Abstract

This study investigates the role of women in contemporary Islamic da’wah as a manifestation of gender role transformation within patriarchal social structures. The urgency of this inquiry stems from the persistent patriarchal bias in scriptural interpretation, which continues to constrain women’s authority and participation in public preaching spaces. Employing a qualitative, library-based approach, the research applies a hermeneutical framework that situates religious texts within their historical, social, and gendered lived contexts. The findings indicate that although women’s engagement in da’wah has expanded through diverse media and public platforms, structural barriers—including discrimination, subordination, marginalization, stereotypes, double burdens, and gender-based violence remain prevalent. The analysis reveals that literalist conservative interpretations tend to perpetuate exclusion, whereas a gender-justice hermeneutical approach reconstructs a more egalitarian understanding of Islam. Compared to prior studies, this research offers novelty by emphasizing the structural and ideological transformation of women’s roles in da’wah. In conclusion, women’s participation in contemporary Islamic da’wah represents a strategic repositioning, reinforced by contextual reinterpretation of religious texts, thereby expanding their legitimacy and contributions as agents of spiritual and social change.

Abstract

Some people generally perceive that wearing the niqab is closely associated with extremist and radical groups. However, every individual has the right to choose how to dress according to their personal beliefs and values. This study discusses the relationship between the identity of women wearing the niqab and the perceptions linking them to extremist and radical groups. The identity of women wearing the niqab is often associated with the views and actions of such groups. The purpose of this article is to explore the legal arguments regarding the niqab based on the four schools of Islamic thought, to analyze the cultural concepts and interpretations of the niqab across different regions of the world, and to examine the relationship between the identity of women wearing the niqab from religious, social, and cultural perspectives. This study employs a literature review method, using data collected from national and international journal articles and analyzed through the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldana.  The findings reveal that the practice of wearing the niqab carries both positive and negative stereotypes. The negative stereotypes tend to portray the niqab as a marker of identity linked to extremist and radical groups. Meanwhile, several positive stereotypes are also commonly attributed to women who wear the niqab, such as piety and devotion, honor and dignity, wisdom and maturity, as well as serving as role models and sources of inspiration. It is important to understand that a person’s identity is not solely determined by their appearance or clothing. The identity of women wearing the niqab can be influenced by religion, community, and culture; however, not all women wearing the niqab are involved in extremism or radicalism. Every individual has the freedom to express their identity in a way that reflects their beliefs, as long as it does not violate the law or human values.

Abstract

This study examines women’s representation in the Indonesian legislature and the factors influencing the achievement of the 30% minimum quota. Using a normative legal research method with statutory and conceptual approaches, the study analyzes relevant regulations and internal party mechanisms. The findings reveal that although women’s representation has increased nationally, it remains below the quota target, with notable variations across provinces. Major challenges include structural, technical, and socio-cultural factors such as patriarchal culture, limited access to resources, non-strategic candidate placement, and gender-based political violence. Based on Pitkin’s theory of representation, the analysis shows that the growing number of female legislators tends to strengthen descriptive representation but does not yet significantly enhance substantive policy influence. The discussion compares these findings with previous studies and highlights the need for a dual strategy: internal party reform and cultural intervention to strengthen women’s substantive participation. In conclusion, improving women’s representation requires synergy between regulations, implementation mechanisms, and political culture transformation to produce gender-responsive public policies.

Abstract

The existence of a minor response given by the major community makes waria or transgender increasingly oppressed and marginalized. In addition, the injustice that applies in community law makes it difficult for waria to access various public facilities, one of which is religious. So that the space for the expression of his spirituality in the public sphere is limited. The purpose of this research is to find out the life story of transgender people in the Waria Al-Fatah Islamic Boarding School, Yogyakarta, who became a weak and oppressed minority group and were then able to reinvent Islam. The method used is a qualitative-descriptive research. The data were analyzed using the theory of symbolic interactionism. This qualitative-descriptive study uses a case study approach. Data were collected through interviews with the five transgender students, observation, and document analysis. Data were processed using Miles and Huberman’s model and analyzed with symbolic interactionism theory. The results of the study show that the establishment of the Yogyakarta Al-Fatah Waria Islamic Boarding School is able to become a place that provides a safe space for transgender people to study and re-find their religion, namely Islam, in the midst of threats and discrimination that befell them in public spaces. Transgender people are given the freedom and flexibility to express their spirituality according to their individual convenience. In addition, it requires the role and ongoing support of several parties so that this Islamic boarding school continues to exist in the midst of public views that override the humanitarian side. This also includes the role of support as a mediator in resolving and maintaining transgender people in this Islamic Boarding School.

