Abstract

Kaolin as a SiO2 Source for Ni/SiO2 Catalyst Syntheses: Characterization and Application of Catalyst for Hydrogenation Benzene to Cyclohexane. Kaolin one of clay minerals has been employed as a SiO2 source and produced a mixture of two type SiO2, quartz and quartz alpha, with the amount of 60 % of kaolin used. The SiO2 produced had been diverted to silica gel and used as supporting agent for Ni/SiO2 catalyst through impregnation of Ni(NO3)2 solution to form Ka and Kb catalysts, that having surface area smaller than the silica gel. The pore size and volume of Ka catalyst is bigger than Kb catalyst. Catalytic properties of Ni/SiO2 catalysts have been investigated for benzene hydrogenation and resulting Ka catalyst had produced more cyclohexane than Kb catalyst.

Abstract

Let G = (V,E) be a simple, connected and undirected graph with v vertices and e edges. An edge magic total labeling is a bijection f from V∪E to a set of integers {1,2,…,v+e} such that if xy is an edge of G then the weight of edge f(x)+f(y)+f(xy) = k, for some integer constant k. A super edge magic total labeling is an edge magic total labeling f which f(V) = {1, · · · , v}. In this paper we construct new super edge magic total labeling of special classes of unicyclic that we construct from a super edge magic total labeling of odd cycles. Our construction uses embedding process of odd cycles, which is labeled by edge magic total labeling to grid, and uses edge transformation to obtain interesting new classes of super edge magic total unicyclic graphs.

Abstract

Screening for glucosyltransferase gene (gtf) from exopolysaccahride producing lactic acid bacteria. Glucosyltransferase (GTF) is an enzyme involved in exopolysaccharide (EPS) polymer synthesis in microbes. One example of EPS that has been used in pharmaceutical and medical application is dextran. Dextran has been used in conjugated-drug delivery system as matrix. As a group of microbes producing EPS, lactic acid bacteria (LAB) have been well reported carrying sucrase genes glucosyltransferase (gtf), as well as fructosyltransferases (ftf). In an attempt to search for novel gtf genes as the aim of this study, LAB collection isolated from local sources yielded from previous study were screened performing PCR using degenerate primers DegFor and DegRev. An approximately 660 base pairs (bp) amplicons were obtained by using genomic DNAs of those LAB isolates as templates with conserved region of gtf genes catalytic domain as target. Two out of 20 LAB strains were yielded no amplicon as observed on agarose gel, while one strain exhibited non-specific amplicon DNA bands with sizes other than 660 bp. The two negative ones were isolated from soil obtained from dairy product waste field and from waste of soy sauce from previous study, while the latter was isolated from waste of soy sauce.

Abstract

Biodiversity of Cyanobacteria from several ponds/lakes of Jakarta-Depok-Bogor, Indonesia. Research about the exploration on Cyanobacteria diversity from several ponds/lakes of Jakarta-Depok-Bogor area was done. Five research locations were Sunter 2 Lake of North Jakarta, Babakan Pond of South Jakarta, Ulin-Salam dan Agathis Pond at UI Campus of Depok, dan Lido Lake of Bogor. Samples were taken by purposive sampling, and samples analysis using subsample methode. The sampling times were on August to September 2006. Three types of samples which were taken were planktonic samples, epifitic samples, and waters bank soil samples. The results showed that several toxic potential Cyanobacteria were found in several waters, even they were dominant at Sunter 2 Lake dan Agathis Pond (UI Campuss). Based on similarity levels of Cyanobacteria, the five of waters could be classied into 3 group, i.e. Sunter 2 Lake and Agathis Pond, Babakan dan Ulin-Salam Pond, dan Lido Lake. Lido Lake waters was very unique on distribution and diversity of Cyanobacteria. Based on diversity Index (H’) of Cyanobacteria, several waters condition could be catagories as moderate waters, i.e. Babakan, Situ Ulin-Salam, and Situ Agathis Pond. The epifitic and waters bank soil Cyanobacteria which were found were also found as planktonik species except Oscillatoria sp. 3. At least 26 isolate of Cyanobacteria were acquired such as Miicrocystis, Oscillatoria, Gloeocapsa, Merismopedia, Planktothrix, dan Arthrospira.

Abstract

This study investigates the use of multi variable Adaptive Neuro Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) in predicting daily rainfall using several surface weather parameters as predictors. The data used in this study comes from automatic weather station data collected in Timika airport from January until July 2005 with 15-minute time interval. We found out that relative humidity is the best predictor with a stable performance regardless of training data size and low RMSE amount especially in comparison to those from other predictors. Other predictors shows no consistent performances with different training data size. Performances of ANFIS reach a slightly above 0.6 in correlation values for daily rainfall data without any filtering for up to 100 data in a time series. The performance of ANFIS is sensitive to the magnitude and scale differences among predictors, thus suggesting introducing a transforming and scaling factor or functions. Application of multivariate ANFIS is relatively new in Indonesia. However, results presented here indicate some promises and possible roadmaps for improvements.

Abstract

Influence of Emulsion Polymerization Techniques to Particle Size of Copoly(styrene/butyl acrylate/methyl methacrylate). In the majority of applications, particle size and particle size distribution are highly significant factors that determine the properties of a polymer dispersion, such as its flow behavior or its stability. For example, a coating material with small particle size will give smooth coating result, good adhesive strength, good water resistance and latex stability. This article describes influence of various emulsion polymerization techniques to particle size of copoly(styrene/butyl acrylate/methyl methacrylate) with mix surfactant SDBS linear chain and nonyl fenol (EO10) and initiator ammonium persulphate. DSC data, solid content and IR spectrum showed that copoly(styrene/butyl acrylate/methyl methacrylate) was produced. Batch emulsion polymerization technique gave the highest particle size i.e. 615 nm and also the highest % conversion of monomer i.e. 97%. The more concentration of monomer was seeded to initial charge gave greater particle size and greater poly dispersity index.

Abstract

LD50 of Cinco (Cyclea barbata Miers.) Leaf on Mice. The acute toxicity of ethanol extract of Cyclea barbata Miers. (Cb) leaves has been carried out on mice. The extract was administered by oral route in 4 different doses, i.e. 300 mg/kg BW, 1500 mg/kg BW, 3000 mg/kg BW, 30000 mg/kg BW. The toxic effect of the extract were evaluated by observation of behaviour, spinal reflexes, central nervous system, urination, and defecation, and also number of dead animal. The observation period lasted for 14 days. The results showed that up to 30000 mg/kg BW, the test material did not cause any significant toxic effects. The LD50 of the cyclea barbata Miers. leaves on mice was found to be more than 30000 mg/kg BW

Abstract

This article presents a space-time scan statistic, useful for evaluating space-time cluster alarms, and illustrates the method to investigate a recent dengue mortality alarm in Indonesia. Space-time scan statistics account for multiple testing inherent in a cluster alarm. The baseline process may be any inhomogeneous Poisson process with intensity proportional to some known function. Confounders in a particular time can be adjusted for. Three cluster alarms of dengue mortality in Indonesia in 2005 were statistically significant. Space-time scan statistics are useful as screening tools for evaluating which cluster alarms merit further investigation and which clusters are probably chance occurrences.
