Abstract

The negative perception among young people regarding work in the agricultural sector is high. Agriculture is viewed as dirty, offering no promise of prosperity, and is predominantly associated with low motivation. This study aims to analyze how family and peer factors influence young people’s motivation to work in the agricultural sector. The approach used in this study is a quantitative descriptive analysis of 169 respondents university studentsselected via purposive sampling through the distribution of an online questionnaire (Google Form). The research variables family support (X1) and peer support (X2) were measured using a 1–5 Likert scale, while motivation (Y) was coded as a dummy variable (1 = high and 0 = low). Data analysis employed binary logistic regression using Microsoft Excel and SPSS version 25. The results indicate that the family support variable has a positive and significant influence on the motivation of the younger generation to work in the agricultural sector. Meanwhile, the peer support variable does not have a significant influence on motivation to work in the agricultural sector. It is hoped that internal environments such as families and external parties, including the government, the community, and peers, can enhance the motivation of the younger generation in the agricultural sector through various programs and guidance relevant to the progress of the times in the future.

Abstract

Microalgae are promising functional food sources due to their high nutritional value and bioactive compounds. This study aimed to compare the nutritional composition, pigment content, and antioxidant activity of Spirulina and Chlorella. Proximate analysis was conducted to determine protein, lipid, carbohydrate, moisture, and ash content, while pigment analysis (phycocyanin, chlorophyll, and carotenoids) was performed using UV-Vis spectrophotometry. Antioxidant activity was evaluated using the DPPH method. The results showed that Spirulina had higher protein (67.35%) and ash content, whereas Chlorella exhibited higher lipid content (10.01%). Pigment analysis revealed that Spirulina contained higher phycocyanin and carotenoid levels, while Chlorella was dominated by chlorophyll. In addition, Spirulina demonstrated stronger antioxidant activity, as indicated by a lower IC50 value (128.74 ppm), compared to Chlorella (341.24 ppm). These findings indicate a strong relationship between bioactive pigment composition and antioxidant activity, where phycocyanin and carotenoids play a key role in enhancing radical scavenging capacity. Overall, Spirulina shows greater potential as a source of protein and natural antioxidants, while Chlorella is more suitable as a source of lipids and chlorophyll.

Abstract

Coffee productivity among smallholder farmers in non-central producing regions like Samarang District, Garut Regency, is constrained by limited cultivation techniques, market uncertainty, and climate change threats. The agribusiness partnership between farmers and seed breeders offers a strategic solution, yet its effectiveness and managerial position have not been profoundly analyzed. This study aims to evaluate the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT) of the coffee agribusiness partnership between farmers and seed breeders in Samarang, Garut, and to determine its strategic positioning for developing a sustainable partnership model. A quantitative approach with a survey method was employed. Samples were selected using purposive sampling, comprising 35 active coffee farmers in the Bina Bakti Farmers Group and 1 seed breeder. Primary data collected via structured questionnaires with a 1–5 Likert scale were analyzed using the weighted scoring method to map the SWOT matrix. The partnership performance evaluation demonstrated a significant positive impact, with farmers' yields increasing by 77.8% (from 851.56 kg to 1,513.83 kg) and incomes surging by 121.2% (from IDR 19.7 million to IDR 43.6 million). The SWOT quadrantal analysis indicated that Strengths were in the very high category (85.20), Weaknesses were low (34.18), Opportunities were moderately high (64.51), and Threats stood at a moderate-to-high level (58.78), with climate change impacts identified as the highest threat indicator. The strategic positioning of this partnership system lies in Quadrant I (Aggressive/SO Strategy).

