Abstract

Forests are terrestrial ecosystems that are mostly covered with trees and dominate almost the entire land surface of the earth. Forests play an important role in ecology, social, economic and environmental aspects. Forests are useful as producers of environmental goods and services. The benefits of forests as producers of goods such as wood, rattan, medicinal plants, fruit and so on are clearly visible and immediately felt. However, other benefits of forests as producers of services such as absorbing carbon, producing oxygen, regulating water management, preserving ecosystems, preventing erosion and others whose benefits can be felt but not seen sometimes receive less attention from policy makers because they are not felt directly. in economics. In fact, these indirect benefits greatly influence the quality of the environment and are very beneficial for humans and other living creatures. This article provides an overview of the indirect benefits of forests through a review of several literature. This literature review shows that the indirect benefits of forests, especially as carbon absorbers and oxygen producers, make the largest contribution to calculating the total economic value, so that policy makers need more attention in managing forests so that they remain sustainable.

Abstract

The Gambung Tea and Kina Research Center (PPTK) produces solid waste in the form of twig/branch and tea leaf waste from the pruning process of tea plants, as well as tea fluff waste from tea processing in tea factories with considerable potential. These wastes, if processed efficiently, can be a driver of circular economy activities. The high carbon content in twig, leaf, and tea fluff waste makes the waste potential to be processed into an alternative energy source in the form of fuel through a pyrolysis process. This study aims to select the most potential waste to be processed into fuel and determine the effect of pyrolysis temperature on the characteristics of the biochar produced. The results showed that tea twig and fluff waste has a higher carbon content than tea leaf waste so that it has more potential to be processed into fuel. The quality of tea twig biochar is better than tea fluff biochar because the characteristics of tea twig biochar on average meet the requirements of good biochar according to SNI 1683 2021 compared to tea fluff biochar.

Abstract

Anthropogenic carbon dioxide emissions are propelling a concerning rise in ocean acidity, posing severe threats to marine ecosystems, especially calcifying organisms like corals and mollusks. In response to this global challenge, seaweed farming has emerged as a promising remedy. Leveraging their remarkable growth rates and carbon sequestration abilities, seaweeds offer a viable solution to counteract the acidifying effects of elevated carbon dioxide levels in the oceans. Through photosynthesis, seaweeds actively absorb carbon dioxide from seawater, thereby mitigating acidity and fostering improved water quality. The potential of seaweed farms extends beyond mere carbon sequestration. These farms play a pivotal role in habitat creation, absorb nitrogen and phosphorus nutrients, and contribute to enhanced biodiversity. The cultivation of seaweed not only addresses the immediate concern of ocean acidification but also provides a holistic ecological approach with far-reaching benefits. As a sustainable and scalable strategy, seaweed farming exemplifies an innovative and multifaceted solution to the complex challenges posed by anthropogenic impacts on the oceans, underlining the importance of nature-based interventions in preserving the health and balance of marine ecosystems.

Abstract

Internet of Things (IoT) technology is often used to monitor and control electronic equipment remotely using the internet. The implementation of Internet of Things technology can be applied to home automation. The implementation of IoT in a home automation system (home automation) can be used to control home lights, home temperature, and electronic plates in the home, and it can even be used to determine the whereabouts of home occupants. In this research, we will create a home automation prototype with the Internet of Things concept, which can be built using the NodeMCU module integrated with a web application. The data communication system in home automation will communicate with the MQTT server and can send data (publish) and receive data (subscribe). The home automation system can carry out manual or scheduled monitoring and control. It can provide notifications whenever a change in the condition or status of the device is being monitored or controlled. Changes in conditions can also occur through sensor readings connected to the NodeMCU module.

Abstract

Obesity can have a negative impact on health, and chronotype, which includes an individual's preference for bedtime, wakefulness, eating, and other activities, becomes a relevant factor in this context. Chronotype was studied using the Eveningness-Morningness questionnaire developed by Horne & Ostberg (1976), in the questionnaire there were 34 multiple-choice question items and each question had a score which could later be categorized into 2, evening type and morning type. The validity and reliability of questionnaires are crucial aspects in research to ensure that the measurement instruments used are reliable and provide accurate results. Validity reflects the extent to which the questionnaire is able to precisely measure the variables desired by the researcher. Questionnaire validity tests can be performed by applying statistical methods such as Pearson Product Moment to evaluate the extent of correlation between questionnaire scores and related variables. Questionnaire validity tests can be performed by applying statistical methods such as Pearson Product Moment to evaluate the extent of correlation between questionnaire scores and related variables. The use of the Pearson product moment correlation coefficient in validity tests allows the determination of validity by involving a comparison between r count and r table, with values close to 1 indicating a higher level of validity. Reliability test using Alpha Cronbach on the Morningness Eveningness Questionnaire with the decision that the value of the Alpha Cronbach coefficient ≥ r table (0.6) indicates the reliability of the questionnaire. In conclusion, the Eveningness-Morningness questionnaire proved valid and reliable in measuring chronotype in adolescents aged 15-17 years.
