The mission of the International Journal of Literature and Language Studies (IJLLS) is to provide readers with the development of language studies in linguistics and literature. In addition to manuscripts that center on the study, we welcome manuscripts on a wide range of topics relating to the technology used for language development, cultural impact on languages, computational linguistics, and philosophy of language. IJLLS publishes scholarly conceptual, theoretical, and empirical manuscripts on the study of language and focused on literature and linguistic analysis and development. Submissions to the journal should be readable and understandable by a wide audience. Manuscripts should therefore also focus on analysis or illustration of the issues covered, rather than merely providing a mathematical or technical coverage, which would be more suitable for a specialist journal. All manuscripts are submitted and reviewed electronically. We provide our published authors with both a quality publication and the widespread readership that comes from publishing all manuscripts online within a few weeks of acceptance. This approach ensures that published works are read and cited by the widest possible audience.

Abstract

Bilingualism is one of the most significant phenomena of the modern world. In the context of globalization, migration, and intercultural communication, the ability to use two or more languages has become increasingly common. Researchers have long been interested in the impact of bilingualism on cognitive processes and language development. This article examines the role of bilingualism in shaping personality, enhancing cognitive abilities, and fostering linguistic competence. The study highlights the advantages of bilingualism in memory, attention, problem-solving, and intercultural communication.

Abstract

This paper examines how Uzbekistan’s state subsidy policies have influenced sustainable development outcomes in the banking sector over the last 5–10 years. We focus on social inclusion and SME finance, environmental and green-finance activity, and governance and risk management (ESG). Drawing on government policy documents and international reports (IMF, World Bank FSAP 2025, ADB), we synthesize evidence on directed and preferential credit, interest-compensation schemes, capital support, and concessional refinancing. Results indicate substantial gains in outreach—hundreds of thousands of borrowers supported—alongside growing momentum in green finance; however, recurring recapitalizations and pricing distortions reveal fiscal and governance trade-offs. The discussion outlines policy evolution toward more transparent, targeted, market-consistent instruments and the role of international partners in embedding ESG and accountability.

Abstract

This article, based on a theoretical analysis of scientific research and international projects conducted by numerous domestic and foreign scientists, reveals the role of information processing in developing cognitive-pragmatic competencies of future teachers. The concept of information and working with various types of information content are explored, along with the issues of protection from negative information influence and ensuring the information-psychological security of individuals. These topics have been examined in both domestic and foreign scientific works, with attention also given to the concept of “cognitive information theory”.

Abstract

This article investigates the role of slang as a functionally motivated and contextually conditioned stratum of natural language. While traditionally dismissed as a marker of informal or sub-standard speech, slang is reconsidered here as a sociolinguistically complex register that serves a range of communicative purposes, including identity construction, affective expression, in-group solidarity, and economy of discourse. Drawing on Dell Hymes’ (1972) SPEAKING model as a primary analytical framework, the article examines the situational parameters that govern slang’s distribution across formal, informal, and digitally mediated contexts. Empirical attitudinal data and corpus-based observations are used to map patterns of slang use and avoidance, with particular attention to the interplay between social relationships, communicative goals, and register choice. The article argues that a comprehensive understanding of slang requires moving beyond prescriptive judgments toward a descriptive sociopragmatic account that situates slang within the broader ecology of communicative competence.

Abstract

This article explores the linguistic, pragmatic, and structural challenges of achieving stylistic equivalence in English–Uzbek audiovisual translation (AVT), focusing on subtitling and dubbing. Translating from a low-context, analytic, Germanic language (English) into a high-context, agglutinative, Turkic language (Uzbek) creates significant structural tension. The study examines how English spatial-temporal subtitling limits encounter the heavy morphological volume of Uzbek verb complexes, forcing translators to rely on dramatic grammatical compression. Additionally, it analyzes the pragmatic constraints of adapting English conversational discourse markers and localized idiomatic expressions into Uzbek without losing narrative intent or violating cultural taboos. The paper demonstrates that stylistic equivalence in English–Uzbek AVT requires a dynamic compromise between grammatical economy, phonetic synchronization, and cultural transcreation.

Abstract

The present study examines the pragmatic features of spousal interaction in English and Uzbek family discourse. Family discourse serves as one of the primary environments where interpersonal relationships, social values, and cultural norms are constructed and maintained through language. The research focuses on speech acts, politeness strategies, implicatures, forms of address, and communicative strategies employed by spouses in everyday communication. A comparative discourse-pragmatic analysis was conducted on authentic conversational samples derived from English and Uzbek family interactions.

Abstract

The effectiveness of second language instruction largely depends on learners’ engagement and opportunities for meaningful communication. This study investigates the impact of interactive teaching methods on second language learning among secondary school students aged 12–17. A mixed-methods approach was employed involving 60 students who participated in a six-week instructional program based on role plays, group discussions, educational games, collaborative tasks, and peer-learning activities. Data were collected through classroom observations, speaking assessments, questionnaires, and learner feedback. The findings indicate that interactive teaching methods positively influence students’ communicative competence, motivation, classroom participation, and speaking confidence. The study concludes that integrating interactive activities into language instruction creates a learner-centered environment that facilitates effective language acquisition and meaningful communication.

Abstract

The rapid development of Neural Machine Translation (NMT) has significantly improved automatic translation quality for globally dominant languages. However, low-resource languages continue to face substantial challenges in achieving accurate and culturally sensitive translation. This article investigates the limitations of NMT systems in translating culturally marked lexical units and expressions from the Karakalpak language, a low-resource Turkic language spoken mainly in Uzbekistan. Special attention is given to the phenomenon of cultural untranslatability, which occurs when linguistic units contain cultural meanings, traditions, or social concepts that lack direct equivalents in target languages. The research examines how NMT systems process idioms, folklore expressions, kinship terminology, and culturally specific vocabulary in Karakalpak-English translation. The study combines linguistic analysis with examples generated through machine translation platforms to evaluate semantic loss, contextual distortion, and cultural simplification. The findings reveal that NMT systems often prioritize lexical equivalence over cultural interpretation, resulting in mistranslations or incomplete representation of cultural meaning. The article also discusses the influence of limited corpora, insufficient parallel datasets, and structural differences between Turkic and Indo-European languages on translation quality.
