Abstract

PT. Berau Coal is one of the mining companies in Indonesia that focuses on coal mining and sales. This research was carried out on the haul road at Site Gurimbang Mine Operation, where the condition of the haul road is currently undulating and located above a swamp area. This condition reduces the speed of HD 785, resulting in the unit's productivity not achieving the company's target. The effort to improve the condition of the haul road is by using geotextile as a method of strengthening the haul road. The aim of this research is to determine the changes in soil density and soil bearing capacity after the geotextile reinforcement and to identify its impact on HD 785 productivity. The research was conducted by analyzing and processing data from the results of the DCP in-situ test to determine the soil density and soil bearing capacity in the initial and post-geotextile installation conditions. Actual field data collection in the form of HD 785 cycle time and speed data was used to evaluate the unit's productivity before and after geotextile installation. The results indicated that the utilizing geotextile can increase the soil density and soil bearing capacity to meet the CBR standards and soil bearing capacity for HD 785 units. The use of geotextile also increased the speed of HD 785 by 3 km/hour, both during load and empty travel, resulting in an increase in HD 785 productivity by 26% from the initial 43,821.63 bcm/month to 55,375.62 bcm/month.

Abstract

The limited availability of clean water is a problem that often occurs lately. Water use continues to increase due to population growth and technological developments. The availability of abundant rainwater and the application of a rainwater harvesting system are alternatives for water fulfillment as water supplies are limited. Rainwater harvesting system performance simulation modeling is essential in deciding the suitability of rainwater harvesting systems. In this study, the rainwater harvesting system simulation modeling was carried out using the Yield Before Spillage (YBS) algorithm in 3 cities in Indonesia (Palembang City, Bogor City, and Mataram City). This assessment considers 5 combinations of demand, 5 combinations of catchment area, 5 tank capacities, and 3 applicable water rates, resulting in 1,875 different value configurations. The performance and potential assessment of the rainwater harvesting system are determined by Water Saving Efficiency and Timetric Reliability, while the financial assessment is determined using the payback period and benefit-cost ratio. Benefits are derived from the potential for water savings with a rainwater harvesting system which is converted into financial savings according to the prevailing water rates and costs are determined based on the initial installation costs of the rainwater harvesting system. The results of this study indicate that the city of Bogor with an average rainfall of 3805.95 mm/year has the highest WSE rate of 100% and the fastest payback period is 4 years. Palembang City with an average rainfall of 2551.57 mm has the highest WSE rate of 99,273% and the fastest payback period is 5.42 years. Mataram, with an average rainfall of 1661.79 mm, has the highest WSE rate of 91.752% and the fastest payback period is 8.17 years. Topographical conditions and rainfall greatly affect the performance of the rainwater harvesting system.

Abstract

Frequent droughts cause forest and land fires during the long dry season. Therefore, it is necessary to overcome the problem of drought. However, currently, information about drought is still lacking even though it is very much needed. This is the background for researching the analysis of the drought index. This study will analyze spatially and temporally the drought that occurred in Ogan Komering Ilir Regency. Due to the limited data from the observation station, data from the Climate Forecast System Reanalysis (CFSR) was used and calculated using the Keetch Byram Drought Index (KBDI) method, then visualized using the Geographic Information System (GIS) application to map the distribution of drought index, hotspot distribution, and land cover. Based on this analysis, it can be seen that in Ogan Komering Ilir Regency, extreme drought often occurs in September in areas dominated by shrubs and dry forests. After being corrected, the distribution of the drought index, the distribution of hotspots, and land cover showed a strong correlation.

Abstract

Steady and stable roads are needed to distribute goods and services smoothly. It is necessary to check the performance of the road network on a regular basis for planning effective and efficient road improvements. The level of road flatness (International Roughness Index, IRI) is one of the service factors/functional performance of a pavement that greatly influences the driver's comfort (riding quality). One of the smartphone applications to get road IRI scores is Roadbump Pro. The results of the assessment of the Kayuagung-Pedamaran Timur (Jalan Sebuku) road using IRI based on the Roadbump Pro application, mostly include unstable roads, and road improvement efforts that must be carried out are road improvements. Meanwhile, based on the type of vehicle used, the measurement of the IRI value based on the RoadBump Pro application is smaller if using an SUV vehicle than using a pickup vehicle. Abstract

