IBDA`: Jurnal Kajian Islam dan Budaya aims to build a comprehensive understanding of Islamic norms in religious texts and their realization in social life. Abstract

Pre-Islamic Arab society is known as the people who inclined towards practicing racism, feudalism and patriarchy values. The pre-Islamic period was known to the Arabs as the period of living ignorant people. However, revolutionary momentum occurred after the emergence of Islam in the desert region. Radical Islam could change the Arab social order to the point where human values almost disappeared. That was thebeginning of learning society through educational values consistently with the Islamic teachings. This article provides sufficient evidence to examine how the educational knots began to disappear in the land ofHijaz. By examining the demographics of the culture of pre-Islamic Arab society, this article also attempts to take the segmentation of society as the basis for analyzing the emergence of Islamic teachings through theestablishment of the learning societies initiated by Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H).

Abstract

Abstract: The article aims at explaining the root and the form of religious based cultural movement initiated by Jendral Sudirman Mosque (MJS) Yogyakarta. The conundrum departs from the common assumption that mosque is usually regarded as the sacred place, not as profane as cultural performance. Since 2011, the MJS has carried out various cultural activism that is unique, paradox and distinct from the common mosques which activites are generally centered on religious piety. It is in this case that this paper discusses MJS from two aspects: the history of the MJS and its cultural strategy. In its history, the MJS underwent three phases of movement. At first, the mosque was subjugated by the militant Islamic movement which aims at establishing an Islamic state. The movement, then, shifted into an educational movement of the children. And later, it changed totally into religious cultural movement. At this regard, the cultural movement carried out by the MJS reflects an effort in shifting their old identity, while at the same time they are involved in a discursive approach to respond the contemporary challenge of Islamism.

Abstract

The tradition of Maulid is an expression of excitement at the birth of Prophet Muhammad in Nusantara, it has become a hereditary tradition that is able to unite Muslim community through various instruments of the event. Amidst the disputes that have plagued the community today, be that of differences in political preferences, ethnicity, groups, or else. Indeed, discourses that motivate togetherness and unity will be very important to be explored, so that the spirit of Unity in Diversity is maintained. One of the “rituals” depicting togetherness and carrying out the spirit of cooperation, is the Lawean tradition of the Pesayangan Community which is held to celebrate the birthday of Prophet Muhammad on the 25th of Rabiul Awal every year. This tradition needs to be comprehensifely explored starting from its origins and everything lies behind it, why it is different from the traditions of maulid celebrations in other places which are usually held on around the 12th Rabiul Awal. The meaning of Lawean is also important to be revealed, as one of the rich horizon of Islam Nusantara. Tradisi Maulid merupakan ungkapan kegembiraan atas kelahiran Nabi Muhammad di Nusantara, kegiatan ini telah menjadi tradisi turun temurun yang mampu menyatukan komunitas muslim dengan berbagai instrumen di dalamnya. Di tengah masalah perselisihan yang telah menjangkiti masyarakat saat ini, baik karena perbedaan pilihan politik, etnis, kelompok, dll, tentu saja wacana yang memotivasi kebersamaan dan persatuan akan sangat penting untuk dieksplorasi, sehingga Semangat Bhinneka Tunggal Ika tetap mampu dipertahankan. Salah satu “ritual” yang menggambarkan kebersamaan dan mengusung semangat gotong royong adalah Tradisi Lawean Masyarakat Pesayangan dalam perayaan Maulid Nabi Muhammad SAW. yang diadakan pada tanggal 25 Rabiul Awal setiap tahun. Tradisi ini perlu dieksplorasi dari asal-usulnya dan segala sesuatu yang ada di belakangnya, karena tradisi maulid tersebut berbeda dari tradisi perayaan maulid di tempat lain yang biasanya diadakan di bulan Rabiul Awal pada hari ke-12. Arti tradisi Lawean bagi masyarakat Pesayangan juga penting untuk diungkapkan, sebagai salah satu kekayaan khazanah Islam Nusantara.

