Abstract

Rural development plays a pivotal role in national progress, particularly in developing countries where a large proportion of the population resides in rural areas. This research paper presents a comparative analysis of rural development strategies employed by six successful nations: China, India, Japan, Iran, Turkey, and Malaysia. By examining and contrasting the approaches adopted in each country, the study identifies key strategies, challenges, and policy outcomes that have significantly contributed to the socioeconomic transformation of rural communities. The research utilizes a qualitative comparative methodology, relying on secondary data from scholarly articles, governmental reports, and international development databases. The analysis reveals that effective rural development is multifaceted, often involving integrated strategies such as agricultural modernization, infrastructure investment, decentralized governance, education and health reforms, and sustainable environmental practices. The study finds that while each country’s approach reflects its unique historical, cultural, and political context, common factors such as strong institutional frameworks, community participation, and targeted government support are consistently associated with successful outcomes. Moreover, the paper critically evaluates the role of international cooperation, innovation, and technology transfer in amplifying rural development impact. The findings offer valuable insights for policymakers, planners, and development practitioners in countries like Afghanistan that face persistent rural challenges. By learning from diverse international experiences, this research advocates for adaptive, context-sensitive policies that prioritize rural empowerment, equity, and resilience. Ultimately, the study contributes to the broader discourse on sustainable development by emphasizing the strategic importance of rural areas in achieving national development goals.

Abstract

IoT-based cardiac monitoring systems face the challenges of accuracy and convenience. The integration of real-time wearable based on AD8232 and ESP8266 has not been widely explored functionally. This research is important to develop a cheap, portable, and reliable heart monitoring solution. This research aims to design and test Heart Vest as a real-time heart monitoring system based on IoT and mobile applications. Experimental research was conducted by testing IoT devices based on AD8232 and ESP8266 sensors. Data is sent to Firebase and visualised through an Android application. Tests of sensor accuracy, data synchronisation, and BPM status classification are carried out to ensure system reliability. The test results show that the AD8232 sensor has an average accuracy of 97.8% (2.20% error). Data synchronisation between the Heart Vest LCD and the mobile application reached 100%. The system successfully classified the heart status (normal, alert, danger) with 100% accuracy and provided alerts via LED and buzzer. These findings demonstrate the reliability of the Heart Vest as an efficient, economical, and responsive real-time monitoring system in the context of non-clinical use. These findings strengthen the adoption of IoT wearable systems for cardiac monitoring. Further research needs clinical trials and multi-sensor integration.

Abstract

This study analyzes the capacity of the Bangkir Movable Dam as a strategic solution to control flooding downstream of the Cimanuk River in Indramayu, which often occurs due to river overflow. This quantitative study uses rainfall data over a 10-year period (2015–2024) to calculate the design flood discharge, with the Weduwen method selected as the primary reference due to its most conservative estimates. The analysis results determine the 50-year return period flood discharge (Q50) at 599.58 m³/s. Meanwhile, the total dam capacity, calculated using the Sharp-Crested Weir method, reaches 1,329.68 m³/s. The comparison shows that the existing dam capacity is significantly larger than the planned flood discharge. Thus, the Bangkir Movable Weir is considered effective and capable of controlling floods for a return period of up to 100 years, thereby reducing the risk of flooding in the Indramayu region.

Abstract

Teacher performance is a key factor in achieving quality education because teachers not only serve as instructors but also as educators, role models, and agents of change in shaping the character and competencies of students. However, optimizing teacher performance still faces challenges related to discipline, leadership, organizational culture, and work motivation. This study aims to find strategies to improve teacher performance through these factors. The research method uses a quantitative approach with path analysis and SITOREM. The research population involved 513 public elementary school teachers in Region 2 of East Jakarta with a sample of 225 teachers. The results showed that discipline (?=0.424; p=0.001), transformational leadership (?=0.134; p=0.005), organizational culture (?=0.088; p=0.001), and work motivation (?=0.087; p=0.002) have a direct and significant effect on teacher performance. In addition, discipline (?=0.110; p=0.002), transformational leadership (?=0.225; p=0.001), and organizational culture (?=0.290; p=0.001) also have a significant effect on work motivation. However, work motivation does not function effectively as an intervening variable in the indirect influence of these three factors on teacher performance. The implications of these findings emphasize the importance of strengthening discipline, transformational leadership, and organizational culture directly to improve teacher performance. More effective development strategies should focus on these factors, while work motivation plays a supporting role rather than a primary mediating role.

