Abstract

The border area of a country is a manifestation of its sovereignty. Security in border areas becomes a challenge for every country because the border area is generally a space for the development of asymmetric warfare threats, especially in its position as the National Capital. East Kalimantan is a manifestation of Indonesia's border area that has the potential to face complex asymmetric warfare threats. This research is a qualitative study aimed at analyzing the forms of asymmetric warfare threats to East Kalimantan as a border area and the National Capital. Based on the research, it is concluded that East Kalimantan is a strategic border area with complex security risks. This area is characterized by actual and potential asymmetric warfare threats ranging from local to transnational scales, such as local conflicts, transnational crimes, and terrorist threats. Threats to East Kalimantan at least have an impact on national security, both directly and indirectly. Therefore, the threats in East Kalimantan need to be a shared concern, given that security gaps in border areas are vulnerable to being exploited by asymmetric actors to present threats.

Abstract

Papua, a resource-rich region in Indonesia, faces significant security challenges due to the presence of armed criminal groups (KKB). The eradication of KKB in this area requires advanced tools, among which sensing technology shows considerable promise. Sensing technologies, including satellites and drones, can offer precise and real-time data crucial for monitoring and responding to KKB activities. However, the effective deployment of these technologies is impeded by Papua's complex geographical terrain, extreme weather conditions, and inadequate infrastructure. This study aims to explore the potential of sensing technology in combating KKB by addressing these specific challenges and proposing strategies to optimize its use. Through a systematic literature review, the research identifies effective sensing methods and highlights the obstacles encountered in similar contexts. Findings suggest that adaptive technology development, increased resilience to weather conditions, and improvements in infrastructure are essential for maximizing the benefits of sensing technology. This research contributes to the development of effective strategies for eradicating KKB and enhancing security in Papua, emphasizing the need for coordinated efforts between government, research institutions, and the private sector to address the region's unique challenges.

Abstract

Integrated defense is a core component of Indonesia's defense and security strategy, designed to protect the country's sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national safety from both physical and non-physical threats, especially cyber threats. With the rapid technological advancements and the rise of social media, cyber threats have become a significant concern as they impact various aspects of national security. Indonesia's large population of internet and social media users heightens the urgency for strategic attention to cyber defense. The government has introduced various policies and regulations, such as those by the Ministry of Defense, to strengthen cyber security and integrate it into national defense mechanisms. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach, analyzing literature and legal frameworks to highlight the significance of integrated defense in addressing modern, asymmetric threats. In asymmetric warfare, non-military means, including cyber-attacks, are used to weaken a nation's ideological, political, economic, and social systems. The research emphasizes the need for a comprehensive and adaptive strategy, involving collaboration between the government, private sector, and civil society, to counter these complex threats. Strengthening cyber defense through education, training, and public awareness is crucial for safeguarding Indonesia's national security in the digital age.

Abstract

Immanuel Kant was a philosopher who put forward the idea of rational ethical philosophy. He is also a philosopher who succeeded in interpreting ethics in terms of moral imperatives, not only in terms of efforts to achieve happiness. He also proposed a rational transcendental philosophy as opposed to a speculative metaphysical-dogmatic philosophy. The purpose of this research study is an attempt to study the inherent structure of the mind or the inherent laws of thought. In the context of rational transcendental philosophy, Kant directed his ethical or moral philosophy to religion, even though religion was not directly used as the basis for religion. The research method used in this research is Kant analyzing the nature of human knowledge, especially in his discussion of Transcendental Analytics. Kant applied the Analytical Method by asking three basic things. The result of this research is that Kant's life as a philosopher is divided into two periods. First, the precritical period was passed by adopting the rationalistic attitude launched by Leibniz and Wolff. Second, critical period. This second period was a time when Kant gradually abandoned rationalism because he was influenced by Hume. In this second period Kant began to change the face of philosophy radically. The research conclusion is that the highest goal of Kant's ethical philosophical thought is the social goal or essential social good (summum bonum).

Abstract

The events leading to the 1994 general elections marked a major turning point in the history of South Africa. The new dispensation saw the introduction of new legislation that would see traditional leaders ‘losing’ their powers to the newly established local government structures. The government’s White Paper on Local Government 1998 offered a new vision of a post-apartheid society, embodied in the concept of developmental local government. As a result, territories previously controlled by the traditional leaders would be divided into municipalities, each governed by an elected municipal council.  This paper uses a combination of archival sources such as newspapers, minutes of the committee meetings and other written documentary and oral sources drawn from in-depth interviews with local leaders, traditional leaders, and local people from the area. It argues that the incorporation of remote traditional areas under the jurisdiction of traditional leaders in the newly formed municipalities threatened the powers of traditional leaders and complicated the jobs of newly elected councillors, as they were expected to go through izinduna for any project to be successfully launched. This was the case mainly in instances where a local traditional leader and a councillor belong to different political parties.

