Abstract

This study examines parental comprehension regarding safe internet access using a qualitative descriptive approach. Participants included parents of early childhood students from various state kindergartens in Purwokerto: West Purwokerto, South Purwokerto, East Purwokerto, and North Purwokerto. Data collection encompassed stages of data collection, reduction, categorization, presentation, and verification. Findings revealed that parents' understanding of safe internet access primarily focused on digital utilization. This level of understanding was achieved through diverse avenues, including educational counseling and parenting activities conducted within schools. Parents demonstrated their preference for educational websites and applications as learning resources, and facilitated online learning by providing internet-enabled devices. Furthermore, parents reinforced internet access governance by establishing rules and agreements governing gadget and internet use. This governance was further supported through ongoing monitoring while children engaged with devices, both during and outside of learning contexts.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to determine the effectiveness of using Quizlet as a digital learning medium to improve the vocabulary mastery of junior high school students. This study applied a quasi-experimental design with pre-test and post-test. The population of this study consisted of the 8th-grade students of MTsN 1 Kota Makassar. Purposive sampling was utilized by the researchers to choose 80 students as a sample and divided them into two classes, experimental and controlled classes. This study used a vocabulary test as the instrument. The vocabulary test was used to determine whether the 'students' vocabulary mastery had improved following the treatment or not. The result of the study shows that there was improvement of 'students' vocabulary after using Quizlet as digital learning media. Therefore, using Quizlet as digital learning media is effective to improve 'students' vocabulary mastery. Quizlet is one of application that can be used as digital learning media with many features that can support the learning process in individuals and groups. Quizlet can also be used in online and offline situations.

Abstract

This descriptive qualitative study aimed to explore student engagement and student responses towards using Telegram in the ESP classroom. The participants consisted of 66 students from a private university in Indonesia. They were selected using a purposive sampling method. This study was conducted in a fully online mode class. This study also identified various ways in which assignments and student-to-student/teacher-student relationships in online learning environments can trigger student responses. An observation checklist and an interview guideline were used in data collection, and the theory of student engagement as a controlled action was employed in data analysis. The teaching practice of using Telegram in online classes seems to trigger various constructive responses and lively discussions. The discussion activity was mostly initiated by the teacher or the students who intended to ask questions or clarify an idea. This study shows that the use of Telegram in ESP classrooms contributes to a significant increase in students’ engagement, interaction, motivation, and collaboration online.  Despite its limitations, Telegram has proven its benefits to be used for improving students' interaction and engagement during language learning. Language learning is more enjoyable for both the students and teachers by incorporating Telegram in the ESP classrooms. In conclusion, this study presents the importance of technology integration in education, which makes learning more effective and empowering.
