Abstract

AbstractThe students of SMK-Bhakti Luhur Malang hadlow achievement in English atspeaking ability. They didn’t have strong motivation in studying English, they were afraidto speak English. Therefore, a special method is needed to improve the students‘speaking ability. The research design of this study was a classroom action research. Thesubjects of the research were 30 students. This study was done in two cycles. Howeverbefore implementing these cycles, the researcher carried out preliminary study to findout the students’ problem in studying English.In this class action research aims to improve the teaching and learning processof English to measure their improvements in speaking ability, the researcher hasdetermined the criteria of success. And the student was said successful if student got aleast 70. The class percentage was said successful if 85% the students or more reachedthe passing grade. The researcher employed the collaborative classroom action researchdesign and the researcher was assisted by a collaborator teacher in conducting thestudy. The research was conducted in three main steps; Planning of action, observation,and reflection. The objective of this study is to improve the speaking ability in proceduretext live performance of the second grade at SMK – Bhakti Luhur Malang. This researchuse Classroom Action Research adapted from Stephan Kemmis and Robin Mc.Taggart(1992 in Arikuntoro 2002 ) in planning, action, observing, and reflecting on the datacollected from teaching and learning process and the students speaking presentationtest. The subjects of this students were 30 students the second grade. This research oftwo cycles because in the second cycle the criteria success achieved. Each of themconsisted of three meetings for teaching learning process. The data were collectedthrough : observation sheet and presentation test. In this research, the researcher usedkinds of procedure text live performanceThe finddings indicated that using procedure text live performance is one of thestrategy-improved students ability in speaking procedure text . After the researcherconducted the first and second cycle, it was shown that the result of the second cycleimproved. Only 5 of 30 students (15%) still received scores under the target 70. Theimprovement of the students score had met the criteria of success, because twenty fivestudents(85%) achieved the target score (70). Therefore, it is suggeted to Englishteachers and future researchers who want to improve the students English speakingability in procedure text live performance.it also makes the students more interested and active in teaching and learning process.Key Words: Increasing, Live performance, Speaking Skill.

Abstract

The purposes of this study, were to find out the perceptions of secondary school students toward the use of platforms in online learning and the most effective one during Covid-19 outbreak. Descriptive quantitative research design was used to collect the data. The subjects were one hundred and twenty-four students of Senior High School One Kraksaan. The data was gathered through a questionnaire, an interview, and documentation. Students have positive perspectives of the effective platform used in online learning during the Covid-19 outbreak, based on the current research. The majority of students agree that the platform used for online learning during the Covid-19 outbreak was beneficial.While, students’ perception on the most effective platform are, Google meet and zoom. They think that learning through a video is much more effective rather than just providing learning material through Google Classroom, for example if there is a learning material, they don’t understand they can ask their teacher immediately, besides that Google form and quizizz are considered as the most simple and practical one, Since, they do not need to use paper in taking exams. It also creates a new learning environment, ensuring that kids are not bored while doing the tasks provided by the platforms. Keyword: Students Perceptions’, Effective Platform, Online learning, Covid-19 outbreak.

Abstract

In the writing feedback process, pupils are more passive role to participating in the writing process. Furthermore, there is a dearth of debate on how social-cultural attitudes impact teacher feedback. Moreover, in Indonesia closes to the dimension of socio-cultural.The purpose of this research is to know the socio-cultural dimensions which were reflected on EFL learners that mediated by MLE and AT theory. The data are collected by interviewing two lecturers, students, and analyze writing draft of students in University level, exactly in English Department of University Islam of Malang. The data found that, by MLE and AT theory, teacher or lecturer should involve the role of students to be more active in the process of writing feedback in order to the mission in the writing task can be reached between students and lecturer. Additionally, the intervention to the school administration also made lecturer do that as the responsibility to give the scores as development ability of students to the next semester or in the future and play an active role in providing purposive, valuable, effective, and flexible feedback in writing process orientation classes, and also importance role of students in teacher-student dialogue mediation.

Think Pair Share is a cooperative eruditeness that may influence the students’ handwriting talent buttoned up thought union and distribution There in represent cognate the researcher tries to distinguish if or not the Think Pair Share Technique as a teaching handwriting displays a good resolution on students’ handwriting ableness of Mts Al-Khoirot Karangsuko. So this cognate is conducted to know the effectiveness of Think Pair Share in teaching handwriting in club to aid the pupils meliorate their handwriting talent and besides mightiness consecrate the donation for the teachers in designing the appropriate and effective commandment method dealing with the subject or material they learn.This cognate exploited observational search designing in the manakin of non-randomized with dissimilar treatment of behaviour towards of two dissimilar classes, as they were already unionised good in class. Abstract

AbstractThis research focused on students’ perception toward challenges and needed materials. The researcher used a descriptive qualitative research as design method because it was comparable to collect the data from students’ perception and gave interview to collect the data. The data was collected from the secondary school students of MA Mambaus Sholihin Suci Manyar Gresik which have been learned using online learning. The sample had been 10 students chosen through purposive sampling which snowball sampling approach. The students selected to be a representative sample of the population have met the criteria specified by researcher. The findings of the research showed that mostly the students gave good perception about online learning. They were improving their learning and got a new experience of the new media applied by teacher in online learning. On the other hand, some students gave perception that online learning has obstacles that bad network, the quality of mobile phone of the student itself and the capacity of the application used in online learning. It can be concluded that online learning to be an effective learning resource when supported by adequate infrastructure such as good networks. Then online learning can motivate students to improve their knowledge, skills and generate new experiences for students.Keywords: Students’ perception, Online Learning, Challenges and Needs.