Abstract

The development of Pondok Pesantren Al-Islami Kebon Jambu Cirebon, as a traditional Islamic educational institution, represents a strategic urgency in ensuring its relevance and effectiveness amid the dynamics of the digital era. Special emphasis is placed on the gender perspective, considering that the pesantren is led by a female religious leader (Ibu Nyai), whose leadership reflects a strong and influential female presence. This study aims to critically examine the impact of multidisciplinary community service on strengthening pesantren governance, especially in supporting women’s leadership and building a gender-responsive pesantren system. A qualitative case study approach was adopted using a feminist framework. Data collection involved participatory observation, in-depth interviews, literature review, and collaborative practices through the KKN PLUS (Community Service or Kuliah Kerja Nyata) PLUS. The activities engaged male and female students from diverse academic backgrounds, including Architecture, Visual Communication Design, Informatics Engineering, Information Systems, Accounting, and Management. The results show that the initiative contributed not only to technical aspects such as the design of physical facilities and digitalization of financial management but also strengthened the managerial capacity of the pesantren, particularly in supporting women-led leadership. Furthermore, multidisciplinary integration generated holistic and coordinated solutions, especially in the application of information systems, enhancement of financial literacy, and the design of infrastructure that accommodates the needs and comfort of female students. Therefore, this community service initiative functions as a medium of social transformation that not only improves institutional quality but also affirms the strategic role of women within the pesantren environment.

The background of this study lies in the urgency of gender-responsive education to fulfill the needs of each gender fairly and equally in the field of education. The study employed a descriptive qualitative research method. The informants included school principals; vice principals for curriculum, facilities and infrastructure, student affairs, and public relations; teachers; and students, who were selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through interviews, observation, and documentation. The validity of the data was ensured through triangulation of sources, techniques, and time. Data analysis was carried out using the interactive model proposed by Miles, Huberman, and Saldana. The findings show that several efforts made by school to build gender-responsive schools within the framework of the Independent Curriculum. These include implementing differentiated learning, strengthening the capacity of teachers and staff, developing gender-sensitive P5 programs, integrating gender perspectives into teaching modules, and establishing TPPKS. Indicators of gender-responsive schools in the context of the Independent Curriculum can be observed through the standards of graduation, content, teaching and learning processes, teachers and educational staff, facilities and infrastructure, school management, financing, assessment, students, and community participation. The challenges in implementing the Independent Curriculum include limited time, diverse assessment formats, and the lack of offline training programs.

Abstract

This paper provided a psychoanalytic analysis of Sylvia Plath’s “Mirror”, grounded in Sigmund Freud’s theory of the three levels of the mind: conscious, preconscious, and unconscious. While other analyses covered the poem’s feminist and symbolic aspects, this research aimed to explore its psychological depth, particularly from the mirror’s perspective and its reflection of the woman’s inner conflict regarding identity and aging. With a qualitative analysis, the research explored how conscious awareness, preconscious thought, and unconscious dread shaped self-perception in both the mirror and its subject. The findings revealed key themes such as truth and objectivity, self-awareness, self-exploration, self-deception, inevitable passage of time, and hidden fears. By applying Freud’s structural model, this study advanced literary interpretation and emphasized mental health, gender empathy, and self-image. It aligns with Sustainable Development Goals 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and 5 (Gender Equality). In its psychoanalytic interpretation of Mirror, the study helped deepen the understanding of literature as a reflection of the human mind, with a focus on the importance of psychological health and the complexities of female identity.

Abstract

This study examines the transformational leadership of a female principal at MTs Muhammadiyah 1 Malang, focusing on how her leadership impacts curriculum development and institutional progress. Using a qualitative phenomenological approach, data were collected through interviews, observation, and documentation. Findings show that her leadership aligns with four key dimensions of transformational leadership: idealized influence, inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation, and individualized consideration. These are evident in improved teacher attendance (+30%), enhanced teacher motivation (85% satisfaction), innovative program launches, and reduced disciplinary cases (–50%). The school’s values-based SAKINAH curriculum is implemented through integrative programs such as eco-education, Qur’an-based projects, and student entrepreneurship. This leadership model significantly improves the school’s reputation, achievements, and enrollment. The study recommends structured support for women leaders, contextualized curriculum design, and broader adoption of eco-integrated programs. Future research should explore long-term impacts of female leadership and the replication of this model in other Islamic educational settings

Abstract

This study aims to improve gross motor skills in early childhood through modifications to various jumping games. Technological developments have contributed to a decline in children’s physical activity, which consequently affects their motor development. Traditional jumping games, which can enhance balance, agility, and coordination, are increasingly being replaced by digital games. This study employed Classroom Action Research (CAR) using the Kemmis and McTaggart model in two cycles, involving 20 children aged 5–6 years. Modifications were made to the game by adjusting the rules and equipment to increase children's engagement. The quantitative findings show an increase in gross motor skill scores from 1.5 (Emerging stage or beginning to develop) in Cycle 1 to 3.3 (Expected Level of Development or very well developed) in Cycle 2. This improvement was significant, with all children actively participating in the activities, indicating that the game modifications had a positive and comprehensive impact on various aspects of gross motor skills. The study highlights the importance of modifying traditional games as an effective strategy to increase physical activity and support children's motor development in the digital age.
