Abstract

Contemporary learning theories offer valuable insights for enhancing Islamic education by emphasizing reflection, experience, and personal development. This study aims to systematically analyze and critically compare the learning theories of Robert Kegan, Jack Mezirow, and John Dewey, focusing on their conceptual foundations and practical implications for the development of Islamic education. This research employs a systematic literature review method by analyzing primary and secondary scholarly sources through content analysis, comparative analysis, and critical-reflective interpretation. Findings reveal that all three theories share a transformative orientation, emphasizing active learning, reflection, and holistic development encompassing cognitive, affective, social, and spiritual dimensions. Integrating these theories into Islamic education can enhance curriculum design, learning methods, prevent radicalism, and promote lifelong learning aligned with Islamic principles. The study concludes that contemporary learning theories provide a strong conceptual foundation for developing an Islamic education system that is reflective, adaptive, and relevant to modern societal challenges.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of Fraction Card Block Media in improving fourth-grade elementary students’ understanding of fraction operations. The research employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental method with a non-equivalent comparison-group design involving an experimental class and a control class. Data were analyzed using normality tests, homogeneity tests, and paired-sample t-tests. The results of the Kolmogorov–Smirnov and Shapiro–Wilk tests showed significance values greater than 0.05, indicating that the data were normally distributed. The homogeneity test also indicated homogeneous data with a significance value of 0.390 (>0.05). Furthermore, the paired-sample t-test results showed that the experimental class experienced a significant improvement in understanding fraction operations, with a significance value of 0.000 (<0.05), while the control class showed no significant improvement, with a significance value of 0.078 (>0.05). These findings indicate that Fraction Card Block Media is effective in enhancing students’ conceptual understanding of fraction operations. The use of concrete and visual learning media can help students better understand abstract mathematical concepts and support more effective learning processes.

Abstract

The transformation of education policy through Merdeka Belajar (Freedom to Learn) positions schools as adaptive learning ecosystems oriented toward sustainable quality. This study aims to examine teachers' perceptions of the principal's role as a driver of educational quality in the implementation of Merdeka Belajar and to identify supporting and inhibiting factors affecting this role. The study used a qualitative descriptive approach supported by simple quantitative data. The study subjects consisted of 17 teachers and one principal at an elementary school implementing Merdeka Belajar. Data were collected through a 4-point Likert-scale questionnaire and written interviews, then analyzed using mean scores, percentage of maximum scores, category interpretation, and thematic analysis. The quantitative results showed an overall mean score of 3.32 out of 4 (82.9%), indicating positive teacher perceptions. The highest score was obtained for professional development support (M = 3.51; 87.8%), followed by support for Merdeka Belajar implementation (M = 3.47; 86.8%), instructional leadership (M = 3.42; 85.5%), and school climate and culture (M = 3.28; 82.0%). However, collaboration among teachers (M = 3.18; 79.5%) and transparency of programs (M = 3.05; 76.3%) were comparatively lower, indicating areas that require strengthening. These findings emphasize that consistent learning-oriented leadership, supported by collaboration and transparent school governance, is essential for sustainable educational quality.

Abstract

The rapid advancement of digital technology has encouraged the implementation of technology-based education policies in Indonesia to enhance educational quality and equity. This study aims to analyze the implementation of these policies by examining infrastructure readiness, educators’ digital competence, and institutional policy support across different regional contexts. A mixed methods approach was employed, involving a survey of 600 teachers and school principals selected through stratified random sampling, complemented by interviews and focus group discussions with 25 key informants. Quantitative data were analyzed using exploratory factor analysis (EFA), structural equation modeling (SEM), and multilevel modeling, while qualitative data were analyzed thematically. The findings indicate significant disparities in technology readiness among regions. EFA identified infrastructure readiness, digital competence, and institutional support as the primary determinants of policy implementation. SEM results showed that infrastructure readiness had the strongest direct influence on implementation outcomes, while multilevel analysis revealed better performance among urban and senior high schools. Qualitative findings confirmed that limited connectivity, inadequate devices, and insufficient technical support remain major challenges, particularly in rural and 3T areas. The study concludes that successful implementation of technology-based education policies requires integrated investments in infrastructure, educator capacity development, and institutional support to promote equitable digital transformation in education.

Abstract

The increasing integration of smartphones into elementary education presents both opportunities and challenges for literacy development. While digital tools can enhance engagement, their effectiveness depends largely on structured implementation and adult mediation. This study aims to explore the role of parental support in smartphone-based reading instruction and its influence on students’ reading fluency, comprehension, and motivation. A qualitative case study was conducted in an elementary school involving three fifth-grade students, three parents, and three teachers who participated directly in the smartphone-assisted reading program. Data were collected through interviews, classroom observations, and document analysis, and were analyzed thematically. The findings indicate that smartphone-assisted reading, when guided by teachers and supported by parents, enhances students’ engagement and contributes to gradual improvement in reading fluency. However, challenges such as distraction, screen fatigue, technical limitations, and inconsistent parental supervision were also identified. The study concludes that smartphones function effectively as complementary literacy tools when embedded within structured instructional design and collaborative home–school practices. Sustainable implementation requires balanced screen management, pedagogical planning, and strengthened parental involvement to ensure meaningful literacy development.

Abstract

Islamic Religious Education (PAI) learning in vocational schools is often cognitively oriented, thus failing to fully develop students' moral awareness. This study aims to analyze the role of spiritual intelligence-based Islamic Religious Education (PAI) learning in enhancing students' moral awareness at SMK Negeri 1 Sorong City. The research employed a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews with teachers and students, and documentation. Data were then analyzed using data reduction, data presentation, and thematic conclusion drawing techniques. The results indicate that the integration of spiritual intelligence values into Islamic Religious Education (PAI) learning is achieved through reflection on meaning, value dialogue, habituation of worship, and teacher role models, thus encouraging the internalization of moral values more contextually in students' lives. Learning not only produces conceptual religious understanding but also fosters self-awareness, responsibility, and concrete religious behavior. These findings confirm that a spiritual intelligence-based approach contributes to transforming Islamic Religious Education (PAI) learning from merely transferring knowledge to developing students' moral character.

Abstract

The increasing use of the social media platform TikTok among elementary school students has triggered a shift in language use from standard Indonesian to slang, which has the potential to affect language proficiency and character development. This study aims to analyze the infiltration of slang through TikTok in character-based Indonesian language instruction at SD Negeri Jati 2. The study employs a descriptive qualitative approach with observation, interviews, and documentation involving students, teachers, and parents. The results indicate that TikTok significantly influences students’ language style, marked by increased use of slang and the adoption of vocabulary and expressions from social media. Some examples of evolving slang terms include hits, worth it, bestie, gas, auto, spill, relate, FYP, at least, and OOTD. To address this, teachers implemented the habit of using standard language, modeling proper language use, reprimands, and the integration of character values into the learning process. Thus, the infiltration of slang can be controlled through the strengthening of character education and the cultivation of proper and correct Indonesian language use with the support of teachers and parents. This study makes  important contribution and provides more specific analysis of elementary school students and their integration with character-building efforts.