Abstract

The use of compost fertilizer is an important strategy in increasing the productivity and income of sweet corn farmers in a sustainable manner. This study aims to analyze the income of sweet corn farmers using compost fertilizer in Seuneubok Dalam Village, Idi Tunong Subdistrict, East Aceh Regency. The study uses a quantitative descriptive approach with a farm income analysis method. The research population consisted of 134 sweet corn farmers who were members of eight farmer groups, with a total of 57 farmers selected as respondents using the Slovin formula at a tolerance level of 10% through simple random sampling. The data used included primary and secondary data collected through surveys, interviews, and documentation. The results showed that the use of compost fertilizer was able to improve the quality and quantity of sweet corn production, as indicated by an increase in the average cob weight from 153 grams to 200 grams and an increase in production from 5,130 kg/ha to 6,560 kg/ha. The improvement in crop quality resulted in an increase in the selling price from IDR 1,400/kg to IDR 2,000/kg, thereby increasing farmers' income from IDR 7,182,000/ha to IDR 13,120,000/ha. The total production cost of farming is IDR 3,063,048/ha, resulting in a net income for farmers of IDR 10,056,952/ha per planting season. The results of the study show that the use of compost contributes positively to increasing the income of sweet corn farmers and supports the efficiency and sustainability of farming.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze Agribusiness students' perceptions of the image of the farming profession, focusing on students from the Agribusiness Study Program at the Faculty of Agriculture, Muhammadiyah University of Sukabumi. The method used is descriptive with a Likert scale. Primary data was obtained through a questionnaire from 65 respondents selected using a simple random sampling technique. Analysis was carried out by calculating scores and percentage indices to determine the level of respondents' assessment of the image of the farming profession. The results showed that the image of the farming profession is in the good category with an index value of 71.09%. Students have a positive view of the prospects of the agricultural sector in the future, but there are still negative views related to social status, income, and modernization. This indicates a gap between views and career interests in the agricultural sector. Therefore, efforts are needed to improve the image of the farming profession through modernization, improving welfare, and the role of education and media in building a positive image of the farming profession.

Abstract

Strawberry farming is a high-value horticultural activity with strong potential to generate economic benefits when managed efficiently. In practice, however, the level of financial feasibility often varies among farmers, even under similar agroecological conditions. This study aims to analyze production cost structure, revenue, income, and financial feasibility of strawberry farming using the Revenue–Cost Ratio (R/C) approach, as well as to compare the economic performance of two strawberry farmers in Sugihmukti Village, Pasir Jambu District, Bandung Regency. This research employed a quantitative descriptive method with a comparative case study approach. Data were collected through structured interviews and field observations over one production season. Production costs were classified into fixed and variable costs, followed by calculations of total cost, revenue, income, and R/C Ratio for each farming unit. The results indicate that both strawberry farms are financially feasible, with R/C Ratios greater than one. Farmer 1 achieved an R/C Ratio of 2.04 and a net income of IDR 293,928,000 per year, while Farmer 2 recorded an R/C Ratio of 1.16 with a net income of IDR 89,014,000 per year. Although Farmer 2 generated higher total revenue, higher production costs reduced overall profitability.

Abstract

Sumedang Regency is known for its leading commodity, Cilembu sweet potato. This study aimed to analyze the competitive advantage and farming efficiency of Cilembu sweet potato farming in Sumedang Regency. The research used a quantitative approach by comparing farming productivity and R/C ratio values in two production centers, namely Pamulihan and Tanjungsari Districts. Data were collected through surveys using questionnaires distributed to 124 farmers selected through simple random sampling. Data analysis was conducted using productivity and R/C ratio approaches to determine competitive advantage and farming efficiency. The results showed that Cilembu sweet potato farmers were generally of productive age, had moderate education levels, and possessed sufficient farming experience to support farming activities. Farming in both districts was considered feasible, with production costs dominated by labor and fertilizer expenses. However, Pamulihan District demonstrated higher productivity, income, and R/C ratio (1.91) compared to Tanjungsari, indicating better competitive advantage and competitiveness. Meanwhile, Tanjungsari needs improvements in productivity, cost efficiency, and selling prices to enhance its competitiveness.
