Teaching English as a Foreign Language Overseas Journal (TEFLO) is a Journal of English Education Study Program of Universitas Kristen Indonesia Toraja (p-ISSN:2461-0240) is a scientific journal published third a year in April, August and December. It was established on 25th September 2016 for printing. TEFLO publishes articles as the results of research and scientific work either empirical or conceptual. This journal focuses on both research and conceptual articles done by any English teacher or lecturer within Indonesia or overseas countries. It allows any writer to submit up to 8-12 pages or equivalent with 2500 to 4000 words in range. It applies APA style in all articles submitted to this journal. While the scopes include English Language Teaching (ELT) in EFL or ESL context, English applied linguistics (EAL) in any form: empirical or conceptual. TEFLO focuses on and welcomes researchers in both EFL and ESL contexts to publish professional or conceptual articles, and research articles formed in a qualitative and quantitative study in the area of the following scopes: Analysis of English pieces of literature in the English Education Context Discourse Analysis in the English Education context ELT Material Development English Applied linguistics English for Specific Purposes English Language Testing and Evaluation Psycholinguistics, Sociolinguistics, and Anthropolinguistic Tourism and Local Wisdom issues

Abstract

The aim of this research is to identify the effectiveness of the Networked Type Integrative Learning Model in Listening for Class VII Students at UPT SMPN 8 Bangkala Barat, Kab. Jeneponto. The researcher was applied pre-experimental design the population is the first-grade students of UPT SMPN 8 Bangkala Barat, Kab. Jeneponto in academic year 2021/2022. In analyzing the numerical data, the writer was used SPSS for windows.  Based on the discussion above, we can conclude that There is an influence of the networked type of integrative learning model on the results of the listening ability of Class VII UPT SMPN 8 Bangkala Barat, Kab. Jeneponto. This can be seen from the research results above that the p-value from the pretest and posttest is lower than ? (0.000<0.05) and the degree of freedom is 22. The t-test value from the pretest and posttest can be concluded that there is a significant difference. This shows that the alternative hypothesis (H1) is accepted and, of course, the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected. This shows that the application of the networked type of integrative learning model to Class VII students at UPT SMPN 8 Bangkala Barat, Kab. Jeneponto can improve students' listening skills

Abstract

The objectives of the research were to examine whether the use of Match Games Improve the students’ vocabulary and to find out the strengths and the weaknesses of Match Games. The researcher was applied pre-experimental design the population is the seven grade students of SMPN 1 Hulu Sungkai in academic year 2021/2022. The total number of populations is 240 students. The researcher was used total sampling technique. relatively baseline knowledge based on their test examination average scores. The total number of samples was 30 students from class VII. In analyzing the numerical data, the writer was used SPSS for windows.  After implementing the research, the researcher concludes that the use of Matching Games in teaching English vocabulary enriches the students’ vocabulary; it is proved by the mean score of the students’ posttest. The t-test of the students’ vocabulary achievement in posttest was smaller than ? (0.000 < 0.05).  It meant that the H1 of the hypothesis was accepted

Abstract

The aim of this research is to find out the Effect of Smartphone on Students’ Speaking Skill. The research design was used pre-experimental research with one group pre-test and post-test. This research was conducted at SMP Negeri 3 Bissappu. The researcher was used total sampling technique. The researcher uses this technique because all the members of the selected had similar characteristic and the same relatively baseline knowledge based on their test examination average scores. The total number of samples was 30 students from class VII. The Speaking tests were administered in the pretest and posttest. The instrument was intended to measure the students’ enrichment of speaking. The test Speaking aspects in this research are: fluency, vocabulary, pronunciation, accuracy and comprehensibility. Based on the research findings and discussion in the previous chapter, the researcher concludes that the use of Smartphone enriches the students’ speaking skill; it is proved by the mean score of the students’ posttest. The t-test of the students’ speaking achievement in posttest was smaller than ? (0.000 < 0.05).  It meant that the H1 of the hypothesis was accepted

Abstract

The objectives of the research were to find out whether or not the use of webbing technique can improve the writing skill of second year students of SMP Negeri 8 Makassar and to know how the motivation students in writing skill through webbing technique. The writer  was applied pre experimental with one group pre-test and post-test. This research was conducted at SMP Maha Putra Makassar sub-district of Panakukang, Makassar city. In this research, the population was the eight grade students of SMP Maha Putra Makassar in academic year 2021/2022. The total numbers of population were 360 students. The researcher was used total sampling technique. The total number of sample was 40 students from class VIII-1. In analyzing the numerical data, the writer used SPSS for windows.  After conducted the research, the writer concludes that that The use of webbing in teaching writing skills enriches the students’ achievement; it is proved by the mean score of the students’ in pre-test and posttest. The mean score of the pre-test before the treatment was 61.72 and after the treatment the students gained score 74.88. The t-test of the students’ achievement in posttest was smaller than ?. The researcher found that the p-value (probability value) was lower than ? (0.00 < 0.05) and the degree of freedom was 39. The t-test value of pre-test and post-test was remarked significantly different.  It indicated that the alternative hypothesis (H1) was accepted and, of course, the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected. The use of webbing technique can improve students motivation in learning writing skills

