Abstract

This study investigates teachers' strategies for applying the EWA application in the classroom. Using qualitative methods, data were collected from teachers through observation, interviews, and documentation. The documentation consisted of materials from teachers who used the EWA application, while structured interviews provided detailed insights into their experiences teaching English vocabulary with the app. The results highlight two main strategies: Cooperative Learning and the Clustering Method. In Cooperative Learning, students share and exchange vocabulary, promoting peer-to-peer learning. The Clustering Method involves using pictures to prompt students to identify related vocabulary, enhancing visual learning. Both strategies actively engage students and make learning enjoyable due to the EWA app's interactive and visually appealing features. However, internet connectivity issues pose challenges. Teachers utilize LCD projectors and computer labs to overcome these, ensuring that lessons proceed smoothly. This study concludes that using Cooperative Learning and the Clustering Method with the EWA application can significantly enhance student participation and enjoyment in learning English vocabulary.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the organoleptic and chemical characteristics of sweet bread substituted with seaweed flour (Eucheuma cottonii) and taro flour (Colocasia esculenta L. Schott). The research used four treatments with different ratios of seaweed flour to taro flour, namely P1 (0%:100%), P2 (30%:70%), P3 (35%:65%), and P4 (40%:60%), each with two replications. The parameters tested included fat content, protein content, moisture content, ash content, and organoleptic tests using the hedonic method. The study was designed using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD). Chemical data were analyzed using ANOVA and further tested with Duncan's test, while organoleptic data were analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis test. The results showed that the P4 treatment (40% seaweed flour: 60% taro flour) provided the best results in organoleptic tests. The Kruskal-Wallis test results indicated that the different proportions of seaweed flour and taro flour significantly affected the appearance, aroma, color, texture, and taste of the resulting sweet bread. The chemical characteristics of the sweet bread in the best treatment (P4) were 2.58% fat content, 8.69% protein content, 27.07% moisture content, and 1.75% ash content. This research indicates that the substitution of seaweed flour and taro flour can produce sweet bread with good sensory quality and a chemical composition that is potential for food product diversification.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate how students in the English Language Education Study Program (ELESP) adopt their reading activities to stimulate improvement in writing English texts. This qualitative descriptive study focuses on participants from the Class of 2020. Data collection methods include pre-interviews, interviews, and analysis of students' writing samples. The data is subsequently analyzed using a qualitative descriptive approach. The results indicate that students' experiences significantly influence their writing skills. A lack of experience often results in lower motivation to write, which in turn leads to poorer writing performance and lower scores. Although students recognize the importance of reading for enhancing writing skills, their reading abilities alone do not necessarily translate into improved writing proficiency. The findings suggest that while engaging in reading activities can help students overcome some writing difficulties, it does not have a substantial impact on overall writing improvement. This underscores the need for more comprehensive approaches that integrate reading with other skill-enhancing activities to better support students' writing development. Further research could explore additional factors that contribute to writing proficiency and develop strategies to more effectively bridge the gap between reading and writing skills.

Abstract

This research analyzes the impact of the amendments to the 1945 Constitution on the check and balance system in Indonesia. The constitutional amendments were made to adjust and strengthen the country’s legal framework, enhance democracy, and improve government accountability and transparency. This study uses a doctrinal juridical approach, focusing on the analysis of legal norms contained in the 1945 Constitution and relevant legal literature. The research methodology involves the exploration and analysis of primary and secondary legal literature, normative analysis, legal interpretation, and a combination of analyses to produce comprehensive conclusions. The results show that the amendments to the 1945 Constitution successfully strengthened the check and balance system through significant changes in the distribution of power and relationships between state institutions. The People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) experienced a power reduction, while the House of Representatives (DPR) gained a central role in legislation. The establishment of the Regional Representative Council (DPD) strengthened regional representation. Additionally, the President and Vice President are elected directly by the people with term limits to prevent the concentration of power. The Supreme Court (MA) and the Constitutional Court (MK) were strengthened to maintain judicial independence and uphold law and justice. This research identifies challenges in the implementation of the amendments, including structural and cultural barriers. Recommendations include enhancing political education, strengthening legal institutions, and improving coordination between state institutions. With these amendments, it is hoped that the Indonesian government will become more stable, effective, and efficient in achieving the nation’s goals. The amendments to the 1945 Constitution reflect a commitment to establishing a more democratic and just government with a stronger and more accountable check and balance system.

Abstract

This research analyzes the role of mass media in the democratization process in Indonesia after the fall of the New Order in 1998. Using a literature study method, this research evaluates the role of mass media in disseminating information, facilitating public dialogue, and strengthening government accountability. Political reforms have allowed the media to report important issues more freely, contributing to government transparency and accountability. The mass media also serves as a platform for public discussion, helping the public understand national issues and become more critical voters. However, the mass media faces significant challenges, including intense competition among media channels, dependence on political and economic interests, and the risk of information manipulation. The research results show that despite these challenges, the mass media remains a vital element in promoting democratization in Indonesia by increasing public participation and political transparency. Steps to strengthen media integrity and professionalism, as well as media education for the public, are essential to ensure that the mass media can continue to play a role as a pillar of a healthy and sustainable democracy.

Abstract

This research explores the impact of implementing the Jigsaw technique as a cooperative learning strategy on the reading comprehension skills of 10th-grade students studying English as a Foreign Language (EFL) at SMA Negeri 1 Botumoito. The study specifically focuses on students' understanding of report texts, including their ability to identify main ideas, details, vocabulary, references, and inferences. The Jigsaw technique was chosen due to its potential to enhance cooperative learning and engagement among students. The study involved a sample of 60 students over eight weeks. Data were collected through pre-test and post-test assessments, and the results were analyzed using paired samples t-tests. The analysis indicated a statistically significant improvement in students' reading comprehension, with mean pretest scores of 45.55 rising to posttest scores of 74.00. The t-test results (t = 0.000, p < 0.05) confirmed the hypothesis that the Jigsaw technique positively influences reading comprehension skills. Despite some challenges, such as time constraints and dynamics between academically strong and weak students, the research interventions facilitated a positive learning environment and stimulated students' critical thinking and problem-solving skills. These findings suggest that the Jigsaw technique is an effective strategy for improving reading comprehension in EFL contexts. The study recommends further research to explore the long-term impacts and adaptations of the Jigsaw technique in diverse educational settings.

Abstract

This research aimed to investigate the frequency and reasons for using fillers during proposal seminar presentations among students in the English Department. The study involved five students who took the proposal seminar exam on March 18, 2022. Using a mixed-method approach, data were collected and analyzed to identify the types and frequency of fillers used, as well as the underlying reasons for their use. The findings revealed that the frequency of unlexicalized fillers was higher (172 occurrences, average 74.78) compared to lexicalized fillers (31 occurrences, average 13.48). The main reasons for using fillers included nervousness, forgetting what to say, reflexive habits, and difficulty finding the right words. These results highlight the need for students to improve their speaking skills and practice more to minimize the use of fillers during presentations. Additionally, it is suggested that lecturers focus on reducing the use of fillers in speaking classes to enhance students' performance and confidence in public speaking. This research provides valuable insights for educators in developing more effective teaching strategies to improve students' oral communication skills.
