure success in understanding language concepts, especially for BIPA  learners in Indonesia.  This research aims to reveal the importance of understanding the concepts of speech that must be considered in communicating. The method used is qualitative descriptive. The object of this study is an international student from Taiwan named Xing-Qian, who is participating in the Indonesian program for Foreign Speakers (BIPA) at PGRI University of West Sumatra. This research is naturalistic. The data in this study is in the form of video that is the result of recording in the field directly, then using the technique of seeing the record to transcribe the research results into writing form. The results showed that the international students used a form of guidance on the instructions for begging, asking, welcoming, advising, and inviting.
