Abstract

This article aims to analyze the circle of “othering” in Poso and how to cope with it. To investigate this, by conducting library research and participatory observation, I look back at the history of evangelism, which was introduced by NZG, and the conflict events that occurred in 1998-2007. By only limiting the study to Christian communities living in two villages I found that these two events were the key moments of how the “seeds” to “othering” people grew in some Christian societies. In addition, the approach to peace which only focuses on direct violence, still leaves trauma and structural violence from generation to generation, which in turn also creates suspicion among religious communities. In the end, through my observations of several events and social interactions that occur “naturally” in society, I propose the idea of building sustainable peace that has been practiced by several community groups in the present, through encounters with others, and building peace through the table fellowship.

Abstract

Violence always creates victims. In cases of domestic violence, as in this study, the victims are those who are considered inferior, namely women and children. Victims experience various forms of violence, such as physical, psychological, and social violence from their surroundings. Wounded and traumatic experiences become a kind of walled-in space, which for victims can protect them from experiences of violence, but at the same time unconsciously it becomes a prison that confines freedom and opportunities to achieve happiness and recovery in life. This research offers a theological perspective on forgiveness for the recovery of victims of domestic violence. Using qualitative research methods, data were collected and analyzed through field research, in-depth interviews, and literature analysis related to the theology of forgiveness in the Christian tradition. This research came to the conclusion that violence always leaves wounds and trauma for its victims. The theology of forgiveness reconstructs closed spaces in traumatic experiences into open spaces to welcome the restoration of life for victims. From the perspective of Christian theology, the God who is trusted is a God who remembers, forgives, and delivers.

Abstract

The concepts of curses and blessings are discussed not only in the Bible but also in the lives of church members today. Congregation members in Nalahia (of the Protestant Church in the Moluccas), as a research locus, always associate the concept of curses and blessings with traditional practices and daily life. Pilgrims who carry out their customary obligations will be blessed, while those who are negligent will be cursed. This study aims to reconstruct contextual theology regarding the understanding of curses and blessings from church members. Using qualitative research methods, data were collected from interviews with congregation members and analyzed dialectically with various contextual theological literature. The results of this study indicate that members of the local congregation who are still influenced by multi-layered cultural traditions understand their relationship with God and their ancestors in layers. Expressions of faith in a cultural context open reflections on the meaning of God's creations in the reality of human life, including in cultural practices. Contextual theology does not fall from the sky but is always dialectical with the context that produces the theology, including the cultural context.

Abstract

Poverty was a crucial issue in the whole of human history, including in Old Testament times. One of the PL texts that shows this fact is Deuteronomy 15: 1-11. Deuteronomy 15: 1-11 contains the law of abolishing debts that must be carried out every seven years. This article then becomes the goal of conducting a search using the method of ideological interpretation. Based on his findings, it is known that the law of debt relief is an ideology that is sought as a counterpoint to the Deuteronomy source against the ideology of imposition which is the dominant mode of society's production. Through the idea of abolishing debt, the right to life of the poor is fought for. This understanding gave birth to an awareness of the importance of churching with the poor. All components are called upon to understand that GOD is on the side of the poor and then express it in the reality of life which is increasingly threatened.

Abstract

The purpose of the research is to analyze the causes and impacts of environmental problems that arise as a result of the operation of the Commanditaire Vennootschap (CV). Sumber Berkat Makmur in the Sabuai area and examines the advocacy role of the church and government. Through field research, it was found that environmental problems arose due to a lack of government oversight as the permit provider for CV. Source of Prosperous Blessings. There was an abuse of power in the process of companies entering to operate in the Sabuai customary forest in relation to social promises to the community. Environmental damage is also related to socio-cultural problems in society, increasing poverty, social injustice, and natural destruction. Communities as victims continue to struggle by carrying out protest actions, such as sasi adat, the ritual of protecting the forests, destructing company facilities, and demonstrating against the government. In this case, advocacy theology's role is not limited to spreading news from church pulpits, more than that, fighting with the people to get justice and advocating for environmental damage issues.

Abstract

The focus of this research is to link religious tolerance and apologetic attitude as two important poles for religious followers even though both of them stand in tension between confrontation and confirmation. By opening this space, access to convey Christian beliefs in the midst of religious diversity becomes more free and flexible. The result of this research is that the link between tolerance and apologetic attitude can be made possible by maintaining similarity, being open and respecting the intrinsic values of other religious beliefs. By doing this to fellow believers of other religions, Christianity will also receive the same respect in return.

Abstract

Revealing history is the essence of life that is based on human reality in the past by looking at how humans act, think, feel, and do things. The events that have occurred in the past, affect the psychological reality of society both individually and collectively towards the political, social, cultural, and economic dimensions. This article aims to measure the history of the people in the GPM Hatuhenu Congregation, Masohi Clasis who had to move to avoid conflict and find the right place to settle. The displacement that occurred due to the upheaval of the RMS in 1950, was against the propaganda carried out with the aim of maintaining Christianity. With a psycho-historical approach, the author finds theological meaning that in the midst of a history of destruction, and the threat of death, there is a work of God who suffers and liberates so that the people in the GPM Hatuhenu congregation escape the habit, and survive in the midst of challenges to build the future.

Abstract

This article analyzes the thoughts of Father Philokalia St. Maximus on Free Will. The purpose of this study is to explain the true meaning of free will. Because free will is God's gift in man which functions as human power to be responsible for everything he thinks, both to himself and to others. Therefore, through free will, man can do whatever God wants in his life. In this article, we use literature studies by examining the thoughts of St. Maximus, journals, and other books. Finally, this research produces a theological meaning regarding human free will that is in accordance with God's will, namely free will not to sin, but free will that brings humans closer to God.
