Abstract

The infant mortality rate in Indonesia is generally caused by the disease can be prevented by immunization (PD3I). In 2008 showed decreasing success rates of immunization. The complete success of immunization m Public Health Centers Sawit District Boyolali amounted 70-90%. This study aimed to identify factors that cause mothers to postpone the full immunization for children from birth through age 24 months. The study was non-analytic descriptive, using cross sectional method, the data used primary data obtained from questionnaires completed by respondents. Processed by descriptive statistics with proportion calculations and presented in tables and pie charts. Completed immunization showed number is 100% perfect. The timeliness of the implementation of immunization showed that the mother with right time just 30% while 70% delayed the immunization. The reasons of mother to delay immunization is because that their child had fever, coughing colds without fever, diarrhea, laziness mother to wait a long time, has other activity, and because the child exposed to DHF.

Abstract

The production of free radiacals (oxidants) that are not in balance with antioxidant activity can cause cell damage. The need for antioxidant is absolutely necessary not only endogenous but also exogenous. Yellow soybean is one ofthe plants that have antioxidant activity, which can reduce the effects of free radicals while vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant which is used. This study aims to determine antioxidant activity of water extract in the soybean seed yellow (Glycine max (L) Merill) compared the decreased content of vitamin E on malondialdehyde (MDA) in the rat (Rattus norvegicus) male induced by CCL4. This study is an experimental research laboratory with a pretest-posttest control group. 25 male rats (Rattus norvegicus) were divided into 5 treatment groups. Group I (positive control vitamin E), group II, III, and IV were given water extract of yellow soybean (Glycine max (L) Merill) with a concentration of 2.5%, respectively, 10%, and 40%. Group Vis a negative control distilled water. Treatment was given for 5 days. On 6th day, all groups treated with CCL4 0.2 ml/200 g 88. Antioxidant activity measured by the decrease in serum MDA levels before and after treatment. Statistical analysis using One Way ANOVA. In One Way Anova test p value = 0.196 (p> 0.05), which showed no significant difference (not significant) toward the mean decrease in rat blood serum MDA in all groups Water extract of yellow soybean (Glycine max (L) Merill) a difference between the antioxidant actiVity compared vitamm E as an antioxidant in white rats (Rattus novergicus) male Wistar strain which has been induced CCL4 but this difference was not statistically significantly.

Abstract

The aminoglycosides are the mainstay in the treatment of serious gram-negative systemic mfections. These are the broad spectrum antibiotics, and could be used for many infections of body systems. A disadvantage of theaminoglycosides is their association with nephrotoxicity, ototoxicity, and neurotoxicity, all are associated with elevated serum levels. This article is carried out to give informations about mechanisms of toxicities and their pathology, which is highlighted on aspects of biochemistry, functional, and structural.

Abstract

Melioidosis and scrub typhus are endemic diseases in Malaysia. However, unlike melioidosis, scrub typhus is more difficult to be diagnosed and in Malaysia its true disease burden is unknown. We report a case of severe melioidosis and scrub typhus co-infection in a patient living in a small village in Peninsular Malaysia whom presented with fever and headache. This case highlights the importance of considering scrub typhus as a diagnostic possibility in cases of acute undifferentiated febrile illness in rural areas such as that of in Peninsular Malaysia.

Abstract

Giant-cell tumour  (GCT) of the bone is a benign neoplasm which commonly occurs in the distal femur, proximal tibia, and distal radius. The proximal humerus is a relatively rare site of occurrence, with a prevalence rate of 4%. We report a case of a 40 years-old male with a recurrent GCT of the proximal humerus. Wide excision and hemiarthroplasty of the shoulder was performed. However, the tumour recurred. Asymptomatic metastasis to the right lower lobe of the lung was found on plain radiograph. We suggest that multiple surgeries would increase the risk of local recurrence of GCT that will lead to pulmonary metastasis.

Abstract

Background: The World Health Organization (WHO) has recommended using fixed dose combination (FDC) for tuberculosis treatments as it can improve patient compliance and prevent drug resistance. A combination of rifampicin and isoniazid can cause reductions in concentration of each drug because the rifampicin is labile and can not be mixed with all three other TB drugsObjective: This study is aimed to understand effects of the combination of both physical properties and dissolutions of rifampin. Methods: This laboratory study observed rifampicin tablets and combination tablets of rifampicin and isoniazid (2 FDC) by testing physical properties of the tablets and dissolution tests. Friability test was conducted by using friability tester, hardness test was by hardness tester, disintegration test was by disintegration tester and dissolution test was by dissolution tester type 1 (basket). Its data were analysed by Mann Whitney test. The data had value if p<0.05 with CI 95%.Results: This study found that each tablet of rifampicin and 2 FDC tablets respectively had averages of 0.25% and 0.14% of brittleness, 11.07 kg and 10.19 kg of hardness, 2 minutes 1 second and 10 minutes 9 seconds of disintegration time. Consequently, the generic rifampicin tablets were more fragile but harder and faster to crumble than the 2 FDC tablets, in which their mean values were DE45 92.03% and 93.94%. Based on statistical test of Mann Whitney on the rifampicin tablets and 2 FDC, there were no significant differences of hardness test result and mean DE45 0.076(p>0.05 ), while there were significant difference of fragile test result and disintegration time 0.015(p<0.05).Conclusion: The combination of rifampicin and isoniazid in tablet 2 Fixed Dose Combination (2 FDC) had no effects on the dissolution rates of rifampicin, but they had effects on some parameters of physical property test of the tablets.
