Abstract

Puisi-puisi Irawan Sandhya Wiraatmaja dalam antologi Nausea Kota dalam Telepon Genggam (2020) menunjukkan jejak-jejak negativitas yang sangat jelas. Hal ini mengundang peneliti untuk merunut dan mengungkap jejak-jejak tersebut. Teori yang digunakan untuk mengkaji antologi puisi ini adalah Teori Negativitas yang dikembangkan oleh Theodor W. Adorno, sebuah teori kritis yang mengeritik kontradiksi-kontradiksi di dalam masyarakat modern, termasuk aspek-aspek keseniannya. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode pembacaan inklusio, sebuah metode tafsir yang mengkaji puisi pertama dan terakhir, dan menganggap bahwa puisi-puisi in between mendukung tema yang dikembangkan pada puisi pertama dan terakhir. Melalui teori dan metode ini, penulis mengungkap tiga hal, yakni: (1) peran penulis dan pembaca sastra; (2) manusia boneka versus keabadian; dan (3) dunia kepenyairan kita yang begitu muram. Hasil kajian ini membuktikan adanya jejak-jejak negativitas di dalam antologi puisi Nausea Kota Dalam Telepon Genggam. Irawan Sandhya Wiraatmaja adalah salah satu penyair besar Indonesia yang mengawali puisi-puisi negativitas di tanah air

Abstract

In the light of the critique of tourism for its potential harms to nature and communities, travel article might contribute to the harm in one way or another. This essay covers a study on thirty travel articles published in the “Destinations” section of The Jakarta Post from September to December 2017. The articles were analyzed for words, sentences, or passages that in one way or another represent nature. The purpose of this study was to explore and explain how travel articles represent nature and, by extension, to demonstrate how today’s travel articles might contribute to the potentially damaging impact of tourism on nature. From this study, I discovered that there are seven ways in which writers represent nature in the studied texts. These ways include representations that focus on 1) spirituality, 2) visual beauty, 3) celebration of popular culture, 4) social media presence, 5) mental rejuvenation, 6) prudent treatment of nature, and 7) concern for preservation. These seven ways of representation fall into three tendencies in the representation of nature, i.e. 1) full anthropocentrism, 2) thoughtful anthropocentrism, and 3) relative ecocentrism. The high percentage of representations of nature in the first category arguably supports the criticism of tourism. In the final analysis, I argue that travel article contributes despite relatively small to the imminent threat of tourism industry.

Abstract

Posthumanisme pembelajaran sastra alternatif, menurut hemat saya telah saatnya mewarnai jurnal-jurnal pembelajaran sastra. Selama ini, jurnal-jurnal pembelajaran sastra seolah-olah miskin gagasan, sehingga beberapa artikel kurang menyentuh novelty. Sejak tahun 2005, saya telah menulis buku berjudul Metode dan Teori Pengajaran Sastra, memuat berbagai alternatif belajar sastra. Namun, setelah berjalan 15 tahunan ini, cuitan buku ini belum banyak terasa. Para pengajar sastra belum banyak menelorkan inovasi melalui artikel-artikel jurnal.

Abstract

Resistance is often performed by marginal people as the response to the situation that is not benefitted them. Bound is a novel by Okky Madasari, which talks about marginal people’s resistance to injustice and their desperate struggle for humanity and decent life. The characters in this novel show the struggle for freedom and their resistance to the repressing power. The issue of resistance and the struggle against injustice is well explored for the readers to get the picture of what they feel and struggle for. This paper discusses the persistence of the characters’ resistance in the novel. This study aims to describe the resistance performed by some characters in the novel by applying the concept of resistance by James Scott (1985), elaborating the form of open resistance and closed resistance. This study indicates two forms of resistance in the novel, namely open resistance and closed resistance. Some characters in this novel, Cak Man, Sasana, and Jaka held an open resistance in the form of demonstration against the factory employer. Jaka, Sasana, and female workers are among the people who did resistance against the dominant group. The closed resistance is carried out by several characters in this novel, like Sasana's parents, who cried and cursed when Sasana was tortured by his friends and the perpetrators could not be brought into court because of their fathers’ position as the general and government officials.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan kemampuan menulis cerita fantasi siswa kelas VII MTs Salafiyah Siman Sekaran Lamongan. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode deskriptif kuantitatif. Jenis penelitian ini adalah Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK). Sumber data dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VII MTs Salafiyah Siman Sekaran Lamongan. Data dalam penelitian ini berupa kemampuan menulis cerita fantasi siswa kelas VII MTs Salafiyah Siman Sekaran Lamongan. Instrumen yang digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data dalam penelitian ini yaitu instrumen tes menulis. Siswa diberi kebebasan untuk menulis cerita fantasi sesuai dengan kreativitas masing-masing. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, dapat dijelaskan bahwa siswa yang mencapai ketuntasan pada prasiklus sebanyak 6 siswa (40%), siklus 1 sebanyak 11 siswa (55%), dan siklus 2 sebanyak 19 siswa (82%).

