Abstract

Mid of March 2020, the coronavirus 19 pandemic outbreaks caused many offices, markets, schools, and universities closed to maintain its dead spreading. It makes all the offline activities should be changed into online interaction including at higher education. Lawrence & Tar (2018) reflected a study about factors that influence teachers’ adoption and integration of ICT in teaching/learning process. This study is about the activity of new normal in conducting online education relating to the use of six strategies applied which are applied by teachers in the Islamic University of Antasari Banjarmasin Indonesia. Within the new normal period, this study reveals the six strategies on conducting online education namely; a) the strategy of contextualization, b) the strategy of proper delivery, c) the strategy of high adaptation on using technology, d) the strategy of adequate support, e) the strategy of quality participation, f) the strategy of sustainable processes.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to observe students’ reflection towards the integration of Tawhidic Science at the program “Kem Pandang Alam”, at Tanjung Tuan Wildlife Reserve and several other locations nearby Tanjung Tuan, Teluk Kemang and Si Rusa, Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan Malaysia. The respondents of this study were 32 students from tahfiz schools and tahfiz science schools (15 boys and 17 girls). These students were exclusively selected candidates from their respective schools. Data were analysed based on constant comparative analysis. The finding reveals that there were seven themes including greatness of God’s knowledge; nature as the source of knowledge, education and lesson; improvement of faith; self-development, the formation of identity, the increase of awareness, and the closer of social relations. The implication of this study is to expose these students the importance of the integration of Tawhidic Science where science and religion are inseparable from everyday life.

Abstract

In recent years there has been a large increase in the number of research that deal with values education in Turkey. There are several reviews to determine the trends of these studies. However, these reviews were mostly limited to theses, dissertations and proceedings, and it is necessary to review articles on values education. The data of the research conducted with the qualitative research method was gathered by document analysis. 479 articles were included in the research after duplicates and the articles published in non-refereed journals were removed. Content analysis was used to analyze the obtained data. According to the findings of the research; (a) the highest number of articles were published in 2017, (b) qualitative research methods were the most common research methods, (c) most frequently document analysis was preferred as the data collection tool, and content analysis was preferred as the analysis method, (d) data were collected from pre-service teachers the most and purposeful sampling was the most favored sampling method, (e) the sample size is mostly less than 50, (f) mostly the answer to a single research question was sought, (g) the majority of articles were written by two authors, (h) most articles were written by assistant professors as titles and by teachers of the Ministry of National Education on an institutional basis, (i) the articles mostly used domestic sources (j) the majority of the articles were written in Turkish and had not an English extended summary, (k) the most favored journal was The Journal of Values Education.

Abstract

In the study of Islamic education, the scientific and medical contributions of Muslims globally are incongruously positioned. In most cases, Islamic education is completely divorced from its conventional scientific research and experimentation known and appreciated in its early and classical periods. Science and medicine are not alien in Islamic epistemology, though, have suffered gross neglect in the Muslim World in recent centuries. However, the universality and connectivity among the Muslims in the world since the beginning of the Islamic mission has been one of the gluing and cementing factors in the Muslim world intellectually and culturally, which made spread and diffusion of literature and scholarship across Muslim communities reciprocally. It is thus, not a surprise to find that, not only on the spiritual and educational facets but also in scientific and medical spheres the classical writers of the Middle Eastern and Mediterranean regions got their ways and significantly impacted the Muslim scholars of the nineteenth century northern Nigeria. The paper, therefore, aims at tracing and analyzing the extent of influence of those (Middle Eastern and Mediterranean regions) scientific literatures on the perception, motivation, as well as research, documentation, and experimentation in fields of sciences and medicine in Muslim Northern Nigeria. Special consideration will be given to the works by Sultan Muhammad Bello, d. 1837, who wrote quite a number of treatises on different aspects of sciences, followed by Sheikh Abdullahi Fodiyo d. 1829, and others who followed after them. The research will also explore how in turn, their educational works on scientific and medical research also impacted on the Muslim societies in Nigeria and beyond, especially in the codification and enlistment of the scientific resource materials on the wider educational spheres and the curricular of the Muslim societies of the area, since the last two centuries.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the extent of the implementation of the Child Friendly School program at MTsN 6 Jombang. This evaluation research uses the CIPP evaluation model. This research is an evaluative research with a qualitative approach with a type of case study. The data collection technique is done by interview, observation, and documentation methods. While the data analysis stage was carried out in three stages, namely reduction, presentation, and verification. The results showed that: (1) In the context evaluation, it can be said that the program is in accordance with the needs of the community and there is also a legal basis for the implementation of the program; (2) In the evaluation, the input aspect can be said to be very good, because the implementation of the program is handled very well, namely by the formation of a Child Friendly School Team and also the existence of facilities that support the program; (3) Evaluation of the process aspects related to the program shows that the program is carried out very well, including that almost all existing learning processes must include child-friendly elements in the curriculum. Apart from that cooperation is also carried out to all stakeholders; and (4) Regarding the evaluation of the results, it can be seen from the awards that the school has received, both in the academic and non-academic fields, including those related to the Child Friendly School program, which is winning the highest award or the best national level predicate as a Child Friendly School. The results of this evaluation research are expected to contribute to Islamic education institutions as best practice in implementing the Child Friendly School program.