Abstract

Duolingo is a great example of straightforward language application. Duolingo can help someone to develop his or her speaking skill in communication. By using Duolingo application as an efficient media to develop the speaking skills of students. The purpose of this study is to proof the effectiveness of using Duolingo in improving students’ speaking skills.This study is a kind of quasi-experimental which the population of this study was the tenth grade of Madrasah Aliyah Bilingual Batu. The samples are consist of 20 students from X IPS 2 as the experimental group and 20 students from X IPS 1 as the control group. The experimental group got the treatment by using the Duolingo application and the control group taught with conventional technique or textbook-based. The research instruments were the Questions and Answers test and rubric of speaking. The data of the resarch were analyzed by using a t-test. Based on the statistical calculation with the significance level of 0.05 (5%), it presented that t0= 2.881 is higher than tt = 1.672. The result of this study shows that the use of Duolingo is significant to improve students’ speaking skills at tenth-grade students in MA Bilingual Batu school year 2019/2020.

Abstract

This research is aimed to (1) explain what experiences of learning English speaking have been important to the participant; (2) to explain how the experiences construct the participant’s Speaking Skills in EFL context; and (3) to explain what can be learnt from the experiences of this learning English speaking. To conduct this research, the researcher use narrative inquiry, to understand the lived experience of an individual. A participant, named Karjo (pseudonym), participates in this research. He is willing to re-tell his lived experiences as studying at an English course institution in Pare, Kediri, East Java. To collect the data, the researcher uses semi structured (open-ended questions) interview. The data gathered, then, are analized through Clandinin and Huber (2010) way.The results show that, firstly, there are some of the participant’s experiences that are important in constructing his understanding about learning speaking strategies. The second, it is found that the participant used some strategies proposed by Oxford (1990) in learning speaking skills. The startegies include direct and indirect strategies. Direct strategies which are used by the participant are memory, cognitive and compensation strategies. Then, indirect strategies which he used are affective and social strategies. Key Words: language learning strategies, speaking, narrative inquiry

Abstract

In the Indonesian educational context, there was an obvious changes in the implementation of the teaching in learning process. In former context, teaching activities mostly took place in classroom synchronously between teacher and students. But now, during the time of COVID-19 pandemic, it changes to online learning. “In the education sector, this phenomenon certainly has as strong impact on how the learning process should be conducted. The quick solution is by utilizing online learning as what has been suggested by the Indonesian education authority” as stated (Widiastuti, Mantra, & Sukoco, 2020). This study explain the teachers’ strategies in teaching writing during 19 pandemic at IAIN Madura. There are many strategies that used by the teachers’ writing that: planning, drafting and editing.

Abstract

This study was aimed at examining the teaching speaking process at Attanwir Language Center. This study employed a qualitative method: a case study utilized to study a phenomenon in real life comprehensively, yet such an understanding entailed pivotal contextual conditions since they tremendously had relevancy to the phenomenon of study. The data were attained through observation, questionnaire, and interview. The data were subsequently analyzed to attain triangulation data. It was grounded on literature; it was not statistic. The results of this study indicated that in conveying the materials for the learners, Direct method was mostly utilized for the process of teaching speaking at The Attanwir Language Center (ALC). Besides, the materials were not really arduous since natural conversations were prioritized. Meanwhile, there were some hindrances that occurred during the teaching speaking. For instance, it was hard to arrange and attend a regular meeting between the learners and the teacher. Additionally, they frequently ran out of the conversation topics in the circle. The result also demonstrated  that most of the members coming to Attanwir Language Center (ALC) enjoyed  learning English and practicing their speaking skill due to the fact that they were given different method, flexible time, and distinctive environment.

Abstract

Given the fact that learning nowadays mainly employs the use of technology, many studies have attempted to document the effectiveness of the technology on language learning achievement. To continue the scholarship, the present study was designed to investigate EFL learners’ speaking achievement after learning using podcast. Data were collected through interviews and Liker’s scale questionnaire. The result of the data found was analysed by using SPSS Application. The results of the research showed that the students’ speaking performance after giving treatment was significantly improved. It was proved by the data of the students’ mean score post-test was higher than in pre-test (55.60 > 77.30). It indicates that the use of podcast can empower students in speaking skill. The analysis indicated that the significant value was higher than p-value (0.05>0.000), it means that the alternative hypothesis was accepted. Moreover, the students stated interested in learning speaking toward podcast. It was proved by the mean score of students’ interests was 55.40 and considered as moderately interested.
