Abstract

One of the efforts to build character education for the students can be done through learning media. The purpose of this study was to determine the appropriateness of character-based comics as a medium of learning in the sub-material of environmental conservation. This research is a Research and Development (R&D) with the Borg and Gall model which consists of 5 stages. (1) The potential and problem stage aims to find out the problems and potential solutions to the learning problems. (2) The data collection stage is obtained from the results of observations which are the basis for product design. (3) The product design stage begins with the formulation of objectives based on the syllabus, comic format, synopsis, character selection, and book format. (4) The design validation stage involves 5 validators. (5) The design revision stage is obtained from the suggestions and feedback from the validator therefore it is feasible to use. The results of the validation of character-based comic media obtained Aiken's Vhitung Aiken’s 0,90 > Vtabel Aiken’s 0,80 with a valid category. Therefore, character-based comics in the sub-material of environmental preservation for class X SMA are appropriate to be used as learning media.

Abstract

In the era of global society, we are required to balance advances in technology and knowledge, the form of application is to develop their hard skills and soft skills through developed technology. One form of its implementation in the world of education is the use of wordwall applications in social studies to improve various thinking and mathematical abilities. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of wordwall applications on students’ learning outcome. The method used in this research is SLR (Systematic Literature Review) in which researchers collect articles related to wordwall applications with a publication period of 2021-2022, systematic abilities and social studies to be documented and reviewed as supporting data for this research. Based on this research the results are; 1) Definition of the wordwall application, purpose, and its important role in the era of global society 5.0, especially in the field of education, 2) There is evidence that there is a positive response from students in learning social studies through the wordwall application, 3) There is a significant influence on the use of the wordwall application on increasing students’ learning outcome.

Abstract

Shower gel is one of the preparations that can be used to protect the skin from Staphylococcus aureus bacterial infection. Plants that have antibacterial activity are coconut husk, the compounds contained are tannins, flavonoids, and polyphenols. Tannins have the activity of inhibiting the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. This study aims to determine the influence of Carbopol 940 variations on liquid soap preparations. Liquid soap preparations have antibacterial activity, find out which formulas have the best physical quality. Coconut husk extract was obtained by maceration method using 70% ethanol solvent. The concentration of coconut husk extract in the formula is 1.6% with a variation in the concentration of Carbopol 940 which is 0.5%, 1%, 1.5%. Physical quality examination includes organoleptic test, homogeneity test, pH test, viscosity, foam stability test, and free alkali test. Testing the antibacterial activity of liquid soap preparations using the method of diffusion of wells, the data obtained by analysis using the SPSS program. Variations in carbopol concentration 940 affect the physical quality of liquid soap preparations, the increasing concentration of carbopol affects viscosity, foam stability, and free alkali. All formulas have antibacterial activity of 21.23 (F4); 20.22 (F5); 19.37 (F6). The formula with the best physical quality and inhibitory power is formula 4 with a carbopol concentration of 940 of 0.5%.

Abstract

Excessive sun exposure is dangerous for humans because it has many detrimental effects on the eyes, immune system as well as on the skin. Sunscreen can prevent the harmful effects of UV radiation and free radicals. Flavonoid compounds in mangosteen rind have natural sunscreen activity. The purpose of this study was to determine the physical quality and stability and activity of the ethanol extract gel of mangosteen peel in vitro with variations of carbopol 940. The extract was obtained from the maceration process using 70% ethanol. The gel was formulated using 0.1% extract and 0.5% gelling agent variations; 1%; and 1.5%. Gel test parameters including organoleptic test, homogeneity, viscosity, pH, spreadability, adhesion stability test cycling test, and sunscreen gel activity test were carried out in vitro by measuring the value of Sun Protection Factor (SPF) using UV spectrophotometry. The results showed that the 0.1% mangosteen rind ethanol extract gel formulation with variations of the gelling agent carbopol 940 0.5;1 and 1.5% had good physical quality and stability as well as sunscreen activity with an SPF value of 41,099; 39,898; 39,270 with the ultra category.

Abstract

Antioxidant compounds are compounds that counteract or reduce the negative impact of oxidants, which work by donating one electron charge so that the activity of these oxidant compounds can be prevented or inhibited. The aim of this study was to determine the formula for cream variation of extract from banana peel which has the best antioxidant activity with good quality and stability of the preparation. In this study, the antioxidant cream used 3 (three) series of concentrations of the methanol extract of the skin of the plantain (Musa paradisiaca L.) fruit, namely 0.5%, 1% and 2%. The methanol extract of plantain peel was obtained by maceration method with methanol as solvent. Antioxidant cream was tested for physical quality and stability which included organoleptic test, viscosity test, pH test, homogeneity test, adhesion test, and spreadability test. The antioxidant power test was carried out using the DPPH (1,1-Diphenyl-2-Picrylhydrazyl) method using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer with a wavelength of 400-600 nm. The results of the study were further analyzed statistically using the Tukey method and one-way ANOVA. The results showed that the methanol extract of plantain peel had very strong antioxidant activity, and cream preparations could be made with various extract concentrations and the IC50 values of formula 1, formula 2 and formula 3 were 53.81 ppm, 53.29 ppm and 53.21 ppm.