Increasing road construction by adding a thick layer of asphalt on flexible pavement can cause problems, where the more viscous the asphalt layer, the higher the road will be than the houses. In addition, limited natural resources and large-scale use can damage the environmental system and make raw materials increasingly scarce, and their prices continue to increase. This research aims to show that recycled asphalt and bottom ash materials can be reused for flexible pavements. Researchers used experimental methods in the laboratory by testing using the Marshall Test. The results of this study indicate that the asphalt resistance based on the compressive strength of the asphalt mixture of recycled materials and the combination of recycled materials and bottom ash of 10% and 15% so that the values of VMA, VFA, Stability, Meltability, and MQ values obtained from the Marshall Test according to with the General Specifications of Highways of the Ministry of Public Works. It was obtained from the provisions of the physical and mechanical test results of Bottom Ash sourced from the Petra UK Road Materials Laboratory Research with the bottom ash parameter passing the sieve of 18.2%. From the results of all asphalt tests, it is known that the addition of bottom ash to asphalt recycling where the extracted material from recycled asphalt (recycled) both asphalt and the aggregate material itself cannot be reused for flexible pavement layers. This is because the condition of asphalt recycling is old, and the strength of the material itself is weak, so it cannot last long if it is reused.

Abstract

Indonesia is an earthquake-prone country. The 2018 earthquake in Palu, Sulawesi, caused significant damage or collapse of the buildings. This research is aimed to evaluate the seismic performance of a three-story office building at Tadulako University and to evaluate what caused the collapse of the building. Evaluation of seismic performance was conducted using the default plastic hinge in SAP2000. The analysis results showed that the plastic hinge occurred first at the end of the beam, followed by the plastic hinge at the end of the column. The performance point from the intersection of the capacity curve and capacity spectrum based on ATC-40 indicated that the performance level of the building was damage control, which means that the building can resist seismic force and has a low risk of human death. These results did not represent the post-earthquake condition in which the building collapsed due to failure of the beam-column joint because the shear reinforcement was not installed in the beam-column joints. Further studies are necessary in order to develop an analysis model, including the failure model of the beam-column joint.

Abstract

The geometric design of the road must comply with the requirements. Otherwise, it will affect the increasing traffic accidents. Traffic accidents are an indicator of road safety. This study aimed to determine the location of accident-prone areas (black spots) and the relationship between geometric road conditions and traffic accidents on the Garut – Tasikmalaya road section via Cilawu. The method used in this research is polynomial linear regression analysis with variable X relationship, consisting of stopping sight distance, overtaking sight distance, bend radius, and degree of curvature. The Y variable is the EAN (Equivalent Accident Number) value. The geometric road data used in this study is primary data directly taken in the field, while traffic accident data is secondary data. The analysis results by calculating the EANc value show that bends one and bends two are the locations of accident-prone areas (black spots). Except for overtaking sight distance, the relationship between road geometry for bend radii, stopping visibility, and degree of curvature to traffic accidents are closely correlated, which means it has quite an effect on accidents. Overtaking sight distance has little effect on accidents.

Abstract

A castellated beam is formed from the IWF body profile cutting pattern, and the cuts are then adjusted between the pieces and then welded to put them back together. The advantage of modifying the IWF profile into a castellated beam is that it can increase the moment of inertia of the section (Ix), and this increase affects the bending capacity of the castellated beam profile and the ability of the profile to withstand loads. However, these profile modifications have limitations that are used to minimize the occurrence of extreme failures, and one of the limitations is that the modified profile may not exceed 50% of the height increase from the initial profile height. In this study, the profile capabilities of IWF, Hexagonal Beam, and Octagonal Beam will be compared with a total of 3 models of centralized loads that can be carried. In this study, two methods will be used, namely manual calculation and finite element method. From the results of the analysis that has been carried out with both methods, it can be seen that the effect of modifying the IWF profile into hexagonal beams and octagonal beams can increase the load capacity of the profiles. However, the highest profile capability increase occurred in model 1 or IWF profile 150x75x5x7, which was modified to model 2 or hexagonal beam 220x75x5x7. The increase in the profile was 34.83% for manual method calculations and finite element method calculations, an increase of 12.15 %. The highest comparison between the manual calculation method and the finite element method occurs in the hexagonal profile beam measuring 240x75x5x7 with a difference of 21.39%. Based on the research that has been done, it can be concluded from the three profiles that it is better if the profile used is model 2.

Abstract

The 2017 Road Pavement Design Manual is a basic reference for road pavement planning in Indonesia, with the provision of a tolerance limit for the overload of 50%. However, the case of violation of the overload that occurs causes a significant increase in the damage to the road. The purpose of this research is to assess the validity of the VDF value in the 2017 MDPJ. This study uses vehicle weight data obtained from UPPKB Tanjung Balik West Sumatra by classifying vehicles, calculating each load distribution, and calculating the VDF value as a value that will be compared to the VDF that has been set in the 2017 MDPJ. Based on the analysis carried out, the VDF values for each vehicle class 6a, 6b, 7a, and 7b were 0.39, 8.17, 9.28, and 4.53, with the determination of the VDF value in the 2017 MDPJ was 0.5, 3.0, 9.8, and 36.9. From these results, it is concluded that the VDF value in vehicle class 6b does not meet the VDF value that has been set so it is necessary to make corrections to the manual.
