Abstract

Critical Discourse in the Malin Kundang Folktale: An Analysis of Mythology and Power in Minangkabau Culture. This study aims to analyze power relations, the naturalization of values, and the construction of mythology in the Malin Kundang folktale. The study uses a qualitative approach with a Critical Discourse Analysis design that combines the perspectives of power–discourse and mythological theory. The data in the form of story texts are analyzed through stages of reduction, categorization, and interpretation of narratives that represent mother–child relations and symbols of punishment. The results of the study indicate that disobedience is constructed gradually through changes in social status and identity conflicts; the mother's authority is legitimized as the moral center of the family; and the transformation into stone functions as a mythologization mechanism that naturalizes the norm of obedience. The conclusion of the study confirms that folktales act as discursive practices that reproduce power relations and shape moral subjects in Minangkabau culture.

Abstract

This study explores the expression of ludus love in popular teenage pantuns on the social media platform TikTok. According to the Oxford English Dictionary, ludus refers to a playful and non-committal type of love. John Lee (1973) classified ludus as a love style that prioritizes amusement and light-hearted interaction rather than deep emotional commitment. Such characteristics align with the nature of today's digital youth communication, which is expressive, instantaneous, and algorithm-driven. This research applies Paul Ricoeur's hermeneutic approach, which consists of three interpretive stages: explanation (structural analysis), understanding (contextual interpretation), and appropriation (reader's internalization of meaning). This method provides a comprehensive framework to uncover symbolic meanings embedded within seemingly simple pantuns. The analysis of pantuns reveals three dominant forms of ludus love: playful love, flirtatious love, and love without commitment. These forms serve not only as emotional expressions but also as strategic tools for communication and identity construction in digital youth culture. Consequently, digital pantuns are no longer seen merely as traditional verse but have transformed into performative and symbolic media reflecting the dynamics of contemporary teenage romance..

Abstract

Legal discourse, specifically Investigation Reports (Berita Acara Pemeriksaan/BAP), serves as a critical evidentiary foundation in the criminal justice system. Ideally, these documents must embody strict neutrality and objectivity to ensure fair legal proceedings. However, a significant research problem persists: the potential infiltration of subjective evaluative language that may compromise legal clarity, fairness, and procedural justice. Despite their profound legal weight, there is limited empirical understanding of how linguistic appraisal mechanisms operate within various BAP types. Unchecked evaluative language risks introducing bias, manipulating narrative perspectives, and creating legal ambiguities that could adversely affect suspect rights and judicial outcomes. This gap necessitates a critical linguistic examination to uncover hidden subjectivities within ostensibly objective legal texts. Consequently, this study aims to evaluate the language used in Investigation Reports by applying Appraisal Theory to analyze Attitude and Positioning patterns. This research employed a qualitative descriptive design supported by corpus analysis using the Simple Concordance Program (SCP). The data consisted of eight types of Investigation Reports obtained from the Galang Sub-district Police Station. The analysis focused on identifying evaluative lexical items and their distribution across report types. To ensure analytical reliability, appraisal categories were classified based on predefined criteria, and cross-checking was conducted to reduce subjectivity. The findings indicate that negative Attitude dominates the Suspect Investigation Reports (35.7%), while negative Positioning is most prominent in Confiscation Reports (24.2%). In general, Suspect Reports show the highest frequency of appraisal usage (97.99%), suggesting a high degree of evaluative language in representing events. These findings highlight the importance of linguistic awareness in drafting investigation reports, particularly in maintaining neutrality and clarity to avoid potential misinterpretation. The prevalence of negative appraisal suggests an inherent bias that could influence judicial outcomes, underscoring the urgent need for standardized linguistic protocols in legal documentation to uphold justice and procedural integrity

Abstract

In the context of learning Indonesian as a foreign language, limited vocabulary often becomes one of the main obstacles that hinder learners from communicating effectively. To overcome this limitation, learners frequently employ various communication strategies that allow them to maintain interaction despite gaps in linguistic competence. Understanding how these strategies are used is essential for improving the effectiveness of Indonesian language teaching for foreign learners (BIPA). This study aims to identify and analyze the compensation strategies employed by BIPA learners in Vietnam when dealing with limitations in Indonesian vocabulary during classroom interactions. This research employed a qualitative descriptive approach. The study was conducted at Ho Chi Minh City Open University, Vietnam, involving Vietnamese students enrolled in an Indonesian language class. Data were collected through classroom observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation of learners’ utterances during learning activities. A total of 20 instances of learner utterances and communicative behaviors indicating the use of compensation strategies were identified and analyzed. Data analysis followed the qualitative analysis model of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that BIPA learners employ several types of compensation strategies to maintain communication. These strategies include code-switching, lexical borrowing, lexical approximation, circumlocution, and gestural strategies. Among these strategies, lexical borrowing from English was found to be the most frequently used, indicating the role of English as a linguistic support in communication. Nonverbal strategies such as gestures were also commonly used to clarify meanings when learners lacked appropriate vocabulary. The study suggests that compensation strategies play an important role in sustaining communication and supporting the development of learners’ communicative competence. Therefore, BIPA instruction should adopt communicative and contextual approaches that allow learners to utilize such strategies while gradually expanding their vocabulary repertoire.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of digital leadership, teamwork, and work motivation on teacher creativity at State Senior High Schools in West Pasaman Regency. The research employs a quantitative approach using a causal-associative correlational design. The research sample consists of 195 teachers across State Senior High Schools in West Pasaman Regency, selected through the Stratified Proportional Random Sampling technique. Data were systematically collected using a structured questionnaire and analyzed using path analysis. The results show that digital leadership has a direct and significant influence on teacher creativity, albeit with a relatively small contribution of 1.7%. Meanwhile, teamwork proves to be the most dominant factor influencing teacher creativity, contributing 62.1%. Work motivation also exerts a strong direct influence on teacher creativity, with a contribution of 19.1%. Conversely, the data analysis reveals no direct influence of digital leadership on teamwork, nor an indirect influence of digital leadership on teacher creativity through work motivation. However, a significant indirect influence exists between teamwork and teacher creativity as mediated by work motivation, contributing 16.6%. Overall, these empirical findings confirm that teamwork is the most decisive factor in enhancing teacher creativity in the school environment, operating both directly and indirectly through work motivation. Therefore, strengthening a collaborative climate among educators should be prioritized as the key strategy to optimize instructional creativity.

Abstract

This study presents a systematic literature review (SLR) on the integration of augmented reality (AR) in folk poetry education from 2019 to 2024. Although AR is increasingly prominent in STEM fields, its application in the humanities, especially literary instruction and cultural heritage preservation, remains limited. As an oral and symbolic form of intangible heritage, folk poetry presents pedagogical challenges related to abstraction, generational gaps, and cultural disconnection. Using the PRISMA framework, 94 Scopus-indexed publications were screened, resulting in 16 peer-reviewed articles for full analysis, focusing on trends, pedagogical strategies, and cultural dimensions of AR-based poetry learning. Findings indicate that AR enhances comprehension of symbolic language, fosters cultural empathy, and promotes multisensory learning through interactive visualisations, while revitalising oral traditions by linking digital technologies with traditional narratives. However, challenges persist, including limited infrastructure, insufficient teacher readiness, and the lack of culturally adaptive AR content. These results suggest future research integrating adaptive technologies, cultural sensitivity, and ethical considerations. Developing affordable, locally relevant AR tools has the potential to transform folk poetry instruction, particularly in Indonesia’s Kurikulum Merdeka, by aligning cultural preservation with innovative pedagogy and 21st-century competencies.
