Abstract

We consider the correction of ground state energy of one-dimensional Gross-Pitaevskii equation by adding a gain-loss term as a time-dependent external potential. The interesting purpose of this term is that it can be used to explain the experimental results especially in the nonlinear fiber optics regarding the pulse propagation and collapse-revival of the condensate in the Bose-Einstein condensation. In the Bose-Einstein condensation itself, the function can represent that condensate can interact with the normal atomic cloud. Some analytical solutions have been obtained by choosing an ansatz solution of the wave function and its solution can be dark or bright soliton. Since the Gross-Pitaevskii equation can be treated as a macroscopic quantum oscillator, we can use time-dependent perturbation theory as in ordinary quantum mechanics to find the ground state energy correction if we assume other terms to be very small. In addition, time-dependent potential allows a transition from one energy level to others. In this case, we expand the solution of nonstationary one-dimensional wave function as a linear superposition of harmonic oscillator normalized eigen functions. To get the recursive formulas, we suggest an option to formulate the coefficients after inserting the initial condition which must be satisfied such as in quantum mechanics.

Abstract

This paper studies the effect of higher order derivative tensor in the Einstein field equations for vacuum condition on the planet perihelion precession. This tensor was initially proposed as the space-time curvature tensor by Deser and Tekin on discussions about the energy effects caused by this tensor. However, they include this tensor to Einstein field equations as a new model in general relativity theory. This is very interesting since there are some questions in cosmology and astrophysics that have no answers. Thus, they hoped this model could solve those problems by finding analytical or perturbative solution and interpreting it. In this case, the perturbative solution was used to find the Schwarzschild solution and it was also applied to consider the planetary motion in the solar gravitational field. Furthermore, it was proven that the tensor is divergence-free in order to keep the Einstein field equations remain valid.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to synthesis of Mg/Al hydrotalcite-like (Mg/Al HTlc) from brine water and its application as a methyl orange (MO) removal. The research initiated with the synthesis of Mg/Al HTlc from brine water, which is well known as the desalination process wastewater. Characterization of the Mg/Al HTlc synthesized was confirmed through X-ray Diffraction and FT-IR Spectroscopy. The determination of optimum acidity, adsorption rate, and energy and capacity adsorption were studied. The result showed that pH 4 was the optimum acidity for the adsorption of MO on Mg/Al HTlc. MO was adsorbed at pseudo-second order adsorption rate of 1.03 × 105 g mol-1 min-1 on the Mg/Al HTlc. The adsorption data fitted well into the linearly transformed Freundlich equation.

Abstract

The bacterial blight (BB) disease severity on two rice genotypes i.e.; BP 4110-2d-33 (backcross between Ciherang x Angke; containing Xa-4, xa-5) and BP 3688e-23 (sister lines derived from cingri/memberamo//widas///IRBB 8; containing xa-8) were lower compare with TN-1 (containing Xa-14). The total amino acid content in cultivar’s TN-1 was accounted for about one third to about a half of total amino acid than those of other rice genotypes where the total amino acid was ranging from 1.95% to 4.22%. In BP 3688e-23, and BP 3688e-22 genotypes more amino acid levels were decline although these advance lines showing xa-8 background. BB resistant gene carried by BP 4110-2d-33 and BP 3688e-23 were stable, whilst BP 3688e-22 was less effective to inhibit BB disease severity. Overall, amino acids were not found to be related to the level of BB resistance; where correlation between amino acid content and BB disease severity is not significant. The slower growth of Xoo on rice genotypes BP 4110-2d-33 and BP 3688e-23 may probably due to other than nutritional factors. The degree of resistance in rice genotypes infected by races of pathogen; as well as the resistance gene possessed by genotype BP 3688e-23 need to be further determined.

Abstract

Mathematical Model for Synthesis Reaction of Diacylglycerol by Irreversible Esterification Mechanism. Diacylglycerol, a component of natural oil has beneficial physiological function, mainly as oil with anti-obesity and anti fat accumulation effect. Several studies for efficient synthesis of diacylglycerol have been done by researchers in Japan. Esterification of fatty acid and glycerol using biocatalyst has been used as an effective synthesis process on it was industrial scale. A kinetics model for diacylglycerol synthesis was proposed, however, it was very specific so that not appropriate to be applied in different condition. In this study, a model for diacylglycerol synthesis by stepwise esterification of glycerol by fatty acid based on general assumption and condition is proposed. Runge-Kutta method is used in numerical calculation of substrate concentration. This model is useful for predicting behaviors of substrate at esterification of fatty acid and glycerol which is difficult to be measure experimentally, also as prediction in system design for diacylglycerol synthesis at different scale.

Distillation of Essential Oil from Surian Leaf (Toona sureni (Bl.) Merr.) as Repellent Cream for Protection Aedes aegypty L. Bites. Isolation of volatile oil of leaf surian (Toona sureni (Bl.) Merr.) have been done by distillation aqueous vapour method. Distillation result had the chocolate colored and stinging aroma, and rendement was 0.23%. GC-MS analysis shown of some compound of terpenoid (naftalen derivated) which correspondence to mass spectrum. One of them is copaene (C15H24), m/z = 204. Cream based of Rajin et al. formula giving stable cream, white coloured and neutral pH. Volatile oil of surian leaf in cream based cause color and aroma cream were changed. Cream stability also was annoyed at oil of atsiri 10%.

Abstract

In order to shorten the measurement time of biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), a BOD sensor based on yeast metabolism was developed. Local yeast, Indonesian Origin, Candida fukuyamaensis UICC Y-247, was used as a transducer. The yeast was immobilized as a thin film in agarose matrix with the auxiliary of Nafion® acting as the membrane for ion exchange process. The film was then attached to gold-modified glassy carbons and used as transducer on the working electrodes. The measurements were conducted by observing the depletion of glucose concentration using multipulse amperometric method and then converted to BOD values. Optimum condition was observed in a waiting measurement time of 30 min at an applied potential of 450 mV (vs. Ag/AgCl). Linearity was shown in glucose concentration range of 0.1–0.5 mM, which was equivalent to BOD concentration range of 10–50 mg/L. A detection limit of 1.13 mg/L BOD could be achieved. Good repeatability was shown by a relative standard deviation (RSD) of 2.7% (n = 15). However, decreasing current response of ~50% was found after 3 days. Comparing to the conventional BOD measurement, this BOD sensor can be used as an alternative method for BOD measurements.

Abstract

Secondary Metabolites Analysis of Methanol Extract of Surian (Toona sureni (Bl.) Merr) Leaf as Antioxidant Potential. The study of performed secondary metabolites from the methanol extract of Surian (Toona sureni (Bl.) Merr) leaves have been done by thin-layer chromatography (TLC) method. The result showed that methanol extract of Surian leaves consist of alkaloid, flavonoid, polyphenol and terpenoid. All of them positively have the ability to scavenge 2,2- diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH). It has IC50 (4.80) are smaller than the ascorbat acid standard (IC50 = 9.23).
