Abstract

The number of murder crimes is decreasing from year to year which can be caused by various things. The motive for murder can be categorized into 2, namely; (1) internal motives, namely motives related to the biological and psychological condition of the perpetrator, and (2) external motives, economic conditions (unable to return capital, unequal distribution of wealth), conflict, family disharmony, promiscuity, nightlife, infidelity, wrong parenting, taking advantage of circumstances to take advantage and make political decisions, the environment, technology, religion, spectacles, reading, culture, ideology, population density, unequal distribution of culture, neglect and educating children. This article aims to findout about the motives for murders that occurred during 2023. The theory used to analyze is legal sociology related to the factors that cause crime and the rationality that causes someone to carry out murder motives. The results of the research show that based on criminal reporting published on kompas.com in 2023, 21 murder cases showed that the perpetrators of the murder were 100% men with an age range of 14-57 years, while the victims were 48% women and 52% men with a range of aged between 12-57 years. The motive for murder was caused by 57% economic motives; 33% were caused by psychological motives and 10% were caused by shamanic motives. The categorized data shows that the motive for the murder committed by the victim in 2023 is not much different from the previous year, that economic factors were the most dominant cause of the murder. As with the course of criminal history, the most dominant cause is economic factors. The motive for murder is very complex, considering that economics as the main motive for murder means instrumental rationality as the main reason. This shows that crime is closely related to the economic conditions of society.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the cultural practice of Meuseuraya (mutual cooperation) in Desa Reuseb, Kecamatan Trienggadeng, Kabupaten Pidie Jaya, analyzing its evolution from a cornerstone of community engagement to its present-day decline amidst modernization and technological advancements. Employing qualitative research methods, this study collected data through interviews, observation, and documentation in Desa Reuseb. Informants, including local leaders and community members, were selected using purposive sampling. The data was then analyzed using qualitative descriptive techniques, focusing on the interactive model of analysis. Historically, Meuseuraya played a vital role in fostering community spirit and cooperation in agricultural and social activities within Desa Reuseb. It was integral to community bonding and supported various communal tasks, such as building infrastructure and farming. However, the study reveals a significant decline in the practice due to modernization, technological adoption in agriculture, and changing lifestyle preferences among the community. The fading practice of Meuseuraya represents a loss of cultural heritage and community spirit in the face of modern challenges. Despite these changes, the values underlying Meuseuraya remain crucial for fostering community solidarity and identity. This study concludes that revitalizing and adapting Meuseuraya to contemporary conditions could help preserve its cultural significance and enhance community resilience and sustainability. Future initiatives should focus on integrating traditional cooperation techniques with modern agricultural practices to maintain the relevance and benefits of Meuseuraya in current and future generations.

Abstract

This research aims: 1) to find out the rights of persons with disabilities are fulfilled in the Damri Bus and Trans Metro Deli Bus transportation services in Medan City; 2) to find out the constraints and barriers experienced by people with disabilities in accessing Damri Bus and Trans Metro Deli Bus transportation in the city. Research data was obtained using observation, interviews, documentation and focused group discussions. The results are as follows: Damri Bus and Trans Metro Deli Bus transportation is not yet disability friendly so that disability rights in public transportation services have not been fulfilled. A number of obstacles faced by people with disabilities include: narrow and high bus doors, damaged bus stops, sidewalks that are disjointed and do not lead to the bus stops, unavailability of braille letters, and unavailability of travel routes at each bus stop. And this is actually rooted in a policy-making paradigm that is not yet disability-friendly. However, in general, the Trans Metro Deli Bus service is still better and disabilities-friendly than the Damri Bus.

Abstract

This research article aims to analyze the cultural reproduction process that transformed the traditional art of Subang Regency, namely Sisingaan, into Singa Dangdut in the Lodaya Putra Group. It also aims to identify the factors that caused the cultural reproduction of this art. Sisingaan is a characteristic of Subang Regency that has undergone changes and evolved into a popular art form known as Singa Dangdut. For this research, a qualitative approach was used, which involved observation, interviews, and document studies. The data sources used were primary data obtained directly from the field and interviews, as well as secondary data in the form of documents obtained from the field. Data validity was tested using the triangulation method. The research findings show that the reproduction of Sisingaan into Singa Dangdut occurred through five aspects that underwent changes and innovations, including (a) the appearance of the lion puppet, (b) accompanying musical instruments, (c) choreography, (d) performance, and (e) costumes. The factors that caused this reproduction were both internal and external to the art group and society. The internal factors were the changing musical taste of the Lodaya Putra Group members from traditional songs to Dangdut music. This was because the current members of the Lodaya Putra Group are dominated by young people who tend to prefer popular music over traditional music. The external factors were the process of traditional cultural acculturation with modern culture and market demands.

Abstract

This research aims to describe the power of partonun in ulos which has often been maintained by Uli, partonun ulos from Rura Silindung village, Tarutung. This type of research is descriptive qualitative with a phenomenological approach and literature study. Data collection was used by means of observation, in-depth interviews, documentation techniques from photographs. The results of the research show that the power of partonun ulos in the Rura Silindung area can only be exercised by those who can weave. Partonun ulos must have knowledge in designing and this knowledge is determined collectively because ulos is a representation of togetherness and will meet its end if it is collided with the need to pursue material things alone. Although this brings paralysis during industrial development in determining the design. However, this design must be maintained because it is part of remembering the historical route, creating, and controlling the work, and also loyalty to the ideal of balance between the partonun community and the environment.

Abstract

The Mudik tradition in Indonesia, attracting millions of people annually, involves mass migration from urban areas to hometowns during major holidays. While traditionally a time for family reunions and cultural activities, Mudik is a complex phenomenon with profound implications for Indonesian society, especially among different ethnic groups. This study utilizes qualitative ethnography to explore the social and cultural impact of Mudik in Indonesia. Participants from diverse ethnic backgrounds, such as Javanese, Sundanese, Balinese, and Madurese, provide valuable insights. Findings show that Mudik preserves cultural traditions, strengthens family ties, and promotes group cohesion. However, modernization has led to changes in Mudik gatherings. Nonetheless, it remains a strong link connecting migrant workers with their families, positively influencing social ties and work performance. Additionally, Mudik contributes to the formation of social identity and cultural practices. Respondents' experiences highlight the diversity of Mudik traditions and the need for a nuanced understanding to address stereotypes within Indonesia's cultural landscape. This research sheds light on Mudik's significance for different ethnic groups in Indonesia.

And the implementation of a side job as a craftsman is a system of dividing work time between working in the fields and working as a craftsman.
