Abstract

Sprint speed in the 100-meter event is an important component of physical education; however, students often show inconsistent performance due to limited specific training. This study aimed to determine the effect of shuttle run training on students’ sprint speed. An experimental method with a one-group pretest–posttest design was used involving 32 students of class X.8 at SMAN 1 Arjasa. Data were collected using a 100-meter sprint test and analyzed using a paired sample t-test. The results showed a significant improvement, with the average time decreasing from 15.58 seconds to 14.73 seconds (p < 0.05). The results of the analysis showed an increase in 100-metre sprint running speed after the shuttle run training. The average time decreased from 15.58 seconds in the pretest to 14.73 seconds in the posttest. The paired sample t-test showed a p-value < 0.001, indicating a significant difference between the results before and after treatment. Shuttle run training has been proven effective in improving students' 100-metre sprint speed. The application of this training can be a practical and efficient alternative in physical education in secondary schools. It can be concluded that shuttle run training is effective in improving students’ sprint speed and can be applied as a practical training method in physical education

Abstract

The use of appropriate learning media technology plays a crucial role in fostering students’ character development. This study aims to explore the potential implementation of digital storytelling as a learning medium to build and strengthen independent character among students in special schools (SLB). Independent character is essential as it encompasses students’ ability to make decisions, take responsibility, and demonstrate initiative autonomously. This research employs a qualitative approach, with data collected through observations and interviews. The participants consisted of 22 students from SLB Harapan Pelangi Kalisat. Data were analyzed systematically through the stages of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification. The findings indicate that the use of digital storytelling based on independent character values is both effective and innovative, with an implementation rate reaching 98%. This approach provides meaningful learning experiences for students with disabilities, enabling them to better understand and internalize the values of independence in the learning process.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of weight training programs on increasing vertical jump in volleyball athletes at Club Langit. Vertical jump is one of the important physical abilities in volleyball because it is directly related to performance when doing smashes, blocks, and serves. The method used in this study is a quasi-experimental method with a pretest-posttest group design. The subjects of the study were 12 volleyball athletes who participated in a weight training program for 4 weeks with a frequency of 3 times a week. The training program focused on strengthening the muscles of the legs, hips, and core muscles. The results of data processing showed a significant increase in vertical jump results after the training program was carried out, with an average increase of 18%. These results indicate that weight training can effectively improve vertical jump ability. The conclusion of this study is that the weight training program has a positive effect on increasing the vertical jump of volleyball athletes, so it is worthy of being part of a systematic and sustainable physical development program at Club Langit

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the kinematic characteristics of the Ushiro Mawashi Geri kick performed by karate athletes using Dartfish motion analysis software. The study employed a qualitative descriptive approach involving five male karate athletes selected through purposive sampling based on specific criteria. Data were collected through observation, video documentation, kicking performance tests, and motion analysis using Dartfish software. The analysis focused on the preparation, execution, and follow-through phases of the kick. The findings showed that the athletes generally demonstrated good performance in executing the Ushiro Mawashi Geri technique. The Dartfish analysis results indicated 3.33% in the excellent category, 73.67% in the good category, 13.00% in the poor category, and 10.00% in the very poor category. Several technical weaknesses were still identified, particularly in body balance, movement coordination, and foot positioning during the rotational and follow-through phases. This study concludes that kinematic analysis using Dartfish software can be utilized as an evaluation tool to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of Ushiro Mawashi Geri techniques in karate training. However, due to the limited number of participants, the findings are exploratory and cannot be generalized broadly.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the effect of martial arts extracurricular activities on the physical fitness of junior high school students. The research used a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design. The participants consisted of 30 students aged 12–14 years who actively participated in karate, pencak silat, and taekwondo extracurricular activities at SMP Kemala Bhayangkari Bandung. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling. Physical fitness data were collected using a physical fitness test battery for adolescents, including handgrip strength, sargent jump, sit and reach, sit-ups, beep test, and body mass index. Data analysis was conducted using the Shapiro–Wilk normality test, Levene homogeneity test, and one-way ANOVA with a significance level of 0.05. The results showed that all martial arts extracurricular activities improved students’ physical fitness. The one-way ANOVA test showed a significance value of 0.047 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant difference in physical fitness improvement among the three martial arts groups. The karate group demonstrated the highest increase in average scores compared to pencak silat and taekwondo. The differences in improvement were influenced by variations in training frequency, intensity, and movement characteristics in each martial art. Therefore, martial arts extracurricular activities can be considered an effective physical activity program for improving the physical fitness of junior high school students.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effect of music on improving the concentration of badminton athletes. A quantitative methodology was applied, utilizing a pretest-posttest control group framework. Twelve active badminton club athletes aged 18-22 years were randomly allocated to experimental (n=6) and control (n=6) groups. The experimental group listened to self-selected music for ten minutes before training over a four-week period, whilst the control group sat quietly without music. Concentration was measured using the Concentration Grid Test (CGT) before and after the intervention. Results showed that the experimental group demonstrated a significant increase in concentration scores from pre-test (M=15.50, SD=2.168) to post-test (M=20.00, SD=1.897), while the control group showed minimal change (pre-test: M=11.83, SD=0.753; post-test: M=15.83, SD=0.753). These findings indicate that listening to self-selected music before training measurably enhances badminton athletes' concentration capacity through mechanisms of arousal regulation and attentional focus. Based on these outcomes, it is recommended that a music protocol should be adopted as a cost-effective, easily accessible, and scientifically evidence-based mental preparation strategy, particularly for coaches or institutions with limited access to professional sports psychologists.
