Abstract

Decision making is a very important ability possessed by individuals at this time, especially in solving socio-scientific issues. The purpose of this study was to analyze research trends regarding socio-scientific issue-based decision making in elementary schools by conducting a bibliometric analysis of bibliographic data on technical research articles indexed by Google Scholar by combining analysis in terms of bibliometric map distribution using VOS viewer software. The research data was obtained from Google Scholar database through the Publish or Perish reference management application. The data filtering process was carried out based on the keywords "decision making and socio-scientific issues" contained in the topic, title, keywords, and abstract domains. The tracing was carried out on articles published from 2006 to 2022. From the search results obtained 23 relevant articles. The results showed that research on decision making based on socio-scientific issues was mostly carried out in 2010 and 2014. Research on decision making based on socio-scientific issues was rarely carried out at the elementary school level. So, it can be concluded that the opportunity for developing research regarding decision-making based on socio-scientific issues at the elementary school level is very large. Therefore, it is hoped that this study can provide references and considerations in seeking further research fields, especially those related to decision-making based on socio-scientific issues in elementary schools.

Abstract

A lack of prudence and mismanagement of school funds by the principals could give rise to poor student performance since it might slow down the acquisition of essential materials for teaching and learning. This study analyzes the relationship between principals’ fund management strategies and school administrative effectiveness. It assessed principals' budgetary practices, the perceived level of administrative effectiveness, and the relationship between fund management on secondary schools' effectiveness. Two research questions and one hypothesis were generated for the study. The research design was the descriptive survey type. The population of the study comprised all the one hundred and thirty-two (132) secondary schools. The total number of respondents included forty (40) principals representing 30% of the population, who were selected using the stratified random sampling technique. A self-designed questionnaire titled "Principals’ Fund Management Strategies and School Administrative Effectiveness in Secondary Schools Questionnaire (PFMSSAEQ)" was used for data collection, and Pearson's Product Moment Correlation Coefficient (r) yielded a reliability coefficient of 0.76. The results showed that principals kept accurate records of expenditure, had an average level of effectiveness, and had a significant influence on fund management in secondary schools. It was recommended that principals be strictly monitored by the Ministry of Education to ensure that they continue to maintain accurate record-keeping because of its role in effective fund management in secondary schools.

Abstract

In preparation for the challenges of the real world and life after school, moral judgement stands as a pivotal skill among Malaysian secondary school students. Understanding the moral motivating factors contributing to the development of moral judgement maturity is imperative. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the relationships between moral motivation components—specifically, moral emotion (guilt and shame) and moral identity—and moral judgement among Malaysian secondary school students. A sample of 393 students (170 males, 223 females; M age = 16 years) from Selangor state participated in the study. Structural equation modelling (SEM) was utilised to analyse the predictive associations between these constructs. The findings revealed positive correlations among moral emotion, moral identity, and moral judgement. Notably, both guilt and shame, as well as moral identity, were found to be significantly related to students' moral judgement maturity. These results suggest that the tendency for experiencing guilt and shame, along with a heightened moral identity, play pivotal roles in shaping the moral judgement maturity of secondary school students, potentially fostering their moral development. This study contributes valuable insights into the mechanisms linking emotions and identity to moral judgement maturity, offering significant implications for the field of moral psychology.
