Abstract

Sinusitis is a prevalent, mostly favorable medical condition. However, in rare cases, inadequately treated sinusitis can lead to devastating and life-threatening complications, such as cavernous sinus thrombosis (CST). We present the case of a 41-year-old woman presenting with diplopia and ophthalmoplegia, ptosis, facial paresthesia, and less common facial paresis. Diagnostic imaging–including magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), magnetic resonance angiography (MRA), and digital subtraction angiography (DSA) confirmed bilateral CST secondary to untreated pansinusitis. Cultures of sinus drainage revealed uncommon pathogens: Staphylococcus epidermidis and Chryseobacterium indologenes. A multidisciplinary approach involving intravenous antibiotics, anticoagulation, and functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS) resulted in significant clinical improvement. This case highlights the critical need for accurate diagnosis, timely and prudent intervention, and enhanced public health education to prevent potentially life-threatening complications of untreated sinusitis. Moreover, it contributes novel insights into the atypical microbiological profile and neurological manifestations of CST.

Abstract

This study aims to determine and analyse the effect of numeracy skills in solving mathematical problems on the learning achievement of students in the Mathematics Education Study Programme, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Makassar State University. Numeracy skills are essential competencies for prospective mathematics teachers to be able to apply mathematical concepts in various contexts. This study employs a quantitative approach using the ex post facto method. The research population consists of all active students from the 2021 and 2022 cohorts of the Mathematics Education Program at UNM, with a sample of 85 students selected using proportional random sampling. Numeracy ability data were collected through a validated structured essay test, while academic achievement data were obtained from students' Cumulative Grade Point Average (IPK) documentation. The data analysis technique used was simple linear regression analysis after undergoing normality and linearity tests. The results of the study indicate that: (1) The average numeracy ability of students was in the adequate category; (2) The average academic achievement (IPK) of students was in the very satisfactory category; (3) There was a positive and significant influence of numeracy ability on students' academic achievement with a coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.458. This indicates that 45.8% of the variation in students' academic achievement can be explained by their numeracy skills. The remainder is influenced by other factors. The implications of this study are the importance of strengthening numeracy skills in the curriculum to improve academic achievement and graduate competencies.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of financial targets, financial stability, and ineffective supervision on financial statement fraud in manufacturing companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange for the 2020–2023 period. Financial statement fraud was measured using the Beneish M-Score, while independent variables were proxied with Return on Assets (ROA), asset change (ACHANGE), and proportion of independent board of commissioners (BDOUT). The research sample included 88 companies with a total of 352 panel data observations. Data analysis was performed using panel data regression with a random effects (REM) approach through the EViews 13 software. The results showed that financial targets played a significant role in encouraging the fraudulent practice of financial statements, while financial stability and ineffectiveness of supervision were not proven to have a strong influence. These findings confirm that the pressure to achieve profit performance is still the dominant factor in triggering fraud in Indonesia's manufacturing sector, while the effectiveness of formal supervision has not been consistent. The theoretical contribution of this research is to strengthen the pressure dimension in Fraud Hexagon Theory while weakening the empirical evidence on the opportunity dimension. The practical contribution of this research is to provide guidance for auditors, regulators, and management to improve the effectiveness of supervision through forensic audits and strengthening the competence of independent board of commissioners.

Abstract

This study examines the strategic approach to improve SATU Dental's competitive position as the largest mid-market dental clinic operator in Indonesia. It aims to understand the effects of regional demographics, competition, and patient behavior on clinic performance and propose strategic initiatives to enhance competitiveness. The research combines quantitative and qualitative methods. The quantitative part analyzes revenue, patient volume, and growth across nine areas, while the qualitative part involves interviews with internal stakeholders. Data were analyzed using VRIO, PESTEL, Porter's Five Forces, and SWOT/TOWS frameworks. Results show regional performance differences. Bogor and East Jakarta have high growth due to middle-class demographics and moderate competition; North and Central Jakarta have strong revenues but slow growth from mature patient bases. Depok and Tangerang show low performance due to price sensitivity and limited accessibility. Qualitative analysis highlighted four themes: strategic alignment, financial management, operational contingencies, and clinical practice. VRIO identifies brand reputation and service standardization as lasting competitive advantages. PESTEL indicates a positive macro environment with middle-class growth and digitalization, tempered by exchange rate fluctuations and low-cost competition. The SWOT/TOWS analysis suggests three strategic directions: (1) Service Differentiation through Clinical Excellence and Digital Integration, (2) Human Capital and Capability Development, and (3) Operational Standardization and Performance Progress. In conclusion, SATU Dental's strategic competitiveness relies on balancing standardization with localization, targeting growth in high-potential areas, and innovating services in mature markets.

Abstract

The vitality and health of a nation’s citizens, especially its emergency and defense forces, are inseparable from national security. Regenerative and hormonal medicine is an exciting new field in performance medicine. This Phase 1 clinical trial assesses the safety and initial effectiveness of the Vinski Protocol, an innovative therapy involving umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cells (UC-MSCs) in conjunction with testosterone optimization therapy. Twenty-five healthy men, aged 25-45 years, received three intravenous infusions of UC-MSCs and weekly testosterone cypionate for 12 weeks. Primary outcomes measured safety through adverse event monitoring and clinical laboratory profiles, and secondary outcomes were serum testosterone change, VO2 max, body composition, inflammatory markers (C-reactive protein [CRP] and interleukin 6 [IL-6]), and subjective vitality. The protocol was well-tolerated with no serious adverse events; 12% of subjects reported mild fatigue. Statistically significant changes were noted in testosterone level (+215 ng/dL, p < 0.01), lean mass (+2.1 kg, p < 0.05), VO2 max (+11.8%, p < 0.05), and decreases in CRP and IL-6 (p < 0.05). Energy and mental clarity also improved in subjects. These findings provide evidence for the feasibility and potential effectiveness of the Vinski Protocol as a dual regenerative-hormonal approach to increasing individual vitality and overall health resilience.