Abstract

The objectives of the research was to see how Question Answer Relationship (QAR) strategy assisted students to improve their reading comprehension and describe the situation when Question Answer Relationship (QAR) strategy was employed in the reading class. The researcher was applied pre experimental design. The population was the Second Grade Students of SMPN ciptodadi in 2021/2022 Academic Year. The total number of population is 30 students. The researcher was used purposive sampling technique. relatively baseline knowledge based on their test examination average scores. The total number of sample was 30 students from class. In analyzing the numerical data, the writer was used SPSS for windows.  After implementing the research, the researcher concludes that The use of Question Answer Relationship (QAR) strategy in teaching reading enriches the students’ reading comprehension; it is proved by the mean score of the students’ posttest. Abstract

This study was to know the ability of students of SMP Negeri 1 Sungguminasa in mastering vocabulary by using spoof text. It was conducted at VII class of SMPN 34  Makassar academic year 2021/2022 as the subject of the study. This study is categorized as a collaborative classroom action research. The writer worked collaboratively with the English teacherin the class. The CAR was done based on Kurt Lewins’ design. The writer did two cycles in which each cycle consists of planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The data were gathered through qualitative and quantitative data. The qualitative data was gained by analyzing observation result. Then, quantitative data were obtained from the students’ writing score of pretest and posttest. The finding of this study showed that there was an improvement on the students’ ability in vocabulary. It can be seen from the mean of pretest score was 60.31. Then, the mean of posttest cycle 1 score was 66.38 and the mean of posttest cycle 2 score was 75.31. In addition, there were 4 students (9.5%) who passed Minimum Mastery Criterion – Kriteria Ketuntasan Minimal (KKM) in the pre test. Meanwhile, in the cycle 1, there were 14 students ( 33.3%) who passed Minimum Mastery Criterion – Kriteria Ketuntasan Minimal (KKM) and it gained which was in the posttest cycle 2 there were 37 students (88%) who passed Minimum Mastery Criterion –  Kriteria Ketuntasan Minimal (KKM), so the criterion of success was achieved.  Related to the results of the gained data, it can be concluded that spoof text can improve students’ ability in vocabulary.

Abstract

The objectives of the research were (1) to know the students speaking performance through memorization influence student’s language anxiety and (2) to know the student’s speaking behaviors through memorization influence student’s language anxiety. The researcher applied quasi-experimental method. There were two classes namely control and experimental group. The Population of this research were students at SMPN 22 Mesuji which consisted of 270 students. The sampling technique in this research was random sampling. The researcher chose sample by selecting the sample and took two classes from second grade at SMPN 22 Mesuji. The classes consisted of 20 students. So, the total samples of this research were 40 students. The research data were collected using test, questionnaire and analyzed by means descriptive statistic through SPSS version 16 for windows program.  The result of this research showed that (1) the students speaking performance through memorization influence student’s language anxiety. (2) the student’s speaking behaviors through memorization influence student’s language anxiety

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the use of the Total Physical response method (TPR) through tiktok as a learning media to improve students' listening skill at SMAN  18 Makassar. The research used pre-experimental research method. The population of this research was eleventh grade students of SMAN 18 Makassar at first semester academic year 2023/2024. The number of the sample were 33 students. The research collected the data by giving pre-test, treatment, and post-test. The data of this research was analyzed by SPSS 25 version. The researcher concluded that there was a significant improvement in students' listening skills by using the Total Physical Response (TPR) Method through Tiktok as a learning medium. This is supported by the results of the average scores in the pre-test and post-test. The average score on the pre-test was 55.45, while on the post-test was 84.70. The significant value in this study is 0.000 which is smaller than 0.5. This means that there is a significant improvement in students' listening skills with the Total Physical Response (TPR) Method through Tiktok as a Learning Media

Abstract

Tiwi Arisca Aguisty Lowu, 2023. Implementation of Ice Breaking in Speaking Skill at SMA Kartika XX-1 Makassar. Skripsi, English Language Education Study Program, Faculty of Education and Literature, Bosowa University (Supervised by Andi Hamzah Fansury and Rampeng). This study aimed to find out whether the implementation of Ice Breaking improve the student speaking skill. This study focused on pre-experimental research one group pre-test and post-test. The population in this study were students of class X MIPA 4 SMA Kartika XX-1 Makassar and it consist of 20 students as the population. Data obtained from writing test pre-test, treatment, post-test, and questionnaire. The results of this study used inferential analysis of the t-test by SPSS 25 version which showed a significant effect on the students? mean score speaking skill between the pretest and post-test. The mean score of the students? speaking enhanced from 40.60 in the pretest to 72.60 in the posttest. The significance value calculated 0.000 was smaller than 0.05 (P-value = 0.000 < 0.05). Thus, it can be concluded that there are significant influences of using Ice Breaking method on students’ speaking skill.

Abstract

This research aimed to know there in any significant improving using Daily Vlog on students’ speaking skill in class XI SMAN 1 Enrekang. This study focused on pre-experimental research one group pre-test and post-test. The population in this research were students of class XI SMAN 1 Enrekang. The researcher took 334 students as the population. The sampling is students of second-grade IPA 1 with totaling 23 students. Data obtained from speaking test. The result of this study used inferential analysis of the t-test by SPSS v.21, which showed a significant improving on the students’ mean score speaking skill between pre-test and post-test. The mean score of the students’ speaking enhanced from 44,26 in pre-test to 78,26 in the post-test. Thus, it can be concluded that there is significant improving Using Daily Vlog on students’ speaking skill in class XI at SMAN 1 Enrekang