Abstract

The world we live today has undergone a dramatic change in values, science and technology. In a world so divided with contending ideologies and worldviews, humanity as a whole has derailed from its philosophy of co-existence, tolerance and mutual respect for one another’s faith and culture. The war that should have ended with the formation of the United Nations is still raging in many parts of the world. News and business are controlled by some powerful conglomerates. The gap between the haves and have not’s still persists. In the wake of the present global condition, Muslims and their religion are targeted and falsely labeled as a global threat. This apparent situation of the world calls for the new generation of Muslims to think and re-evaluate on how to respond to the challenges and criticisms that come from others. Moreover, they have to carve out new ways to co-exist with others and on how to preserve their religion and cultural heritage of the past. Through this paper, the researchers intend to investigate the style of thinking of the great Muslim scholars during the heydays of the Islamic civilization and propose the importance of reviving such an orientation of thinking in the contemporary Muslim world. As a qualitative study, the researchers intend to present some historical evidence on the remarkable achievement of the Muslim scholars of the bygone centuries. The textual and document analysis methods will be employed in interpreting the relevant data of the study. Pertinent data related to the research will be retrieved from print and electronic media.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to develop a scale to determine the perceptions of teachers working in secondary schools related to school safety. Alongside the social actors, the elements involved in achieving the goals of educational activities are important actors in the solution and implementation of the school security problems. Therefore, the actors performed in this way and were want teachers' perception of safety education activities in schools is critical. The research includes a scale development study.   Certain steps in the scale of development for secondary teacher’s perceptions of school safety were monitored. Reliability and Validity Scale with work related to the development of exploratory and confirmatory factor analyzes were performed. Exploratory factor analysis of the obtained 40-item scale 54.233 discloses % of the total variance. Analyzes showed that reliability coefficients of scale factors ranged from .769 to .893. These values are enough to pass to the confirmatory factor analysis. Confirmatory factor analysis results showed that SSS is a valid tool to measure teachers’ perceptions about school safety. Structures of this study, data collected through school safety scale set Cronbach's alpha was calculated in order to determine the internal consistency. Application in terms of behavior and School Safety "Although low compared to other dimensions of size with .61, scale and reliability coefficients ranged between .80 and .93 for the dimensions have been determined to be highly reliable. İmplications for Research and Practice: With the help of the developed scale, relations between school safety perceptions and personal variables, organizational stress, school climate, use of security technologies, occupational burnout and organizational commitment can be examined. Effects of student perceptions of school safety on their academic success can be researched. Similar scales can be developed for parents, administrators, preschool, elementary school teachers, lecturers, and university students.

Abstract

Communal conflicts between ethnic groups in West Kalimantan still leave a post-conflict residue which is problematic to this day. For example, in Sambas, although at present it can be said that the relationship between ethnic Sambas Melayu and Madurese outside Sambas seems to be subsiding, the research findings showed that it is not the real fact in Sambas. Even in the community, there is still a stigma about Sambas as an unsafe area for the Madurese ethnicity. This social fact shows that the efforts of a dialogue forum to reconcile the two ethnicities only succeeded in resolving conflicts on the surface, but it failed to resolve the core of the conflict, namely stereotyping. Although it is not as complicated as in Sambas, inter-ethnic stereotypes are also a problem for two other post-conflict areas, namely Sanggau Ledo and Pontianak. Because education is considered to have a strategic role in building multicultural awareness and correcting stereotypes, in this context, multicultural education is considered relevant to be developed in schools in West Kalimantan. It is the focus of this study. This study is the result of qualitative research, whose data is obtained by the authors from observations, interviews, and documentation. The informants in this study were people in post-conflict areas in West Kalimantan, namely in Sanggau Ledo, Sambas, and Pontianak with ethnic backgrounds of Malay, Dayak, and Madura. In this study, the authors used an interactive data analysis method which included data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion/verification proposed by Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to describe instructional leadership as one of the leadership styles in the context of Madrasah Aliyah teaching and learning, typically at MAN 1 Samarinda, East Kalimantan. In-depth interviews with the school principal and representative teachers from all levels were conducted in order to dig information regarding the research focus. Additionally, document analysis is also used to support the findings gained from in-depth interviews specifically related to the document of school vision and mission and supervision of teachers' performance. As a result, three dimensions of instructional leadership exist in the implementation of instructional leadership at MAN 1 Samarinda, i.e. the school principal supports in terms of the implementation of school vision and mission, management of school program, and positive teaching and learning climate. Even though this research gains positive results regarding with the implementation of instructional leadership, some previous studies in this research reveal that there are quite many formal schools who are still lack of knowledge concerning with leadership styles especially instructional leadership. Therefore, the pedagogical implication of this research findings drives the involvement of the government in supporting school principal in any formal institution, especially in enriching their knowledge in implementing appropriate leadership styles. Research novelty and pedagogical implications are discussed further in this research.

Abstract

The multidimensional crisis that encourages the importance of developing a spiritual education model based on ethnopedagogy is the background of this research. The goal is to find the content of Islamic spiritual education in the tradition of bapalas bidan or batapung tawar, which is a rite of passage for the early life stage of the Banjar tribe. This qualitative research used an ethnometodological design in the Banjar Hulu and Banjar Batang Banyu areas represented by Hulu Sungai Selatan and Tapin Districts, with criteria-based subjects, combined quouta types and comparisons between cases. Data were collected by engaging observation and in-depth interviews; analyzed by modification of Spradley's cyclic model, which checked its validity according to the degree of trust, transferability, dependence, and certainty. This study found that the tradition of bapalas bidan can be categorized as a form of spiritual education based on the religion of Islam. At a philosophical level, this tradition symbolizes the trilogical relationship: God-man-nature through a process of meaning in the form of tabarruk and tafâ'ul towards the ideal Banjar personality, namely baiman, bauntung, and batuah. Psychologically, this tradition is an expression of gratitude and moral responsibility to prepare an initial environment that is conducive to human spiritual development. As for theoretical education, this tradition describes the transfer of knowledge and spiritual transfer of values which is supported by the findings of neuroscience so that it can be reconstructed in ethnopedagogy-based learning models.