Abstract

As a fascinating weapon, Rencong Aceh cannot be separated from the life of Acehnese people. In order to describe the morphology of which, a qualitative method was implemented to collect the data through observation, interview and document analysis. The collected data were analyzed with descriptive analysis. The four types of Rencong Aceh – rencong meucugek, rencong meukuree, and rencong podoi or puntong – have the structure of Bismillahirrahmanirrahim entirely. Those also possess the letter of Ba. Every morphology form of Rencong Aceh is constant, either in the form of Bismillah, Bismillahirrahmanirrahim, or Ba. Philosophically, the compilation of morphology upon the weapons cannot be disconnected from the Islamic context developed within the social and culture understanding and its practice of the Acehnese people. Every beginning of an action should be initiated with the words of Bismillahirrahmanirrahim. The expression is done to get the mercy and blessing of God, particularly when the enemies attack. Sebagai senjata yang memesona, Rencong Aceh tidak dapat dipisahkan dari kehidupan masyarakat Aceh. Untuk menggambarkan morfologi, metode kualitatif diterapkan untuk mengumpulkan data melalui observasi, wawancara dan analisis dokumen. Data yang terkumpul dianalisis dengan analisis deskriptif. Empat jenis Rencong Aceh - rencong meucugek, rencong meukuree, dan rencong podoi atau puntong - memiliki struktur Bismillahirrahmanirrahim seluruhnya. Mereka juga memiliki surat Ba. Setiap bentuk morfologi Rencong Aceh adalah konstan, baik dalam bentuk Bismillâh, Bismillâhirrahmanirrahim, atau Ba. Secara filosofis, kompilasi morfologi atas senjata tidak dapat dilepaskan dari konteks Islam yang dikembangkan dalam pemahaman sosial dan budaya dan praktiknya terhadap rakyat Aceh. Setiap awal tindakan harus dimulai dengan kata-kata Bismillâhirrahmanirrahim. Ungkapan itu dilakukan untuk mendapatkan rahmat dan berkah Tuhan, terutama saat musuh menyerang.

Abstract

This study discusses form and dimensions of a text regarding multiculturalism concept in the ulama books of the 20th century, how the text was produced and consumed by the community, and the sociocultural praxis contained in it. The collected data were analyzed by using descriptive method and content analysis. The results of this study show that multiculturalism discourses written by Indonesian Ulama include: appreciation of Javanese language locality, gender equality, respect for the diversity of local economic potentials, the importance of national unity and counter to the negative stigma of Indonesian archipelago. At the level of text, multiculturalism discourses are written in the form of nadham and natsar (prose), and the language variety ​​used is Arabic pegon script. In the case of social praxis, multicultural values ​​are divided into two, namely social and religious discourse. The social discourse discusses social problems, equality, the importance of respecting differences as well as loving the motherland, while the religious discourse describes some problems developed in the society. In this case, the religious proposition is used as a basis for strengthening as well as elaborating the muticulturalism values.

