Abstract

This study discusses the concept of flexibility in Interior Design that can be applied to posyandu spaces to support the effectiveness and efficiency of providing temporary posyandu spaces. The purpose of this study is to propose more effective and efficient interior concept idea for the posyandu space, both in terms of time and effort, without compromising the function of the space itself. The implementation of routine posyandu activities has proven to have a good impact on the health status of children under five. In this case, the provision of space for posyandu activities needs to be continuously improved to improve health services in Indonesia. The research was conducted by qualitative approach with literature studies and case studies as the main sources of reference. The results of this study indicate that the posyandu space has several spatial characteristics, such as (1) independent and temporary, (2) multifunctional, (3) serving at least 5 (five) series of activities, and (4) requiring a storage area. To support these characteristics, this study carries the idea of flexibility in interior design that is collapsible/demountable and also movable. An example of this concept is also given to provide initial reference of flexibility in interior design that can be applied for posyandu.

Abstract

Noise is noise pollution that interferes with daily life. One source of noise comes from the flow of vehicle traffic. There are many office buildings and residential houses around the Gelora Samador intersection, Maumere City, it is necessary to conduct research to analyze the noise level of traffic flow. The method used in this study is to place a Sound Level Meter measuring instrument at several points around the Gelora Samador intersection, and from the measurement results it is analyzed to obtain the noise level of traffic flow. The results of this study indicate that the noise level that occurs exceeds the noise threshold standardized in KEP.48/MENLH/II/1996, so it is necessary to control efforts that can reduce the noise level that occurs, including the placement of vegetation, as well as the design of a sound barrier that can applied to the path itself.

Abstract

In recent years, climate change has become a global phenomenon faced all over the world. This situation potentially has a significant impact on the quality of the environment and the resident’s quality of life. Discussing the environmental quality cannot be separated from the settlement area, which is the place for people’s daily lives. The quality of a settlement area is one of the factors that determine the quality of human life. Especially after experiencing a pandemic period for more than 2 years, the need for a comfortable and healthy living environment is increasing. One of the environmental comfort levels can be observed from the quality of the microclimate. A good microclimate will play a role in maintaining the health of residents and also the quality of the environment to prevent climate change. This study aims to identify a correlation between the physical elements of settlement and the quality of microclimate. The study was conducted in two settlement areas, namely Baciro and Suryatmajan, located in the city of Yogyakarta. These two areas have different characteristics in terms of settlement patterns, which is one of the factors that influence the microclimate. The method used is direct observation and field measurement for the data related to the microclimate and physical elements in the settlement area. The results show that each physical element of the settlement will affect each other in terms of creating the quality of microclimate, so it cannot be relying on just one variable. This result can be used as an essential consideration to propose design strategies for a healthy, comfortable, and sustainable human settlement.

Abstract

Bogor, during the colonial period, had a traditional government center in the form of an alun-alun, known as Alun-Alun Empang. This study aims to explore the dynamics of the development of the alun-alun, including what factors are behind its appearance, how the process was formed, and what its functions were in the colonial era. The study used the historical method. The primary sources used were maps of De Haan (1798, 1821, and 1830), the city maps of Buitenzorg (1901, 1921, 1930, and 1946), and literature related to alun-alun. The results showed that in the pre-colonial period (VOC), the traditional government center of Kampung Baru in Sukahati still applied Javanese cosmology; this can be seen in the orientation of the regent's house and the pool (empang in Sundanese) that stretches north-south with an imaginary axis towards the sea at the top and towards Mount Salak in the south. After the planning of the capital city of Buitenzorg in the 19th century, the Dutch East Indies colonial government built a square-shaped alun-alun with macapat concept in front of the regent's house. In addition to its role as a symbol of colonial power and a place for people to gather, alun-alun also developed into a center of economic, cultural and religious activity due to the impact of Wijkenstelsel in 1835-1915.

Abstract

In the development of civilization, humans have become the core in urban spaces. Therefore, human encounters in urban space becomes inevitable. Simultaneously, inclusiveness has been and is still a parameter for the accomplishment of a good public spaces. This study aims to understand the spatial pattern of human encounters in urban spaces. Tebuireng’s Pesantren area and Gus Dur Tomb were then chosen as a case study due to their intense use by more than 1 million people which are divided into 3 main actors, namely santri, pilgrims and local residents. The approach used in this research is a qualitative approach, by conducting literature studies, field observations, interviews, documentation, mapping and drawing. The author finds collision or convergence phenomenon in the mixing of actors in the observed area. There are two major types of convergence that occur in the 6 major collision zones, namely single directional convergence and multi directional convergence. The convergence mechanism of each zone is then analyzed according to its type. The study found that convergence phenomenon produces swelling space as an area that holds mass overflow after the collision occurs.

Abstract

The development of coastal settlements in Indonesia are commonly less advanced rather than urban settlements. One of the cases is fisher settlements in Tambak Wedi village, Surabaya, where many problems occur such as poverty; the low quality of human resources; unmaintained sanitation; unoptimized utilization of natural resources; and so on. This research is aimed to assess the sustainability in development of the fisher village, and furthermore to propose some solutions. This research utilized descriptive, evaluative and development method involving the 3 aspects of Sustainability and the 17 points of SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) as indicators of assessment. Economic and environment aspects were emphasized more in the evaluation since the urgency of the issues. It was found out that fishing economy in the village is lack of supporting facilities to sustain the livelihood pattern. The coastal environment is full of trashes from local houses and urban wastes which are furthermore causing diseases and pandemic. The economy of local people which depends mainly on fishing activity should be supported by availability of local markets to simplify selling their products. The coastal environment surrounding the village should be neutralized from wastes by availability of trash bins spread out across the settlements area as well as the availability of the main disposal places. It also needs to educate the local people to maintain their own environment to promote their healthy condition. Meanwhile, social life in the village needs some recreative public space to sustain their social interaction.

Abstract

The Dutch heritage that can be found in Buru Regency is the former residence of the Dutch controller. This building has historical value for Buru Regency because it is estimated that it has been established since the early 20th century and is still used today as the Office of the Civil Service Police Unit. Reuse or adaptive re-use is intended to maintain the sustainability of the building, but in doing so there are conservation ethics that must be considered so that the preservation can run well. Therefore, this study was conducted with the aim of finding out whether or not the ethics of conservation in the former Dutch controller's residence were appropriate by conducting literature studies, observing local libraries and building locations directly, and conducting interviews with building users. The results of this study found that most of the conservation ethics in the former Dutch controller's residence were not met, although some had been fulfilled.

Abstract

Durian specialty restaurant is a restaurant that sells a variety of durians and souvenirs. One of the durian specialty restaurants is DuriAnd Bintaro. In the way of payment and order, the Quality Control stage is a unique part of this restaurant. This stage presents a pattern of behavior that is different from other restaurants. There is a special ‘talented’ restaurant staff at the Quality Control table to recommend the perfect durian to be purchased. In the other hand, this stage affects the rest of order and payment method. The Quality Control stage takes a lot of time which can result in customer buildup in the space, waiting for their turn to order. However, this stage is an important part because it will decide the quality of the durian that customers will eat. Qualitative research methods with literature studies, visits and interviews were carried out to analyze behaviors of all related actors. The study found that space that holds “stop & stare” activity during quality control stage in similar restaurant needs to consider the room size and interior layout to accommodate the situation.