Abstract

This paper depicts the types and uses of figurative expressions in the characterization of verse-novel Home of the Brave by Katherine Applegate. The objectives of this study are, first, to identify what kinds of figurative language the author uses in the story and second, to identify the use of figurative language in the characterization. As a descriptive qualitative study, the writers applied various literary theories such as figurative language (metaphor, simile, and personification), direct characterization, and stylistics. After analyzing the data, the writer found that there are 292 figurative languages found in the verse-novel Home of the Brave, which include: 89 metaphors, 98 similes and 105 personifications. Based on the findings, personification is mostly found throughout the story and the author mostly uses natural elements as comparison. The writer found that the use of personification is suitable for delivering story from narrator’s perspective because he is an immigrant from Sudan who can hardly understand the concept of many unfamiliar things in America. By linking human nature, he describes the world he sees and personifies it. Besides, it also proves that the use of figurative language is successfully employed by the novel’s author in the portrayal of characters physically and mentally as narrated by Kek as the main character of the story, in the view of the first person.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengetahui wujud trajektori tokoh perempuan dalam novel Mentari Nur Syamsiah Bersinar karya Agnes Adhani. Pendekatan penelitian ini adalah pendekatan sosiologis. Sumber data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah novel Mentari Nur Syamsiah Bersinar karya Agnes Adhani Analisis data dilakukan adalah (1) analisis struktural aktansial, kemudian (2) analisis sosial Pierre Bourdieu ditinjau dari aspek kekerasan simbolik, dominasi maskulin, habitus, modal, ranah, dan praktik sosial, serta (3) memasukkan unsur gastronomi pada setiap aspek analisis. Hasil penelitian ini adalah trajektori tokoh utama dan usahanya untuk melepaskan diri dari dominasi maskulin.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the social moral values contained in a collection of podcast poetry for students of class XI MIPA 1 SMAN 53 East Jakarta. The approach used in this research is descriptive qualitative research. This study aims to describe the social moral values contained in a collection of podcast poetry for students of class XI MIPA 1 SMAN 53 East Jakarta. Based on the results of the analysis of 30 poems contained in the poetry collection podcast as a whole, in this study it can be concluded that the moral values contained in the poetry collection podcast for students of class XI MIPA 1 SMAN 53 East Jakarta there are 17 data on the moral values of human relations with God and 54 data on the moral value of human relations with society. Based on the discussion above, it can be concluded that podcast media can be an alternative media during a pandemic to study literary works, especially poetry.

Abstract

Literary works with historical content are literary works created by writers referring to historically valuable events, namely important human events occurred in the past. The literary works also contain historical messages, such as the heroic values. Literary learning activities to appreciate historically charged literary works containing heroic stories can be used as a way to instill heroic values ​​in students. For this reason, literary learning activities are needed that are able to correctly process the heroic values ​​contained in historical literary works so that these values ​​are able to have a strong influence on the lives of students. In this learning activity, the activities were selected from those directly and indirectly related to the activities of appreciating literature. The activities are (1) reading heroic literature and discuss it (2) write or create heroic literature in the form of poetry and short stories, (3) celebrate heroic literature by reading poetry and reading short stories, and historical literature (4) dialogue about heroic films to enhance the horizon and (5) develop an attitude of respect for heroism by appreciating heroism in everyday life as a form of appreciation. Literary learning can be used as a vehicle to instill the value of heroism by making historical literature as the topic of discussion and by processing it as activities that can be an arena for internalization and externalization. The internalization process encourages to instill the values ​​into students' personalities and externalizing processes can be made through various expressions, so that students are trained to understand the values ​​in their lives.

Abstract

Batik motif is a form of design included in the study of fine arts. Batik motifs are inspired from various things around us, such as natural events, family and social events, and literary works, either written or oral literary works. Javanese batik is closely related to the stories of the chronicle of the royal family. Batik motifs are closely related to the literary works that exist in the society as the owner of the motive. In Jambi, for example, batik motifs sanggat ship is a very famous. This motif was inspired by the existence of a ship that failed (sanggat). The educational values inspired from this motif is that in life one must be careful in determining the direction of life in order not to run aground. Chinese Lasem community has a motif called the Hong bird motif. The appearance of the motive was inspired by the myth of the Hong bird in the Chinese tradition which is a lucky bird. The Hong Bird is the king of bird and its element of fire is strongest among all beings. This bird is a symbol of immortality because of its ability to live after death. There are four animals in important Chinese mythology: dragons, turtles, kilns, and Hong birds. Among them Hong bird and dragon are frequently appear in batik motifs. The education value of these Chinese motif is the God blessing in the creatures. The study shows that artworks, literature and batik motifs, are interrelated each other. The education values emerged from this batik motif is valuable for people’s life.