Abstract

This study explores the dynamics of ecological colonialism in West Kalimantan through the intersecting lenses of Michel Foucault's genealogy of power and Sean McDonagh's ecotheological discourse. Drawing upon a critical-theoretical framework, the research investigates how historical and contemporary environmental domination, often justified through state-corporate development narratives, constitutes a form of colonial violence against both nature and indigenous epistemologies. By employing Foucault's concept of power relations and discursive formations, the study deconstructs the mechanisms through which ecological control is normalized, particularly in extractive economies such as palm oil and mining. Simultaneously, McDonagh’s ecotheology offers a normative theological response that reframes the relationship between humanity, creation, and justice, providing a counter-narrative rooted in ecological ethics. The local resistance of communities in West Kalimantan is examined as a site of epistemic contestation, where indigenous cosmologies and spiritualities challenge dominant ecological paradigms. This research contributes to the broader discourse on political ecology, postcolonial theology, and environmental justice by bridging critical theory and contextual theology. It underscores the need to rethink environmental governance through plural epistemologies that honor both ecological integrity and sociocultural sovereignty.

Abstract

The dominant practice of independent notaries in Indonesia is systematically vulnerable, causing service disruptions and losses for clients when a notary is unable to perform their duties. Although a superior alternative model, namely civil partnerships (maatschap), has a legal basis, its adoption rate is very low. This failure to innovate creates a market gap that is exploited by illegal actors and erodes public trust. Therefore, through a qualitative approach with a multi-site case study design, this article aims to uncover the root causes of this paradox and formulate policy recommendations to encourage professional transformation. The overall results of the study show that strong resistance to the adoption of maatschap is caused by a complex interaction between high-risk perceptions (especially loss of autonomy), a significant deficit of trust among peers, and the pressure of individualistic professional cultural norms. Four main determinants were identified as barriers: (1) ambiguous and unsupportive regulations, creating legal uncertainty; (2) low capacity for collaboration due to difficulties in building trust and a shared vision; (3) the complexity of technology management and integration; and (4) the failure of the socialisation process in building legitimacy and instilling new norms within the professional community.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze communication patterns between Chinese and indigenous retail business operators in the Cirebon area, and how interactions can influence cooperative relationships and business sustainability. The approach used in this study is qualitative, collecting data from several retail business operators in the Cirebon area. The theories applied in this study are Cross-Cultural Communication Theory and Business Communication Theory. The results indicate that cross-cultural communication in retail business is effective despite differences in language and culture, which do not hinder business operations. Business operators from the Chinese ethnic group tend to think long-term about the business, while indigenous people tend to focus on higher education. Challenges arising from cultural and language differences include differing perceptions between the two groups and a lack of effort in building business relationships. However, both groups demonstrate positive adaptation through open communication and mutual respect for each other's cultures and languages in business. This study underscores the importance of cross-cultural awareness in strengthening ethnic cooperation in the business world, particularly in the retail sector, which relies on direct and ongoing interaction. It also highlights the need for improved communication due to the linguistic and cultural differences between the two ethnic groups.

Abstract

This study examined the prevalence of Escherichia coli bacteria producing Extended-Spectrum Beta-Lactamase (ESBL) and modeled the ingestion rate in closed-house farms in Sukabumi. The results of the Monte Carlo simulation showed a range of daily fecal exposure (EED) between 0.0016 and 0.2417 grams per day, reflecting variations in worker activity, contact type, and cleanliness of the farm environment. Factors such as ingestion rate, the weight of stool adhering to gloves, and the frequency of hand-to-mouth contact affect exposure to pathogenic microbes, with higher ingestion rates associated with increased risk. Exposure is influenced by the type of activity, duration of contact, and level of hygiene; activities such as feeding and cleaning cages have the potential to cause high contamination. Monte Carlo-based probabilistic models and bootstrapping effectively describe the distribution of exposure and account for the uncertainty in the data, providing a basis for health risk mitigation policies related to exposure to resistant E. coli. These findings are important for the development of antimicrobial resistance control policies in the livestock sector, particularly for improving biosecurity measures to reduce AMR exposure in livestock workers.
