Abstract

Gerakan Indonesia Tanpa Pacaran (GITP), as a da’wa movement, rises because of moral panics encouragement. It is concerned that promiscuity among youths is increasingly out of control. The Movement presenting its mission through social media is opposed by many circles. Nonetheless, it develops rapidly and obtains many followers. This research is meant to answer questions: 1) why does GITP develop rapidly although it is opposed by many circles? 2) What propaganda techniques are used by GITP so that it receives many followers? 3) How does GITP mobilize youths’ social praxis? To answer these questions, I use Fairclough’s critical discourse analysis. The research concludes that the triumph of GITP is not separated from the totality of propaganda. It uses seven propaganda techniques.  Mobilization of social praxis is done through three discourse functions namely ideational, identity, and relational function of discourse till it produces personal piety and militant community.

Abstract

This article aims to see the traditions associated with the existence of the Absolute which will give birth to a unique and distinctive ritual system in the ritual of ruwatan dreadlocks in Dieng. Perception of myths and cultural phenomena with a sublimated perspective and is an innovation for the central tradition in the Ngayogyokarto Hadiningrat Palace. There was a "movement" of the central culture that pulled over (periphery) and manifested itself into a "religious" ritual carried out by the community. The problem that arises is how the ritual tradition of ruwatan dreadlocks is interpreted as a religiosity that is not practiced in the palace, as well as what it means for the people of Dieng. Data were collected using participatory observation methods, in-depth interviews, document studies, and focus group discussions. The analysis uses techniques of deep analysis by applying the perspective rites of passage from Arnold van Gennep and Victor Turner. The result and analysis are that there is a positive compromise between the concept of holiness and more worldly concepts such as economic interests (tourism) which is a form of cultural reaggregation in Dieng. AbstractThis article aims to see the traditions associated with the existence of the Absolute which will give birth to a unique and distinctive ritual system in the ritual of ruwatan dreadlocks in Dieng. Abstract

The focus of this paper is on Josef Van Ess's The Logical Structure of Islamic Theology. An important argument regarding the thought of kalam is that it fully involves the relationship of revelation, reason, and human experience. This writing aims to answer the question whether the discipline of kalam in its logical structure is derived from Greco-Roman or archetypes from the Islamic tradition? This writing includes a qualitative research cluster involving library research, then the ma'na-cum-maghza approach through the stages of data reduction, data exposure, and drawing conclusions or verification. The result of the conclusion is that Ess's opinion always changes and improves the statement regarding the nominalistic term kalam, although according to Ess it is not impossible that the science of kalam and its spectrum such as Islamic Law technically reflects Greco-Roman rhetoric and is preserved in Islamic Tradition.

Abstract

This article aims to reveal the role of local wisdom in realizing religious tolerance in Balun, Lamongan. Interviews were conducted with village leaders, leaders and youths of three religions and community representatives, totaling 10 informants selected purposively. All interviews were recorded and then transcripts of the interview results were afforded. Data analysis employed four stages: transcription, inventory, classification, and description. This study found that the Balun community succeeded in maintaining and strengthening religious tolerance. This strength is based on several local wisdoms, for example nyadran and prayer to the deceased, which are carried out together regardless of people religious background. This inclusive activity strengthens a sense of solidarity, cohesiveness and tolerance at Balun. Local wisdom in Balun is portrayed as an interfaith meeting, conflict resolution, and fostering communal solidarity. This research contributes to the scarcity of studies that reveal the role of local wisdom in society. Similar research worth doing in order to unravel other forms of local wisdom.