Abstract

This study investigated higher institution students' attitudes toward family planning methods and cohabitation in Ondo State, Nigeria. This study used a descriptive survey research design and a sample of 560 higher institution students selected through a multi-stage sampling procedure from the seven higher institutions in Ondo State, Nigeria. The instrument used for data collection was a structured questionnaire with two sub-scales titled ‘Students’ attitudes towards contraceptive use inventory’ and ‘Attitudes towards cohabitation questionnaire’ The data collected were analyzed using frequency count, percentage and correlation analysis. The study results showed a high prevalence of cohabitation among higher institution students in Ondo State with 408 (72.86%) of the 560 respondents engaging in cohabitation. Also, significant relationships existed between attitudes towards the use of family planning methods and cohabitation among higher institution students (r= 0.479, P< 0.05). Based on the findings, it was concluded that a highly prevalent level of cohabitation exists among students of higher institutions and a positive relationship existed between the use of family planning methods and cohabitation among the students. Therefore, it was recommended that the government and management team of each of the higher institutions should provide, within the campus, enough affordable accommodation and rules guiding visitation to opposite-sex hostels.

Abstract

This research focuses on discussing two things, namely (1) how the legal politics of regulating asset forfeiture for corruption crimes in Indonesia and (2) what are the prospects for applying the unexplained wealth order in asset forfeiture for corruption crimes in Indonesia. in this study it was found that: first, the legal politics of asset forfeiture for corruption crimes in Indonesia is still mainly oriented towards the process of asset forfeiture based on conviction, asset forfeiture can only be carried out if there is a judge's decision that is legally binding. However, if in the course of a criminal case there are difficulties in proof, the defendant dies in the judicial process, and after a court decision with permanent legal force it is known that there are assets or assets owned by the perpetrator that are the proceeds of crime, a civil lawsuit can be filed. however, it is different from the concept of unexplained wealth contained in the Criminal Asset Forfeiture Bill which has a broader dimension of civil filing.  And the filing of a civil lawsuit is not an alternative to the criminal justice process. Asset forfeiture lawsuits through the criminal process can be filed before, during and after criminal judgements, in order to avoid obfuscation and the disappearance and conversion of assets resulting from corruption crimes. Secondly, the prospect of implementing unexplained wealth in Indonesia has existed through the establishment and drafting of the Criminal Asset Forfeiture Bill. However, this bill is not equipped with the obligation to reverse the burden of proof, which is identical to the proof of ownership of assets contained in the Anti-Corruption Law. In the future, it is necessary to equalise the reversal of the burden of proof that should be carried out by the owner of the asset to facilitate the proof process and assist the legal apparatus.

Abstract

Reading comprehension skills in EFL is vital for university students. Particularly, being aware of the writer’s intention by means of discourse patters allows students to interact with the written text. Therefore, this research paper examines the implementation of a Discourse Analysis perspective in an Intermediate general EFL lesson aimed to enhance both critical thinking and reading skills by identifying the use of language patterns in written texts. 20 students form an Upper-Intermediate English course that studies a BA in English at a public University situated in the center of the state of Veracruz Mexico were the participants. Qualitative classroom research approach was chosen to implement a didactic intervention aimed at enhancing students communicative and reflective skills on the impact that social media has had on their lives. Results revealed that students were able to identify the meaning, and the relationship discourse markers establish between the written ideas and the meaning the writer wants to transmit. Particularly, students were able to reflect on the implications of social media use on communication, information access, marketing, and self-perception of its users. The didactic implications of the lesson focused on discourse patterns use indicate that such teaching perspective can significantly improve students’ critical thinking and communicative abilities. Therefore, it can be considered this lesson as an innovative proposal for enhancing the development of communicative skills in EFL students.

Abstract

The development of information technology has made it easy to access all information according to certain interests and purposes, including bringing a tendency to plagiarism. In the world of education, plagiarism can occur starting from various levels of education, including at the university level. Plagiarism at the university level carried out by various circles can be categorized into plagiarism carried out intentionally or unintentionally both on all or part of the work of others without including adequate reference sources in order to achieve certain goals or targets. The impact of plagiarism can occur in three aspects, namely, the impact on the perpetrators of plagiarism, especially the losses that will be felt in the future, the development of science that will be hampered, and the future of educational institutions in Indonesia related to public trust and the quality and value of its usefulness which results in a decrease in the quality of human resources in an effort to advance the nation and state.

Abstract

Teachers and prospective teachers are required to carry out learning to master and continue to develop Pedagogical Content Knowledge (PCK) competencies, even now they are required to master technology and then PCK competencies are developed into Technology Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK). A mathematics teacher must of course master mathematical skills because this is the main asset for teaching the material. This research aims to analyze the perceptions of in-service PPG participants regarding the professionalism of mathematics teachers based on the TPACK framework. This research is a qualitative research. The subjects of this research were 7 prospective mathematics teachers from 30 participants, where the sample was taken by sampling, namely by taking participants from vocational school teachers on the grounds that participants who taught vocational schools had challenges where the students' orientation was ready to work so they were less enthusiastic about mathematics lessons. The research data is in the form of findings from an analysis of prospective teachers' mathematical ability profiles. It is hoped that these findings can be used as a basis for further theory.
