Abstract

Digital storytelling has become an increasingly common approach in English language learning because it combines technology with meaningful learning experiences that may support learners' engagement and reading comprehension. Although its use is growing, the role of code-switching as an integrated linguistic scaffolding strategy within digital story-based learning has received limited empirical attention. This study explores how sixth-grade students perceive and experience code-switching during Zoom-based English learning through interactive digital stories. A qualitative research design was employed, involving sixth-grade students at SDN Jemursari 1 who had participated in Zoom-based English classes using four familiar Indonesian folktales. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed using reflexive thematic analysis across three analytical dimensions: digital story-based learning, code-switching, and language scaffolding. The findings indicate that familiar digital stories were associated with sustained attention and engagement during online learning, and that students perceived code-switching as a purposeful pedagogical support rather than a language-learning deficiency. The contribution of this study lies in conceptualizing code-switching as a software-integrated linguistic scaffolding mechanism embedded within digital story-based learning, extending earlier perspectives that primarily framed it as a teacher-mediated classroom practice

Abstract

Pregnancy is a crucial period that requires careful planning; however, knowledge deficit regarding the Birth Planning and Complication Prevention Program (P4K) remains a major obstacle contributing to the high Maternal Mortality Rate. This knowledge deficit not only delays the early detection of complications but also triggers anxiety in third-trimester pregnant women. This scientific paper aims to provide an overview of comprehensive nursing care in addressing knowledge deficits through the innovation of educational media combining leaflets and P4K animation videos. The writing method utilizes a case study approach for nursing care of third-trimester pregnant women with problems of knowledge deficit, anxiety, and sleep pattern disturbances. The intervention was carried out over three days of home visits, including assessment phases, determination of nursing diagnoses, implementation of integrated education, and evaluation using the SOAP components. The evaluation results showed a significant increase in patient knowledge, where the average pre-test score of 40% (low category) increased to 90% (high category) in the post-test. The integration of leaflets as a retention medium and animation videos as an attention grabber (main attention grabber) is effective in improving the patient's cognition and behavior. The patient was able to complete the P4K sticker independently, understand the planned referral flow (including high-risk cases with a history of Sectio Caesarea), reduce anxiety levels, and improve sleep quality. The conclusion indicates that multisensory education based on leaflets and videos is highly effective in increasing the independence of pregnant women in planning safe deliveries. It is recommended for medical personnel to integrate this innovative educational method as a standard intervention in preventive efforts to reduce delivery complications in primary healthcare facilities.

Abstract

The Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and the Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) share similar transmission routes, making coinfection with both a significant clinical problem, particularly in healthcare facilities such as community health centers, which play a crucial role in early detection. According to national epidemiological data from 2023, an estimated 6–10% of HIV patients are also infected with HCV, and this coinfection accelerates the progression of liver disease due to a decline in CD4+ lymphocyte function. This study aims to describe the characteristics of HIV patients based on HCV test results at Community Health Center X in Yogyakarta from April 2025 to April 2026. The study employed a descriptive quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach. The population included all HIV patients who underwent HCV testing at the facility; total sampling was used to select 84 respondents, and the data were then analyzed univariately using SPSS. The study results show that the majority of respondents were male (90.5%), aged 17–45 years, and belonged to the men who have sex with men (MSM) population group. All HIV infections occurred through sexual transmission, with no history of injection drug use or blood transfusions. Most patients (82.1%) had been on antiretroviral therapy for 1–5 years.

Abstract

Background: East Java Province is among the provinces with the highest number of stunting cases in children under five, with a prevalence of 19.2%. In Jember Regency, 6,914 children (or 4.5%) are stunted, measured based on height-for-age (H/A). Meanwhile, Panti Subdistrict ranks fourth with a prevalence of 262 children (6.8%) experiencing stunting (Jember Health Profile, 2023). Objective: To analyze the relationship between maternal age at pregnancy and the severity of stunting, classified as stunted and severely stunted, among children aged 0–59 months who have already been identified as stunted in Kemiri Village, working area of Panti Public Health Center, Jember Regency. Method: This study used a cross- sectional survey design with a population of 63. The sampling technique employed was probability sampling, specifically purposive sampling, with a total of 54 mothers who have stunted children, determined using the Slovin formula. Results: In this study, the number of early-age pregnancies was 16 (29.6%). The number of stunted toddlers in the 'short' category was 38 (70.3%), and in the 'very short' category was 16 (29.7%). Based on the Chi-Square analysis, the p-value was 0.866 > α (0.05), indicating that there is no significant relationship between early-age pregnancy and stunting incidence, which means that the null hypothesis (Ho) is accepted. Conclusion: This study shows that there is no significant relationship between early maternal age at pregnancy and stunting in children under five. This indicates that early pregnancy is not a direct contributing factor to the risk of stunting in children, and other influencing factors may be involved.

