Abstract

Suffering, though undesirable, is something well known. Suffering is even an inseparable part of human life in general. Suffering due to illnesses, accidents, natural disasters, human crime, self-mistaken, war and other causes are present in various places and can happen to anybody. Including befalling the righteous. However, there are a handful of Christians who are so convinced that because they already believed in God, He must keep suffering away from their lives. Such conviction is not only they grasp for themselves but they also share it to others. Yet the facts show that it is not only those who do not believe in Jesus who experience hardship and suffering, but the ones who already believed as well. Even those who live righteous lives have no guarantee that they will escape suffering. To say that suffering is part of God's plan, some people approve, and the rest may disapprove. Those who approve that suffering is also part of God's sovereign will use Bible verses, the same as those who disapprove. So which one is true? Of course it is impossible for both to be true. Therefore through this paper, this matter will be reviewed. In writing this scientific paper, the writer used the method of literature research or literature review. The results of the author's research indicated that suffering, even though something undesirable by anyone, including believers, is part of God's will. Because only by God’s will and pemission, anything can happen.

Abstract

Abstract

This article explores how the love of Christ, as taught in the New Testament, inspired socialist attitudes and its relevance in the contemporary social and economic context. Although the term socialism is not explicitly mentioned in the Bible, the essence of socialist values such as togetherness, social justice, and equal distribution of prosperity is found in the teachings of Jesus Christ. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with a constructive theological approach. This article analyzes key New Testament texts to identify the practical implementation of these teachings in modern society. Christ's universal and inclusive love, as reflected in various Bible passages, teaches togetherness, sharing, special attention to the poor and oppressed, and opposition to economic injustice. By internalizing and applying the teachings of Christ's love, Christian communities can function as significant agents of change in efforts to create a more just and prosperous society.

Abstract

The Israeli-Palestinian conflict has had a global impact, including in Indonesia, with the emergence of the discourse of “brothers in faith” which has the potential to increase tensions. This study proposes the thesis that this discourse in the New Testament needs to be re-examined through a postcolonial perspective, because it has the potential to perpetuate colonialism based on the genetic linkage of identity. The aim is to conduct a postcolonial critique of the understanding that is too Israel-centric and to develop a more inclusive theology. Methodologically, this study uses a descriptive qualitative study and a postcolonial approach. The results of the analysis show that the historical and theological ties between Christians and Jews/Israel often lead to uncritical support for modern Israeli policies. The church needs to deconstruct exclusive understandings and develop a more balanced perspective on contemporary understandings. In conclusion, the church must shift from exclusive identity to an inclusive-humanist understanding as an agent of transformation that fights for justice for all parties. Further research is recommended to explore the practical implementation of this inclusive theology in the context of the local church.

Abstract

The background of this paper is to present thinking as an activity for interpreting the story of Job through a life in constant suffering. Thinking about suffering is not a new idea in theological circles, but it has always existed, and even suffering is considered an inseparable part of happiness. For this reason, suffering, which is often reflected in cross-cutting ways, becomes a problem when looking at different perspectives of theology, especially those that talk about suffering and hope in the case of Job's life. The story of Job offers insight that suffering is not always synonymous with punishment, but can be a test of faith or a means of spiritual growth. This message is very relevant in the modern era, especially in the face of a crisis situation such as the pandemic, where Christians are reminded to see suffering as part of the divine plan. From an academic perspective, an analysis of Job's suffering expands the discussion on the theology of retribution, by showing the relationship between God and humans as more dynamic than transactional. This understanding can encourage a more mature response of faith in facing life's challenges. The purpose of this study is to find the meaning of humanity and faith, theological retribution, and the mystery of God for human beings in the history of wisdom literature in the Books of Job and the Psalms. This research method is qualitative research with literary study. The results showed that God's justice, though seemingly unjust, is for Jacob and people today a form of God's participation with all love, which is as complete as possible by including suffering as an integral part of the self. Thus, God's wisdom as an emanation of love for every people and creation is a space of reality for people who are far from justice, prosperity, well-being, health and peace.

Abstract

Religion has an important role in the lives of Indonesian society as a social institution that functions to maintain social stability. Amidst the diversity of cultures, languages, traditions and religions, conflict and intolerance often arise as challenges to the role of religion in society. Conflict situations that occur due to differences in religious views or understanding often become obstacles to carrying out the role of religion as a social institution. This research aims to examine the concept of religious moderation as an effort to overcome social conflict and discrimination in relation to the role of religion as a social institution. Using qualitative descriptive methods and literature study techniques, this research analyzes themes related to religious moderation and the role of religion from various literary sources so that conclusions can be drawn regarding the role of religion which tries to carry out its function through religious moderation in Indonesia. The research results show that although religion, which is a community belief system, has a significant role in instilling social values, rigid traditional views often hinder inclusiveness and tolerance. This traditional view hinders the implementation of religious moderation which aims to create social harmony, so that religion as a social institution cannot carry out its role. Therefore, the concept of religious moderation needs to be developed as an implementation of the role of religion so that society can live in peace.

Church music also helps children understand the concept of faith and biblical teachings in a way that is easy to remember. This study concludes that church music has the potential to support the development of children's character according to biblical teachings, so that parents and Christian educators are encouraged to integrate it into children's education from an early age.