Abstract

Today’s local wisdom must always be studied to explore the noble meanings contained in it. This effort is expected to be able to maintain the existence of local wisdom along with its functions in a community from the threat of the negative effects of globalization that is happening so massively. The focus of this study is: reviewing local wisdom in the jembaran tradition in Al-Falah Islamic Boarding School, Somalangu Wetan, Sumberadi, Kebumen, related to the implementation process and the noble values contained in the tradition. This research is a type of field research. Data obtained from observations, interviews, documentation studies and literature that have links with the tradition of the bridge. Then the data was analyzed using an ethnographic approach. The theory used is the theory of local wisdom and the theory of tradition. This study shows that the jembaran tradition is held on 9 th to 10 th Muharam with a series of sunnah tasu’a’ and ‘asyura’ fasting activities (9 th and 10 th Muharam), breaking fast and sahur with delicious food and nutritious, reading special prayers in congregation by being led by boarding school caregivers on the night of 10 Muharam and doing jembaran (giving breadth of sustenance) to fellow students in the form of alms for goods or food on the 10th of Muharam. This tradition aims to represent their gratitude for the blessings of Allah SWT. Jembaran tradition has noble values contained that also function to form the Islamic moral of Al-Falah santri as the executor of tradition. These noble values are teachings to 1) practice sunnah fasting; 2) grateful; 3) giving alms; 4) pray; 5) uswatun hasanah Kearifan lokal saat ini harus selalu dipelajari untuk mengeksplorasi makna mulia yang terkandung di dalamnya. Upaya ini diharapkan mampu menjaga eksistensi kearifan lokal beserta fungsinya dalam sebuah komunitas dari ancaman efek negatif globalisasi yang terjadi secara masif. Fokus penelitian ini adalah: mengkaji kearifan lokal dalam tradisi Jembaran di Pesantren Al-Falah, Somalangu Wetan, Sumberadi, Kebumen, terkait dengan proses implementasi dan nilai-nilai luhur yang terkandung dalam tradisi tersebut. Penelitian ini adalah jenis penelitian lapangan. Data diperoleh melalui observasi, wawancara, dokumentasi dan studi literatur yang memiliki hubungan dengan tradisi Jembaran. Kemudian data dianalisis menggunakan pendekatan etnografi. Teori yang digunakan adalah teori kearifan lokal dan teori tradisi. Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa tradisi Jembaran diadakan pada tanggal 9 hingga 10 Muharam dengan serangkaian sunnah tasu‘a’ dan ‘asyura’ kegiatan puasa (Muharam ke-9 dan ke-10), berbuka puasa dan sahur dengan makanan lezat dan bergizi, membaca doa khusus berjamaah yang dipimpin oleh pengasuh pesantren pada malam ke 10 Muharam dan melakukan Jembaran yaitu memberikan rezeki yang luas kepada sesama siswa dalam bentuk sedekah untuk barang atau makanan. Tradisi ini bertujuan untuk mewakili rasa terima kasih mereka atas berkah Allah SWT. Tradisi Jembaran mengandung nilai-nilai luhur yang berfungsi membentuk moral Islam santri (AlFalah) sebagai pelaksana tradisi. Nilai-nilai luhur ini adalah ajaran untuk 1) mempraktikkan puasa sunnah; 2) bersyukur; 3) memberi sedekah; 4) berdoa; dan 5) uswatun hasanah.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to uncover and identify the psychological accumulation of the sea alms ceremony at Pedalen Beach. This is based on the religious style and cultural behavior of the Javanese people who tend to cultivate between Javanese culture and religion represented in the ceremony of sea alms tradition. The subject of this study was the caretaker of the Alms Pedalen Sea shore, while the object of the research was the psychological acculturation of the community (fishermen) as individuals and groups. The results of this study indicate that, first, the acculturation process tends to occur acceptance between the two parties, secondly, the form or form of acculturation is assimilative, namely accepting the almsgiving belief system as an expression of gratitude, third, the sea alms ceremony is also perceived and believed by the community (fishermen) Pedalen Beach to strengthen his faith in the Unseen. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengungkap dan mengidentifikasi akulutrasi psikologis upacara sedekah laut di Pantai Pedalen. Hal ini didasari oleh corak keagamaan dan perilaku budaya masyarakat Jawa yang cenderung mengakulturasikan antara budaya Jawa dan agama yang terrepresentasikan dalam upacara tradisi sedekah laut. Subjek penelitian ini adalah juru kunci sedekah laut Pantai Pedalen, sedangkan objek penelitiannya adalah akulturasi psikologis masyarakat (nelayan) sebagai individu maupun kelompok. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa,pertama, proses akulturasi cenderung terjadi penerimaan antara kedua belah pihak, kedua, wujud atau bentuk akulturasinya adalah asimilatif, yakni menerima sistem keyakinan sedekah laut sebagai ungkapan syukur, ketiga, upacara sedekah laut juga dipersepsi dan diyakini oleh masyarakat (nelayan) Pantai Pedalen untuk meneguhkan keimanannya kepada Yang Gaib.

