Abstract

In this study, the researchers analysed how the agricultural sub-sectors contribute to the Philippines' overall agricultural sector percent share of GDP. The study employed time series data from 1980 to 2020 and was collected using secondary sources. The researchers will examine the data using The Ordinary Least Square (OLS) multiple regression analysis, Multicollinearity, and Normality Test. This study considered Agriculture's Percent Share of GDP as the dependent variable and several agricultural sub-sectors, such as crops, livestock, poultry, and fisheries growth rate, as the independent variables. Providing opportunities for local farmers by efficiently allocating government funds and subsidizing their production costs, creating policies emphasizing reducing environmental pollution, and improving the institutional and governance structures in the agricultural sector. The regression analysis of the data tested by the researchers indicates a positive and significant contribution to agriculture’s percent share to GDP of the Philippines. However, the results of livestock and poultry contribution to agriculture’s GDP was poor unlike crops and fisheries. This study recommends that Government of the Philippines should focus on all the agricultural sub-sectors to increase their growth rate contribution to the agriculture’s percent share to GDP. Investing into modern technological advancements is also recommended to strengthen the country’s agricultural sector.

Abstract

The study examines the impact of excise tax (price factor), alcohol sales restrictions, media advertisements, and health warning labels (non-price factors) on the alcoholic consumption of millennials in Caloocan City, Philippines. The study identifies whether such factors imposed and used significantly reduce alcohol use among millennials. Previous empirical research shows that all factors have either increased or decreased alcohol use. Nevertheless, excessive consumption of alcohol leads to various negative externalities which cause harmful impacts on a household or a community. This research identifies if the price and non-price factors are effective approaches or strategies for controlling the consumption of alcoholic beverages. This study uses regression analysis through Ordinary Least Squares to analyze the data gathered through a survey. The findings of the study show that imposition of excise tax and placing health warning labels has a statistically significant effect on reducing alcohol use. Meanwhile, sales restrictions and media advertisement does not have a significant impact. Furthermore, researchers recommend that policymakers impose a higher excise tax rate and place health warning labels on alcohol containers to reduce its consumption and lessen its related harms among individuals and their surroundings.

Abstract

Farmers encounter difficulties gaining real profit due to the inequalities brought by the middlemen-centric agricultural system, depreciating their overall welfare. Middlemen are contributors to a lengthened supply chain; hence, profit margins absorbed by middlemen are higher compared to farmers. Production costs are also integral to production, with long-run growth associated with lowering production costs. Efficiency in labor productivity of the agricultural sector is attained through the improvement of systems, which in turn yields crop profitability for farmers. The purpose of this research was to analyze the influence of middlemen, production costs, and labor productivity on farmers' welfare in the agricultural sector of the Philippines since local studies are scarce concerning middlemen and farmers and also to provide additional information for the policymakers in terms of the decision-making process to identify the farmers' dilemma and develop a policy that would help improve farmers' welfare. The approach used in this research was quantitative. The study used a multiple regression model to determine the effects of exogenous variables on Farmers' Welfare. The researchers used farmers' wages as a proxy variable for farmers' welfare. The results showed that Marketing Margins depreciate Farmers' Welfare due to lower income received by the middlemen caused by the broader gap between the farm gate price and consumer price from the marketing channel. It is also found that production cost has a negative significance on farmers' welfare showing that there are inefficiencies in farmers' production such as technical and allocative inefficiencies. Lastly, Labor Productivity increases farmers' income by efficiently allocating resources such as human resources and using land plots instead of overspending on inputs.

Abstract

Academic performance has been linked to parental involvement and socioeconomic status. In today’s era, education is not a privilege but rather a right for every population around the world. This study examined the relationship between socioeconomic status and parental involvement in the academic performance of undergraduate college students. This research aims to answer the central question, does Socioeconomic status and Parental Involvement affect Student Academic Achievement? The importance of addressing this question is that economic and educational institutions may use the findings of this research as a guide for future economic and educational development. Some previous research has shown that socioeconomic status had little to no effect on student academic achievement, while parental involvement affected student academic achievement. This study used stratified random sampling wherein 14 out of 17 colleges in the comprehensive university participated. This study used an online survey with questions pertaining to monthly household income, a 16-item 4-point Likert scale pertaining to parental involvement, and the latest estimated general weighted average. Results show that socioeconomic status has no significant relationship with student academic performance, while parental involvement has a significant relationship with student academic performance. Parental involvement must also be given focus on student academic performance. Which furthermore indicates that various household income would affect students’ academic performance.

Abstract

The study aims to determine the relationship between the total growth rate of the service sector, gross value-added of the service sector, and total employment contribution in the service sector (independent variables) on the Philippines' GDP (dependent variable). Numerous studies show a relationship between the independent variable, Total Growth Rate, Employment Contribution and Gross Value Added of the Service Sector to the dependent variable, Gross Domestic Product of the Philippines. The researchers demonstrate the strong positive relationship between the total employment contribution and gross value added (GVA) of the service sector to the GDP of the Philippines as well as the weak positive relationship between the service sector economic growth rate using the Pearson Coefficient Correlation test. The group utilized available data from credible sources from the year 1990-2020.

Abstract

Responsible Production and Consumption have had considerable roles in sustainable development and how it affects economic growth for the countries. Moreover, inefficient consumption patterns of businesses lead to significantly large amounts of waste and excessive use of scarce natural resources. Meanwhile, irresponsible production may cause environmental degradation, resource shortages, and health risks. This article outlines the fundamental characteristics of sustainable consumption and production in achieving the Sustainable Development Agenda target of "Responsible consumption and production." Furthermore, this will present a comprehensive review of the literature on the Impacts of SDG 12 in promoting sustainable business practices, reducing food loss, and reducing environmental damage to preserve scarce natural resources. This research used a cross-sectional study coupled with simple linear regression and multiple regression analysis to measure the three indicators of SDG12 in Asian countries.