Abstract

Sleep pattern disturbances are a common issue among pregnant women, particularly in the third trimester, characterized by difficulty falling asleep, frequent nighttime awakenings, and reduced sleep quality. This condition can impact the mother's physical and psychological health as well as her comfort during pregnancy. Prenatal yoga is a non-pharmacological intervention that can serve as a supportive approach to help manage sleep pattern disturbances. The aim of this paper is to describe changes in sleep quality in two third-trimester pregnant women following the implementation of prenatal yoga as part of nursing care in Kalirejo Village, Pesawaran Regency. This professional nursing paper employs a case study approach, applying nursing care to two third-trimester pregnant women experiencing sleep pattern disturbances. Data were collected through interviews, observations, physical examinations, and documentation. Sleep quality was evaluated using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) before and after the intervention. The intervention consisted of 45-minute prenatal yoga sessions, conducted alternately in the morning and afternoon over a period of three days. Assessment results indicated that both patients experienced sleep pattern disturbances characterized by difficulty sleeping, frequent nighttime awakenings, and a sense of inadequate rest. Evaluation results showed an improvement in sleep quality scores in both cases. For Mrs. A, the PSQI score decreased from 11 pre-intervention to 5 post-intervention, while for Mrs. S, the score dropped from 12 to 4. In addition to changes in PSQI scores, both patients reported reduced frequency of nighttime awakenings, increased comfort during rest, and sounder sleep. The implementation of prenatal yoga in both cases was associated with improved sleep quality, suggesting it could be considered a supportive non-pharmacological intervention in nursing care for third-trimester pregnant women. As these findings are based on a case study involving two patients and a three-day intervention period, further evaluation with a larger sample size and a longer follow-up period is warranted.

Abstract

HIV remains a major public health concern that requires continuous monitoring. Viral load testing is an important indicator for assessing the virological condition of people living with HIV and monitoring their response to antiretroviral therapy. Describing patient characteristics based on viral load results is important to identify the distribution of viral load status among HIV patients in healthcare facilities. This study aimed to describe the characteristics of HIV patients based on viral load test results using GeneXpert at Umbulharjo 1 Public Health Center in 2025 and to determine the association between patient characteristics, including sex, age group, population group, and residence, and viral load status. This study used an observational design with a cross-sectional approach. Secondary data were obtained from HIV patient registers and GeneXpert examination reports at Umbulharjo 1 Public Health Center from January to December 2025. Of the 156 patient records initially identified, 152 met the inclusion criteria and were included as the study sample using total sampling. Univariate analysis was performed to describe the frequency and percentage distributions of patient characteristics and viral load status. Bivariate analysis was conducted to assess the association between patient characteristics and viral load status using Odds Ratios (ORs), 95% Confidence Intervals (CIs), and p-values, with a significance level of 5%. Among the 152 patients, 139 (91.4%) were male, 115 (75.7%) were aged 25–49 years, 111 (73.0%) belonged to the men who have sex with men (MSM) population group, and 86 (56.6%) resided in the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY). The examination results showed that 77 patients (50.7%) had detectable viral loads, while 75 (49.3%) had undetectable viral loads. Bivariate analysis showed no statistically significant association between sex and viral load status (p=0.412; OR=1.62; 95% CI: 0.51–5.13), age group (p=0.808), population group (p=0.349), or residence (p=0.853; OR=1.06; 95% CI: 0.59–1.91). HIV patients at Umbulharjo 1 Public Health Center in 2025 were predominantly male, aged 25–49 years, belonged to the MSM population group, and resided in the Special Region of Yogyakarta. A total of 50.7% of patients had detectable viral loads. No statistically significant association was found between sex, age group, population group, or residence and viral load status.

Abstract

According to the Indonesian Ministry of Health (2022), the prevalence of Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED) among pregnant women was 8.43%. The Jember Health Profile data for 2024 recorded 4,758 pregnant women with Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED), accounting for 14.25% of all pregnant women. Meanwhile, data from Panti Public Health Center reported 156 pregnant women with CED, or 16.05%.Objective: To determine the relationship between dietary patterns and the incidence of Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED) among pregnant women in the working area of Panti Health Center, Jember Regency. Methods: This study used a correlational analytic design with a cross-sectional approach. The population consisted of 72 pregnant women from Serut and Suci villages, selected using simple random sampling. Data collection instruments included a dietary pattern questionnaire and MUAC (Mid-Upper Arm Circumference) tape. Data were analyzed using the Chi-square test. Results: The results showed a significant association between dietary patterns and the incidence of Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED) among pregnant women in the working area of Panti Public Health Center, Jember Regency. The Chi-square test showed a statistically significant association (p<0.001), with a contingency coefficient of 0.431, indicating a moderate strength of association. Suggestion: Pregnant women should pay close attention to their daily eating habits by consuming a balanced, nutritious diet as outlined in the Indonesian ‘My Plate’ (Isi Piringku) guideline—filling half their plate with fruits and vegetables, and dividing the other half equally between carbohydrates and protein—to prevent Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED). Following this approach can help reduce risks of prolonged labor, premature birth, and adverse fetal outcomes such as miscarriage, low birth weight, and neonatal mortality.

Abstract

Consumption of high-fat meals can increase postprandial triglyceride levels, although the magnitude of the response varies among individuals. Continuous elevation of triglyceride levels may increase the risk of lipid metabolism disorders and cardiovascular diseases. This study aimed to determine the difference in triglyceride levels before and after the consumption of a high-fat meal consisting of one serving of Nasi Padang with rendang, containing approximately 8–12 g of fat, in healthy adult subjects. This study used a pre-experimental method with a one group pretest-posttest design. The sample consisted of 36 respondents selected using a purposive sampling technique. Triglyceride levels were measured before high-fat food consumption and 4 hours after consumption using the GPO-PAP method. Data were analyzed using the Shappiro-Wilk normality test and Paired t-test. The results showed that the mean triglyceride level before consumption of high-fat food was 134.58 ± 13,09 mg/dL and increased to 147.97 ± 12,56 mg/dL after 4 hours of consumption. The average increase in triglyceride levels was 13.39 mg/dL with an increase range of 5–27 mg/dL. The Paired t-test result showed a significance value of 0.000 (p<0.05), indicating that there was a significant difference in triglyceride levels before and after consumption of high-fat food among healthy adults.