Abstract

This research aims to identify the prophetic intentions and the narration of locality in A. Mustofa Bisri’s poetry. As a Kiai-poet, the study of A. Mustofa Bisri’s poetry is important because with this study we can identify A. Mustofa Bisri’s perspective on phenomena and language. This study was based on data obtained from interviews with A. Mustofa Bisri at Islamic Boarding SchoolRaudlatut Thalibin, Leteh, Rembang, Central Java. The results of this study reveal that, first, literature (poetry) is positioned by A. Mustofa Bisri as a prophetic medium in loving the Prophet Muhammad, so that literature has the value of worship. Secondly, A. Mustofa Bisri positions pesantren as one of the aesthetic sources of poetics and his vision of local wisdom. Third, with the beauty of poetry, A. Mustofa Bisri seeks to create Islamic brotherhood(ukhuwah Islamiyah) and human brotherhood(ukhuwah basyariyah). Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengidentifikasi intensi profetik serta narasi lokalitas di dalam puisi A. Mustofa Bisri. Sebagai kiai-penyair, kajian mengenai perpuisian A. Mustofa Bisri menjadi penting untuk karena dapat mengidentifikasi sudut pandangnya terhadap fenomena dan bahasa. Kajian ini diolah berdasarkan pada data yang diperoleh dari wawancara dengan A. Mustofa Bisri di Pondok Pesantren Raudlatut Thalibin, Leteh, Rembang, Jawa Tengah. Hasil penelitian ini mengungkap bahwa, pertama, sastra (puisi) diposisikan oleh A. Mustofa Bisri sebagai wasiilah profetik (kenabian) dalam mencintai Nabi Muhammad, sehingga sastra bernilai ibadah kepada Allah, kedua, A. Mustofa Bisri memposisikan pesantren sebagai salah satu sumber estetika persajakan dan visi kearifan lokalnya, ketiga, dengan keindahan puisi, A. Mustofa Bisri berupaya menciptakan ukhuwah Islamiyah dan ukhuwah basyariyah.

Abstract

Prices of goods in Japan are relatively expensive. Meanwhile, to dispose of used or second hand goods is often difficult even people have to pay for it. The Philosophy of mottainai and osagari tradition are a solution for Japanese people to deal with, so these items are not wasteful. The aim of the study was to analyze Islamic values in the mottainai philosophy and osagari tradition in Japan. This research uses a qualitative approach. Data collection techniques are with observation and indepth interviews of 3 Japanese and 5 Indonesian people living in Japan as research informants. Secondary data were from books, journals, and articles that are relevant to the research theme. The results of this study show that in the tradition of mottainai and osagari, there are Islamic values that benefit human life and protect the environment. Islamic values include preventing wasteful goods with the principles of 3R (Re-use, Reduce, and Recycle) and osagari by giving second hand goods to those who need them. The osagari tradition is a medium of communication, helping each other, and maintaining friendship. The tradition takes place across cultures, which is carried out not only by fellow Japanese, but also Japanese with non-Japanese and even among non-Japanese people living in Japan. Harga barang di Jepang relatif mahal. Sementara itu, membuang barang bekas atau bekas seringkali sulit bahkan orang harus membayarnya. Filsafat tradisi mottainai dan osagari adalah solusi bagi orang Jepang untuk berurusan sehingga barang-barang ini tidak sia-sia. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis nilai-nilai Islam dalam filsafat mottainai dan tradisi osagari di Jepang. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif. Teknik pengumpulan data dengan observasi dan wawancara mendalam terhadap 3 orang Jepang dan 5 orang Indonesia yang tinggal di Jepang sebagai informan penelitian. Data sekunder berasal dari buku, jurnal, dan artikel yang relevan dengan tema penelitian. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa dalam tradisi mottainai dan osagari, ada nilai-nilai Islam yang bermanfaat bagi kehidupan manusia dan melindungi lingkungan. Nilai-nilai Islam termasuk mencegah barangbarang boros dengan prinsip 3R (Re-use, Reduce, and Recycle) dan osagari dengan memberikan barang-barang bekas kepada mereka yang membutuhkannya. Tradisi osagari adalah media komunikasi, saling membantu, dan menjaga persahabatan. Tradisi berlangsung lintas budaya, yang dilakukan tidak hanya oleh sesama Jepang, tetapi juga Jepang dengan non-Jepang dan bahkan di antara orang non-Jepang yang tinggal di Jepang.
